Chapter 159 - Chapter 158: The Azure Dragon That Blotted Out the Sky

The moment Mebius pulled back her hood, all of Exalting Sanctum fell into silence.

Yunli, who was closest to her, was especially shaken.

Mebius's face—delicate, beautiful, and undeniably young—was fully exposed.

It was nothing like the short, mature older-sister type Yunli had imagined.

It felt more like… her age really was exactly what she looked like.

And what drew Yunli's gaze most of all was that pair of translucent blue-green dragon horns.

Though Yunli wasn't Vidyadhara, as someone born on an Xianzhou ship she naturally knew the most basic common sense regarding them.

Could this be the Luofu's Dragon High Elder? The legendary Healer Lady?

But that made no sense.

Wasn't the rumor that the Healer Lady had failed to fully inherit the power of a High Elder, and wasn't skilled in battle?

That didn't match at all with the sight of the girl in front of her crushing a Borisin with one hand.

Of course, Mebius had no idea what Yunli was thinking.

Originally, Jing Yuan and Lingsha had both specifically warned her never to remove her hood outside.

After all, those dragon horns were far too conspicuous.

On the Luofu, if you showed your dragon horns, you were basically exposing your identity on the spot.

As for what Jing Yuan and the others were worried about, Mebius understood that perfectly.

They were afraid the dragon elders might make trouble for her, or that they might try to trick and manipulate her.

As if.

Who were they underestimating?

They were only a bunch of dragon elders.

Did she, a max-level account, really need to fear a bunch of dragon elders? Did they seriously think she was some ordinary three-year-old dragon hatchling?

The current Vidyadhara on the Luofu didn't even possess one combatant at the Emanator level. What difference was there between them and worms?

Well, that was a joke.

There were differences even among Emanators.

Mebius acted immediately.

She raised one hand.

In an instant, an immense water-element aura spread across the entirety of Exalting Sanctum.

And that was only the beginning.

An azure dragon condensed out of the void.

Its scales shimmered with a deep blue glow, and its vast body was so enormous that it practically obscured the sky above Exalting Sanctum.

Everyone stared upward at that dragon.

It wasn't some flashy illusion. It was a real dragon, alive and solid, a presence so tangible that one could almost feel its breath.

And Mebius stood atop its head.

The dragon lowered its head slightly. Its vertical green pupils were the exact same shade as Mebius's.

It opened its mouth and exhaled a silent breath.

Where that breath passed, the True Stings instantly shriveled, as though all moisture had been sucked out of them. They fell from the sky one after another with sharp crackling sounds, like a storm of black hail.

In an instant, the situation on the battlefield reversed completely.

Of course, what delighted one side terrified the other.

The steppe wolves—those Borisin—reacted most violently of all when the True Stings began dropping dead en masse.

"That's a Dragon High Elder? How is that possible?!"

The Borisin's pupils constricted sharply, their dark red eyes reflecting the colossal dragon circling in the sky.

"Impossible!" the four-armed Borisin at their head shouted, his voice shaking visibly. "Which Xianzhou ship's High Elder is this? How is she here? The intelligence said nothing about this!"

"Damn it, were those old geezers lying to us?"

He never got to finish.

The azure dragon opened its mouth again, and a column of water shot out like a spear, piercing straight through his chest.

The four-armed Borisin lowered his head and stared at the gaping hole in his torso.

His bones and armor had been as flimsy as paper in the face of that water spear.

He didn't even have time to scream.

His body withered just like the True Stings had, collapsing into a dry corpse before it hit the ground.

"…Run! Run!"

No one knew which Borisin shouted it first.

But the moment the word was heard, the remaining Borisin broke and fled in all directions.

Some rushed toward the denser crowds, hoping to seize hostages. Others dove into crates that had not yet fully opened, trying to hide.

But the dragon circling above clearly had no intention of allowing that.

With one sweep of its tail, a curtain of water dropped like a heavenly barrier, sealing the entire square.

Several Borisin threw themselves at it, only to watch their armor melt away at visible speed. Screaming, they stumbled back.

"They're all trapped!" Yunli shouted excitedly, gripping her greatsword tighter. "Big Sis Dragon Lady is amazing!"

Mebius's lips lifted slightly, but she had no intention of stopping there.

She raised her right hand, spreading all five fingers.

The dragon responded at once.

It did not descend directly upon the Borisin. Instead, it circled once, its body glowing with a pale blue light.

The next second, innumerable droplets of water peeled away from its scales and floated in the air, like tens of thousands of tiny mirrors.

Each drop reflected the image of a Borisin below.

"What in the world is this—"

One Borisin's voice cut off abruptly.

The water droplets shot forward like a dense storm of bullets, pouring down on the Borisin below.

They punched neatly through them, each drop slipping into a gap or weak point, then detonating from within.

For a moment, the entire square was filled with a relentless series of explosions.

One Borisin after another toppled, their bodies bursting from the inside out like overinflated bags. Armor shattered, dark red fluid splashed everywhere.

