Li Xiang also saw the "long-renowned" Ganges River. On its banks, he saw many monkeys and then witnessed a great battle between the monkeys and stray dogs.
The pack of stray dogs was not small, numbering at least fifty or sixty. Unfortunately, they were no match for the several hundred monkeys. Before long, the dogs fled in disarray, with the monkeys in hot pursuit.
The stray dogs fled into a small town, likely hoping for human help. But the monkeys showed no fear, charging directly into the town and pillaging everything in sight.
One monkey saw a woman holding an infant, rushed over, and snatched the baby away. It dragged the infant along the ground by its leg. The woman was frantic with rage and panic. Her husband hurried over, brandishing a club, and managed to snatch the baby back.
The infant was, of course, severely injured, and it was uncertain if it would survive. The monkey, meanwhile, was beaten bloody by the furious father and fled, screeching.
