Chapter 7 - Disguise

Others were based only on descriptions rather than actual magical theory.

Even so, Raphael's computational abilities allowed her to break them apart, study them, and attempt to reconstruct them.

Throughout the night, while Ash slept peacefully, Raphael continued her endless research.

By the time morning arrived, she had already begun laying the foundation for many future spells.

Next Day

Ash woke up with a yawn.

He stretched his small body before looking around the room.

"Raphael, tell me the good news," he said.

Raphael immediately responded.

'I already did, Master.'

A water mirror appeared in front of him.

Ash looked at his reflection and nodded in satisfaction.

His rainbow-colored hair was gone.

His rainbow-colored eyes had also disappeared.

In their place were ordinary black hair and black eyes.

Perfectly normal.

Exactly what he wanted.

'As I said, Master, these are merely cosmetic changes,' Raphael explained.

'They do not cripple or weaken your natural talents in any way.'

Ash nodded.

That was good enough for him.

As long as nobody could immediately identify him as some strange magical prodigy, he was happy.

'Okay. Myra said she will start teaching me magic when I'm five years old,' Ash said.

'Until then, let's focus on studying Spirit Magic.'

'Understood, Master.'

Ash leaned back and began organizing his thoughts.

Among the seven elements of magic, Spirit Magic was perhaps the most unique.

Unlike the other elements, Spirit Magic wasn't focused on controlling a natural force.

Instead, it revolved around imposing one's will upon mana itself.

In some ways, it was similar to psychic powers.

Or more accurately, mana domination.

A Spirit Mage infused mana with their own will and intent, allowing them to command it directly.

The stronger their willpower, the greater their control.

This made Spirit Magic extremely versatile.

It could be used to strengthen spells, interfere with enemy magic, manipulate objects, and perform countless other feats.

Most importantly, Spirit Magic was not something that required flashy spells or visible casting.

It was deeply connected to the mind.

Which made it the perfect field for Ash to study while waiting for Myra to formally teach him magic.

Not to mention that learning Spirit Magic could give him a greater advantage compared to other Awakened.

By infusing his spells with Spirit Magic, he could transform ordinary spells into their Spirit Magic equivalents.

Those versions were significantly stronger than normal spells.

After all, Spirit Magic wasn't merely additional mana.

It was willpower made manifest.

And in the world of Mogar, willpower was often the difference between an ordinary mage and an exceptional one.

With that in mind, Ash climbed out of bed.

The first thing he did was check on Myra.

The healer was already awake and preparing breakfast.

When she saw him, she smiled warmly.

"Good morning."

"Morning," Ash replied.

Myra didn't notice anything different.

His hair looked normal.

His eyes looked normal.

Nothing appeared unusual to her.

Satisfied, Raphael quietly informed him.

'The disguise remains stable, Master.'

Ash relaxed.

One less problem to worry about.

After breakfast, he spent the morning helping Myra around the clinic.

He fetched water.

Sorted herbs.

Cleaned tools.

And watched her heal patients whenever someone visited.

At first, Myra thought he was simply curious.

In reality, Ash was carefully observing everything.

Every spell.

Every movement of mana.

Every technique.

Even though he couldn't fully understand them yet, Raphael recorded everything.

Nothing escaped her analysis.

By the afternoon, Ash was sitting outside beneath a tree.

His eyes were closed.

To anyone watching, it looked like a child taking a nap.

In reality, he was practicing Spirit Magic.

Following Raphael's guidance, he slowly circulated mana through his body.

Then he attempted to imprint a tiny amount of his will onto it.

The process was far more difficult than he expected.

The mana resisted him.

Every time he thought he had succeeded, the mana slipped away from his control.

Still, Ash didn't get discouraged.

He simply continued trying.

Again.

And again.

And again.

Hours passed.

Then suddenly—

A tiny strand of mana paused.

For the briefest moment, it obeyed his command.

Ash's eyes snapped open.

"It worked."

A smile appeared on his face.

The effect had lasted less than a second.

It was almost insignificant.

Yet it was still proof.

Proof that he could use Spirit Magic.

'Congratulations, Master,' Raphael said.

'You have taken your first step.'

Ash nodded.

It was a very small step.

But every powerful mage had started somewhere.

And unlike most children his age, he wasn't planning to wait until he was five years old to begin his training.

He had Raphael.

He had knowledge from another world.

And most importantly, he had to grow stronger for his other body as well.

The faster he grew here, the safer his Marvel body would become.

The thought alone was enough motivation for him to keep training.

And so, time passed.

Days became weeks.

Weeks became months.

Months became years.

Before he knew it, three years had passed.

Ash was now five years old.

The once fragile child had grown into a healthy and handsome boy.

Thanks to constant training and his active mana core, he was far healthier than most children his age.

His black hair and black eyes remained perfectly normal thanks to Raphael's disguise.

Meanwhile, his mastery over Spirit Magic had improved steadily.

Though he was still far from powerful, he had built an extremely solid foundation.

Today was an important day.

His first official magic lesson.

Ash sat at the wooden table inside the clinic while Myra sat across from him.

The healer mage smiled warmly.

"You're finally old enough."

Ash nodded.

For years, he had been waiting for this.

Before starting, Myra spent nearly an hour teaching him basic magical history.

She explained the differences between commoners and mages.

The role of mages and the importance of mages in a society.

And the basics of magical education.

Ash already knew most of it thanks to Raphael and his knowledge of the novels.

Still, he listened to her intently as she continued to explain about the history of mages.
