The sun was still high in the sky, it was still around 4 p.m. The group still had plenty of time before the night would fall down.
As they kept going up, there were many different rooms all related to PCs with many other remains of servers. "I don't think that we can find anything good in this room else," murmured Darian, annoyed. There were at least 3 same rooms with huge servers, still they weren't able to find any new good important memory.
"Did they have only that? Was that type of memory that much rare even during your time?" asked Liro as he inspected a room together with him. Darian shook his head, "They were pretty common, maybe they have all been removed."
"Why would they do that?" said Liro, kneeling next to Darian who was checking a drawer. "I don't know," whispered Darian as he returned to his feet. "C'mon, let's go towards the next room," said Darian. Vane immediately answered, while Lily screamed, "I FOUND SOMETHINGGG!"
As Vane reached the others, everyone turned towards the scream made by Lily and immediately ran towards her, always paying enough attention to the holes in the ground.
"This is another letter about the white wing project!!" said Lily after noticing the others. She waved the paper towards her friends who walked closer to her. Lily gave the paper to Darian and he started to read it.
"The project keeps going… we decided to call it 'white wing project' because of the huge wings our lab rat has got. We have never seen anything like that, he doesn't seem dangerous, he entered in the tower without any problem. Soon we will begin the experiment, now that I think about it, he looks like an…" The letter after this got brutally ripped off. "Like what?" asked Vane, confused.
"Yeah like what? Were there stuff like this in your old world, Darian? I have never read anything about this before…" said Liro. At the end of the sentence he started to whisper to himself.
"No… what the hell is this??" said Darian, confused, as he kept reading, trying to find an explanation for that person that had white wings, but he couldn't think of anything.
"Let's go higher guys, the tower is still pretty high," said Lily as she led again the way towards other stairs. Everyone else nodded and followed her from behind.
"Darian, do you think that some papers have been lost because of the time? Like look at this, it's totally destroyed," said Liro as he took something from his pocket. It was a wire made of copper which was totally destroyed.
"It is impossible, we were able to create a really powerful paper, it is able to resist even for 1000 years. Probably most of them flew outside the tower…" said Darian, looking on his left. There was a huge hole in the wall; because of the wind, multiple stuff could have flown outside.
This floor was weird, at first it looked normal, but in many rooms there were multiple pipes, it looked like a sort of controlling room for them.
Darian got around to inspect one of them. It was half open and some water, which was there because of the rain, was flowing out of them.
"I think these were for controlling the level of the water in all the building, thanks to these pipes they would probably bring the water all around the building," said Darian as he looked at them. Vane next to him noticed something strange.
"Hey, what's this supposed to be?" said him as he got closer to a handle. Before it was of a bright red, now the color was darker. Vane tried to move it, but it wasn't moving. "Arghh… moveee!" shouted Vane, trying to move it as hard as he could.
Darian, moving his eyes from the pipe to Vane, noticed that his friend was moving it in the wrong direction. "You need to move it in the opposite direction," said Darian laughing softly. Vane looked annoyed at first, but then his expression changed the moment it could move.
"Woahhh!!" Vane moved it as fast as he could, and suddenly it wasn't going anymore. "Why isn't it goinggggg?" said Vane as he tried to move it again in the same direction as before.
Darian was about to tell Vane that he had to move it in the other direction, but Vane forced it too hard and the handle came off.
"Oh…" said Vane, looking at the handle in his hand. "Guess I broke it," said him towards Darian with a smile over his face. Darian sighed.
Liro was in another room, around him there were multiple sinks, some of them were completely ruined and didn't even have the handle, while the others had them, but the moment Liro moved it, there was only one left.
"Let's see if you work…" said Liro. The moment he moved the handle, literal green water started to flow from it. Liro was too amazed by the sight of the water that he didn't notice that he opened the handle too much and the water started to splash all around the sink; some of it even got on Liro's clothes.
The poor man, scared, screamed as much as he could before immediately closing again the handle. Darian and Vane, in the other room, immediately went to see what happened.
"Is everything alright, Liro?" asked Darian, breathing heavily. He ran towards the other room as fast as he could, only to find his friend only a bit wet.
