Amy was kept awake by anxiety for her son and the truth that had been revealed to her. Ray, in turn, was tormented by a nightmare that he knew would haunt him his entire life.
In addition to searching for similar crimes, Amy persistently sought ways to help her son. Hope was illusory, but she did not give up.
After Ray's discharge from the hospital, Amy and Ray moved into Rosie's house, which she had bequeathed to them. They had the option to rent or even buy housing, but Ray wanted to live precisely in the house where Lily had grown up.
A part of him was even glad that Violetta had been taken away. This was one of those rare instances when Ray didn't know what to say to a person.
Nevertheless, he firmly resolved to make sure the little one was being treated well. It was precisely for this that he hired a private detective.
The house turned out to be small — even tiny — and its facade looked shabby.
While cleaning up their new dwelling, Amy found a voice recorder. After listening to the recording for a bit, she smiled — and tears rolled down her cheeks.
Handing the recorder to her son, she said:
"Our little Lily left you a small gift."
When Ray played the recording, the tender voice of his beloved filled his ears:
"Hello, tiger cub. I know we've already decided everything, and I'll go off to study, but I really hate to leave you. I spent quite some time thinking about what to give you, and I decided to buy a good voice recorder and record books onto it."
"I know I'm nowhere near your level, but I tried very hard. And whatever happens in the future — I will always be by your side."
Hearing these words, Ray couldn't hold back his tears. He tried his utmost to be strong and not show fear, but in truth, he was very afraid of being left alone in complete silence. From that day on, he never parted with the voice recorder.
