At this point, Sophie Sheridan saw no reason to hide anything. "Lia went to New York to find you, hoping to spend New Year's with you, but she found you in a hotel with Claire Donovan."
Ethan Sinclair frowned. "She never told me."
"Lia doesn't like to be a burden. Whatever your reason was for being with Claire Donovan, there was no way she was going to interfere."
Sophie paused, then couldn't help but demand, "She was by your side for so many years. Could you really not tell something was wrong with her back then?"
He had noticed.
That was why his own expression had soured. He had rushed down after her, but by the time he reached the ground floor, Lianne had already left the hotel.
When he called her, she said she was already in a car with a friend. That had put his mind at ease.
Ethan Sinclair's shoulders suddenly slumped. He leaned back in his chair, and though the restaurant's bright lights reflected in his eyes, they couldn't conceal the desolate emptiness within his gaze.