Yukong landed atop a rooftop and stared at the spectacle below, momentarily at a loss for words.

Her bow was still in her hands. An arrow was still nocked.

Yet it had become obvious that she no longer had any reason to fire.

"So this is… the power of Yuanqiao's Dragon High Elder?" Yukong murmured.

She had already witnessed Mebius act once in the Seat of Divine Foresight, but she had never expected her to command water just as the Luofu's own High Elder did.

The five Vidyadhara lines each had their own elemental affinity.

Yukong had thought this Dragon High Elder from Yuanqiao merely knew some water techniques while also possessing something more unique.

Still, this was not the time to dwell on that.

Later, she would have to properly thank this little dragon elder.

But just then, a thunderous roar erupted from one corner of the square.

A Borisin far larger than the rest rose from the wreckage.

It was twice the size of the others, with six bony spines on its back and four arms each clutching a bone blade stained with blood.

"I don't care who you are!" it roared at the dragon above.

"I am Red Fang, third warlord of the Howling Steppe Bloodsong Clan! Even a Dragon High Elder won't stop my people's chance at revival!"

With that, he pulled a dark red crystal from his chest and crushed it.

The moment the crystal shattered, a dense aura of Abundance erupted from his body.

Red Fang's form swelled larger still, bones crackling and armor sprouting twisted crimson patterns, as though something alive were crawling beneath his skin.

"Oh?" Mebius raised an eyebrow. "So you're using a forbidden technique infused with Abundance."

She could tell that the crystal had sealed away a trace of Abundance's power.

It was far from Emanator level, but it was enough to make him a seriously dangerous pathstrider.

Just how many backup plans did these Borisin have?

In Mebius's memory, the reason these Borisin had successfully rescued Hoolay involved help from the dragon elders.

That meant the "old geezers" the one who died earlier had mentioned were likely those same dragon elders.

But now, these Borisin were bringing Abundance and Propagation into the mix too.

It really did look like they were trying to pull off something big.

"So what if you're a Dragon High Elder?" Red Fang roared again.

"In the old days, we Borisin dared clash head-on with the Hunt itself! And you, some Vidyadhara High Elder—"

He never finished.

Mebius had already appeared in front of him.

Seriously, this guy could talk.

Even ordinary Jingliu could handle the war chiefs of the Borisin. And they still dared boast about fighting Lan?

Honestly, even Scott probably wasn't this shameless.

Red Fang's pupils shrank to pinpoints. All four of his arms slashed at once with their bone blades, trying to block.

Mebius merely extended her right hand and pressed one finger lightly against the center of the crimson pattern on his chest.

"Abundance's power really is strong."

"But you should never have used it in front of me."

The instant she finished speaking, the crimson pattern on Red Fang's chest flared—

Then immediately dimmed, as though all its substance had been sucked out.

Red Fang felt his strength draining at terrifying speed.

It was like some invisible hand had reached into his body and was peeling away the power of Abundance bit by bit.

"Th-this… impossible!" he roared in terror. "How can you—?!"

"I understand Abundance better than you do," Mebius said, withdrawing her finger.

That was right. The technique she had just used belonged to Abundance.

Before Mebius came to the Luofu, she had specifically gone to see Cecilia.

Qiana and Jingliu could both leech a bit of Cecilia's blessing, so naturally Mebius could too.

Which meant that the current Mebius possessed not only blessings of Permanence, but no small amount of Abundance as well.

Red Fang tried to pursue her, only to discover that his body had already stopped obeying him.

The crimson patterns shattered completely.

His armor cracked like porcelain, and from the cracks leaked black liquid as dark as ink.

His body began to break apart.

Starting from his limbs, he slowly crumbled into dust.

The whole process lasted less than three seconds.

When it ended, nothing remained in place but a smear of black powder that the wind quickly scattered.

The remaining Borisin in the square lost all will to fight.

Some dropped to their knees and begged for mercy. Some tried to kill themselves. Others, driven insane, hurled themselves at the water barrier, only to be thrown back each time.

The azure dragon circled overhead, its cold eyes surveying the entire scene like a judge passing sentence.

"Lady Yukong," Mebius said, turning toward Yukong in the distance, "the rest is yours."

Yukong came back to herself and immediately nodded, turning to the nearby Cloud Knights. "Move in. Capture every last Borisin and haul them to prison. Not one escapes."

The Cloud Knights acted at once, moving to secure the battlefield.

The surrounding civilians were only now beginning to recover from their shock. Murmurs rose everywhere.

"A Dragon High Elder? But the Healer Lady doesn't look like that…"

"Could this be another High Elder visiting for the Wardance? But she looks even younger than the Healer Lady!"

"Who cares how young she looks? Did you not just see that? That was a living dragon!"

"By the way… where did Scott go?"

The crowd's eyes immediately began searching.

They soon found a trembling figure cowering beneath a collapsed market stall.

Scott was curled up under the wreckage, face deathly pale, lips quivering. He had clearly been scared half to death.

