(MASON'S POV)
I read the note three times, my heart pounding in my chest.
"Ooh, someone's popular."
I jumped, nearly dropping the card as Jake appeared at my elbow, his eyes gleaming with mischief.
"What's that?" he asked, reaching for the card.
"It's nothing."
"It's clearly not nothing. Let me see."
Before I could stop him, Jake had snatched the card from my hands and was reading it aloud with theatrical flair.
"You are beautiful. You are strong. You are kind." Jake pressed a hand to his chest. "Oh my god, Mason. Blue has competition."
"It's not—it's probably just someone who wants to be a friend."
"A friend who leaves you roses and romantic notes in your locker?"
"It could be anyone."
"It could be a secret admirer," Jake said, wiggling his eyebrows. "Someone who's been watching you from the shadows, pining after you from afar, too shy to confess their undying love—"
"Jake."
"What? I'm just saying. Blue better watch his back."
