Chapter 50 - Chapter 50 – The Return of the God of Thunder

Ethan Blake walked over to Thor, who was standing in the middle of the ruined street with his head tilted toward the sky, repeatedly shouting Heimdall's name.

"Thor," Ethan called out.

Hearing Ethan's voice, Thor turned around immediately.

"Prophet," he said, hope flashing in his eyes. "Do you have a way to contact Heimdall?"

Ethan almost sighed aloud.

Are we really still stuck on that problem?

Fine. If that's the case, he might as well keep the act going.

"I don't know how to contact Heimdall," Ethan said calmly.

Thor's hopeful expression instantly faded into disappointment. Before the mood could sink completely, Ethan continued speaking.

"But I do know a way to stop the Destroyer," he said slowly. "Thor, are you willing to try?"

Thor didn't hesitate for even a second.

"If there's a way, why are we wasting time?" he said urgently.

Ethan looked directly into his eyes.

"Even if the price is your life?"

Thor froze.

Before he could respond, Lady Sif reacted instantly. She stepped forward, placing herself protectively in front of Thor while raising her spear toward Ethan.

"What are you trying to do?" she demanded. "Thor is the future king of Asgard. He cannot die here. Forget whatever idea you're thinking about."

"Sif!"

Thor immediately stepped forward and pushed her aside.

Looking at Ethan with a steady gaze, he spoke slowly and firmly.

"If my life can stop the Destroyer, then you may take it."

"Thor, what are you saying?" Sif exclaimed.

"You're our future king," Fandral added anxiously. "You can't die in Midgard."

"Exactly," Hogun said.

Vorstagg even stepped forward angrily, raising his axe toward Ethan.

"Take back your method," he growled, "or I'll cut off your head first."

Thor quickly stopped him.

"Vorstagg, my friends," Thor said seriously. "Do not anger the Prophet."

He looked toward the battlefield where the Destroyer continued wreaking havoc.

"The Destroyer came to Midgard because of me," he continued. "This disaster is my responsibility. If sacrificing myself can stop it and save the lives of the people here, then I will do it."

Finally, he turned back to Ethan.

"What should I do?"

Ethan remained silent for a moment before speaking slowly.

"Thor, I told you before," he said. "You are the God of Thunder, not the God of Hammers."

"Mjolnir was never the source of your power," Ethan continued calmly. "The power of thunder and lightning has always existed inside you. When you truly need it—when you call for it with all your heart—it will answer you."

Thor frowned slightly as he listened.

He wasn't entirely sure he understood what Ethan meant. Still, he nodded seriously.

"I'll remember that, Prophet."

Ethan stared at him for a moment.

I asked if you understood, not if you'd remember.

Realizing further explanation would probably be pointless, Ethan stopped talking altogether.

Instead, a massive invisible force suddenly grabbed Thor.

Thor's body was lifted off the ground before he even realized what was happening.

Then Ethan hurled him directly toward the Destroyer.

Thor was completely stunned as he flew through the air.

Throwing me at the Destroyer… what kind of strategy is that?

As the enormous armored figure grew larger in his vision, Thor's survival instinct suddenly surged.

Divine power.

If only I still had my divine power.

Has the power of thunder really been inside me all along?

If that's true…

Then answer me!

In his mind, Thor roared desperately.

A faint spark of blue lightning flickered across his body.

Before anything else could happen—

Boom!

The Destroyer casually swung its arm.

Thor was struck instantly and sent flying across the street.

"Thor!"

The Warriors Three, Sif, and Jane all shouted at once as they ran toward where he had landed.

Vorstagg took two steps before suddenly stopping. He turned around and raised his axe at Ethan again, fury burning in his eyes.

"If Thor dies," he growled, "I swear I'll chop your head off with this axe."

Ethan frowned slightly.

A surge of telekinetic power erupted from him.

The axe in Vorstagg's hands twisted violently before collapsing into a compressed iron ball.

Vorstagg stared at the mangled weapon in stunned silence.

Ethan shrugged lightly.

"So," he said calmly, "what exactly were you planning to cut my head off with now?"

Vorstagg swallowed nervously. Although he glared at Ethan with resentment, he didn't dare say another word. Instead, he quickly turned and ran toward Thor.

Before any of them could reach him, the sky suddenly changed.

The previously clear sky darkened as thick storm clouds gathered rapidly overhead. Thunder rumbled across the heavens.

The Warriors Three and Sif stopped in their tracks, their faces lighting up with excitement.

No one understood the meaning of this phenomenon better than they did.

A massive bolt of lightning suddenly crashed down from the sky and struck Thor directly.

At the same time, a hammer flew through the air from far away and landed firmly in Thor's hand.

Lightning surrounded him like a raging storm.

His simple jacket and jeans vanished, replaced by shining armor and a flowing red cape.

Jane froze in place.

"Oh my God," she whispered in disbelief.

Her eyes were wide with shock.

Her boyfriend… was actually a god.

Thor swung his arm and hurled Mjolnir forward.

The hammer struck the Destroyer with overwhelming force, blasting the massive armor backward through the air.

At that moment, Tony Stark—whose armor was now battered and partially damaged—flew over beside Ethan.

"Ethan," Tony asked while staring at Thor in the distance. "Who exactly is that guy? He looks pretty powerful."

"Thor," Ethan replied simply.

"The Thor from Norse mythology?" Tony asked. "Or some version from Eastern mythology?"

Ethan rolled his eyes.

"In Eastern mythology they call him the God of Thunder."

Tony shrugged casually.

"Fair enough."

Meanwhile, Mjolnir returned to Thor's hand.

Thor spun the hammer before suddenly throwing it high into the sky.

The moment he released it, his body shot upward along with it.

Above him, the storm clouds thickened and formed a massive vortex.

Directly beneath the center of that vortex stood the Destroyer.

Thor descended from the sky like a bolt of lightning.

Mjolnir crashed down onto the Destroyer's head with the full force of thunder.

The impact shattered the armor's head completely.

Thor landed on the ground moments later, lightning still crackling faintly around him.

Afterward, he walked directly toward Ethan.

Then he respectfully bowed.

"I understand now, Prophet," Thor said.

Ethan blinked in confusion.

Understand what exactly?

Thor looked at him with the expression of someone who had figured out everything.

"When you threw me toward the Destroyer," Thor said confidently, "you must have already seen it in the river of time. Only by facing death could I awaken my true power again."

He lowered his head slightly.

"Forgive me, Prophet. When you threw me at the Destroyer, I doubted you. Now I apologize for my ignorance."

Thor's tone had grown even more respectful than before.

Ethan simply smiled calmly.

As long as you're happy.