"I… I truly didn't know!" he cried, still refusing to accept reality. "Everyone, I, Scott, am an honest and peace-loving man! I truly didn't know there were Borisin hidden in my cargo! Heaven and earth can bear witness!"

A Cloud Knight strode over and dragged him bodily out from under the stall.

"Mr. Scott, you are under suspicion of smuggling contraband and assisting Borisin infiltration into the Luofu. Come with us."

This time Scott didn't even try to run.

He knew he was in the wrong. If the investigation made things clear, perhaps the IPC might still salvage him.

If he ran, then he would truly be finished.

Before long, Scott was escorted away from Exalting Sanctum by several Cloud Knights.

Yukong watched until he disappeared, then turned her gaze back to the small figure standing at the center of the square.

At that point, Mebius had already recalled her azure dragon.

It had to be said: now that her dragon aspect had fully revealed itself, Mebius truly did give off an effortless kind of majesty.

Of course, that impression held only so long as one ignored how absurdly short she was.

"Miss Mebius, thank you for stepping in today," Yukong said, walking over and offering sincere gratitude. "If you hadn't been here, the consequences for Exalting Sanctum would have been unimaginable."

Mebius merely waved a hand. "It was nothing. Just a casual favor."

"Besides, those Borisin were interfering with my shopping."

Yukong didn't say more.

Instead, a very practical thought suddenly occurred to her.

"By the way… Miss Mebius, why are you out alone today? Didn't Miss Lingsha come with you?"

Mebius paused.

What, was she being supervised too?

But her answer came smoothly, without the slightest sign of guilt.

"Bailu and Yanqing came over today," she said. "I went out to buy groceries."

"Groceries?" Yukong's brows rose slightly, her gaze dropping to Mebius's completely empty hands.

Mebius didn't blink. "I ran into this before I got to buy anything."

She said it so naturally, as though the battle just now had merely been a small detour while out shopping.

Yukong opened her mouth, wanting to say something, but in the end only sighed. "Then… do you still plan on continuing your walk? Shall I send someone with you?"

"No need," Mebius rejected at once, sounding faintly suspicious. "I'll walk by myself."

She had come to realize that these Xianzhou people all seemed to have overprotective tendencies.

Why else was everyone so eager to keep tabs on her?

Yukong hesitated, then finally nodded.

With this Dragon High Elder's power, she truly didn't need an escort. Let alone the Borisin from just now—even if ten times as many showed up, they still probably wouldn't survive one pass of that azure dragon.

"Then please stay safe, Miss Mebius," Yukong said, before turning away to handle the aftermath.

After all, with the Wardance approaching, the incident in Exalting Sanctum today would undoubtedly mean many more sleepless nights for her.

Soon, the Cloud Knights began counting Borisin corpses. The bodies pierced through by those water droplets had piled into a heap, dark red fluid pooling across the stone pavement and flowing through the gaps in the tiles.

The Sky-Faring Commission staff were inspecting the crates, writing down records while whispering among themselves. Every so often, they would glance toward Mebius with obvious awe in their eyes.

Mebius ignored those looks.

She pulled her hood back up, covering her dragon horns once more, and started walking out of the square.

"Big Sis Dragon Lady!"

A crisp voice called out from behind her.

Yunli came running after her, her greatsword now strapped to her back and a paper-wrapped bundle in her hands.

"Big Sis Dragon Lady, this is for you!"

She thrust the bundle at Mebius, her little face flushed from running.

Mebius took it, opened it, and found grilled bird skewers inside.

"I bought them at the pastry shop just now," Yunli explained. "I was originally going to bring them back to Grandpa."

"But you saved everyone just now, so take this as my thank-you gift!"

Mebius accepted without the slightest hesitation. "Thanks."

Seeing that, Yunli grew even more excited.

She had been completely captivated by Mebius's great azure dragon.

It was the first time in her life she'd become this fascinated by something other than swords.

Yunli had always believed in "overwhelming force solves everything." If she could also summon a great azure dragon… honestly, she hardly dared imagine it.

So she stepped forward again, staring at Mebius with naked admiration.

"Big Sis Dragon Lady, what's your name? I'm Yunli, from the Zhuming! How did you make that dragon just now? Can you teach me?"

Mebius bit into a skewer and chewed leisurely before finally glancing at Yunli.

"You can't learn it."

"Why not?" Yunli puffed out her cheeks indignantly. "I'm very smart! Grandpa says I'm a rare genius who only appears once in a hundred years on the Zhuming!"

"It has nothing to do with being smart." Mebius took another bite of meat. "Are you Vidyadhara?"

Yunli froze, then shook her head.

"There, then." Mebius said it as though the matter were self-evident. "This is an innate divine art that belongs to me as a Dragon High Elder. Why would a Xianzhou native like you be able to learn it?"

Yunli's expression visibly drooped.

But a moment later, she perked up again and leaned closer.

"Then… then, Big Sis Dragon Lady—can I take you as my master?"
