Given that, this should have gone the same way it had with Kiana last time. As long as someone with even a modest foundation in the Path of Abundance came by, they should have been able to sense the rich, overflowing life force around her.

Why hadn't any mysterious uncles or suspicious aunties come up to strike up a conversation with her yet?

"I'm not a child."
"Alright, alright, you're not a child." His tone was the obvious kind adults used to humor kids. "Then could this big little friend tell me where her home is?"
Mebius fell silent.
Obviously, she couldn't say she was staying with Lingsha. If she did, this overenthusiastic Cloud Knight would probably insist on escorting her all the way back, and then how was she supposed to fish for prey?
"I'm waiting for someone," Mebius said, making up an excuse on the spot.
"Waiting for someone? Who?"
"My… older sister," Mebius lied without the slightest change in expression. "She went over there to buy something and told me to wait here."
She pointed off in a random direction.
The young Cloud Knight followed the direction of her finger, frowned slightly, and said, "That area is… the old abandoned secondhand market in Exalting Sanctum. What would your sister be buying there at this hour?"
Mebius: "..."
She had pointed at random. How had she somehow managed to point directly at the old market?
"Secondhand goods," Mebius said stiffly.
The expression on the young Cloud Knight's face turned even stranger.
He stood up, looked in that direction for a few moments, then lowered his head and said to her, "Little girl, wait here a moment. I'll go take a look and be right back."
"No need—"
But the young Cloud Knight had already strode off in that direction.
Mebius stared at his retreating back, not quite sure what to say.
Good grief—she had come out tonight to fish for prey, and instead of catching any, she had first gotten herself tailed by an overzealous Cloud Knight.