"Yeah… also I shouldn't have opened it too much," Liro laughed softly while answering Darian.
Vane entered the room and started to search in the drawer right under the sinks. The moment he opened them, he was disgusted to hear the smell. In the drawer he opened, there was the residue of an old compound that smelled really bad.
"Eughh… what even is this," said Vane after immediately closing the drawer while his nose was crying of pain. "Don't open that… it's worse than a fart," said Vane while blocking his nose.
"It can't be that bad…" said Liro, opening again the drawer. The moment it opened, Liro closed it immediately again. "Y-yeah, it was badd," said Liro, shaking from the sudden smell. He felt he could throw up at any moment.
'I'm curious to see what was that… but I guess I will not make the same mistake,' thought Darian as he opened another drawer. This one didn't have any bad smell. Inside of it there were multiple laboratory glassware; in the drawer he opened, it was full of empty droppers.
"I guess they can be useful in my base…" whispered Darian before taking some of them into his hands. He first noticed that they were all empty, then put them into his backpack. The other drawers in the room had other laboratory glassware which were completely ruined and destroyed, so they couldn't be used anymore.
"Guysss I found another oneee!" said Lily, entering the room where the three guys were searching. All the drawers were opened except for the one with the bad smell.
"Ohh let's read it," said Darian as Lily gave the paper again to his friend, who read again the letter loud.
"The lab rat said that this is a power we shouldn't try to make ours. Now many of us think that the creature is right; it has shown us that he could burn down the glassware without any problem. It was really weird… a small fire was coming out his fingers, and it was enough to make the whole room extremely hot. I'm still sure about this project, I think that if we keep going with this experiment, we will be able to discover more new important stuff." This letter was the only one that hadn't been ripped apart. Lily was so proud of herself that what she found was still intact. The letter even had a date, which was: 14-08-2084.
"Ehi this one is the first with a date," said Vane, noticing the date right below the paper.
"This was almost before I went to XERBAB-7. I wonder for how much longer these experiments have been going," said Darian. "But like don't you think we're missing something? HELLO?! That man was literally using magic," shouted Liro.
"Oh… YOU'RE RIGHT, THE DATE COMPLETELY GOT ME," shouted Darian, realizing what he had just read.
"Darian… no one could use magic during your time right?" asked Lily, scared. Darian nodded, "No… are we even sure this letter is real?" Darian started to panic as he kept reading it again, just to check in case he misspelled something.
"Do you think this tower is somehow related to the magic we are able to use?" whispered Vane. Everyone seemed scared.
"But like c'mon, we can't stop now, there is still so much we have to discover no?" said Lily, trying to get the morale a bit higher, but it was harder.
"Yeah… but still, it feels hard to understand," said Darian, sitting down on the floor by putting a hand on his forehead.
"It feels like we are discovering things that had to remain hidden," said Liro, sitting next to Darian. Liro and Darian were feeling scared, while Vane and Lily felt different.
"But like we came here to investigate right? Shouldn't we continue?" asked Vane, trying to lead the way towards the stairs he noticed before, but the moment he noticed the others weren't following him, he immediately returned back.
"We came here to discover the truth about that stupid mayor and now…" said Darian as his whole body started to shake. Snowy, feeling the tremble of his owner, slowly licked his face. Darian turned his face towards him.
"Snowy…" said Darian, looking directly into the small fox's eyes. He had the same usual expression.
"Maybe you're right… we can't be this much scared right?" said Darian, trying to get on his feet again. His legs were still shaking.
Liro looked at his friend next to him who was able to get up. "Are you sure about this, Darian?" asked Liro. Darian's legs slowly stopped shaking.
"The moment I returned to the planet I wanted to discover everything that had happened… it felt a bit sudden but…" said Darian as his whole body stopped shaking.
"But they're right, we can't stop here, we are the ones who are able to discover the truth, it is our duty Liro," said Darian as he opened his hand towards Liro, who still looked a bit sad.
'I never asked for this duty,' thought him before grabbing Darian's hand again. The two of them were now ready again to keep exploring the tower.
"Let's keep searching about this white project experiment guys, we can't stop now," said Vane. Everyone agreed with him. He led the way towards the stairs while everyone followed him from behind.
