Chapter 39 - Retribution Pt.6

Solaris floated in the sky, his eyes locked onto a small demon eating another demon in armor, his fist having just crushed the crystal of the armored one.

His face betrayed his sense of terror, smiling as he watched the wretched creature devour an equally disgusting being.

Feeling a tension in his cheek, Solaris began descending slowly. He had decided to end the despicable creature.

Slowly, he approached the ground, the demon still hunched over, slurping down the remains of the armored one, making sure not to make a sound. Solaris continued to float just above the ground before willing the shards to form a blade and slicing down like a guillotine.

As the guillotine closed in on the creatures, would be neck, the winged abomination suddenly slid back like a worm.

The unnatural movement sent a shiver down Solaris's spine; his face momentarily stopped smiling, showing a look of disgust at the movement. The worm demon shot its arm upwards, and a bone halberd shot out; the tip of the blade was heading directly for Solaris's head.

Taking no time to think, Solaris moved his arm, grabbing the staff of the weapon, and forcibly moved it away. Simultaneously, his foot shot down, colliding with the head of the vile worm.

The force of the kick was not powerful enough to crush the head, yet it did hold the demon in place long enough to have the shards move. The glowing shards quickly moved into position and shot down this time much faster, reducing the chance of the demon moving away.

Slice

With the swift slice, the head was severed from the creature's body.

As he saw the head get severed, he quickly twisted the halberd, shattering it.

Then he moved down and pierced the torso of the worm; his hands passed through its tough skin like a hot knife through butter. Then he slid them out, and within his hands, two glowing red crystals shone. Without wasting time, he crushed them in his arms.

As the remains of the crystals fell to the floor, Solaris felt a strange sensation on his left arm. It was as if a thousand tiny bugs were biting his skin; it wasn't painful, only mildly irritating. Once it was done, Solaris rotated his arm to see the damage and saw something most interesting.

"HOLY SHIT!"

Looking around as he had accidentally shouted, Solaris shot up into the air and made his way to the turret he had.

As he landed on the floor of the Turret, he flipped his arm and began to observe the change.

On his arm, an intricate tattoo sprawled from his forearm to the back of his hand. It was light black, signifying it was not as powerful as his shards, yet it was still primarily a weapon. Calling it forth, Solaris felt something move from just beneath his heart. It was the same spot that his extramicy activated from.

The feeling quickly surged, and then an object made of copper appeared into solaris hand.

Looking the weapon over, it was an axe, an intricate axe with a broad head and a handle made of the same copper that the head was made of.

"How interesting, my second... first mark, and it's not bone."

From what Ember and Solaris had theorized, they had thought that the weapons of the demons, or rather the material that they were made of, correlated to the marks. Yet the halberd was made of bone, and the axe was made of copper.

Solaris scoured his memory for what Ember had said, in accordance with copper's ability.

"Ahh, that's right, poison."

Sending the axe back under his skin, Solaris made his way to the bench and pulled out a map he had made, and began to study it before making a few marks.

Solaris had been busy at work killing the demons for a few days now, his mind tired and so was his body, yet the task was still nowhere near easy. To make it worse, he had yet to find where Ember was being held captive, or if he still was.

The news of a human killing dozens of demons, in especially brutal ways, had begun to spread. Solaris had even heard two demons talking about it when he'd been making the map.

They had even given him a nickname, albeit not one Solaris was very fond of; they had called him the Eclipse.

He had listened as to why that was the name, and it was equally as dumb as the name itself. They had figured Solaris had heat-based abilities and knew he had hidden in the shadows to kill, so they called him the Eclipse.

Of course, none of them had ever seen Solaris, and if they did, they didn't survive, so giving him a nickname was completely useless.

Shaking his head at the thought of them finding the corpses of those two and then attributing it to a killer named "The Eclipse".

Looks like only.... three hundred left.

Solaris let out an exasperated sigh and stood up, beginning to stretch. He was growing more and more tired as the days passed, yet he had a goal to complete, and that goal involved killing six hundred demons.
