"Come back, Charmeleon!"
Ash helplessly took out a Poké Ball and recalled Charmeleon. Seeing this, Pikachu walked over to Ash's feet, trying to comfort him and tell him not to be too upset.
But Pikachu seemed to have misunderstood Ash. Ash wasn't surprised at Charmeleon's defeat at all—he was already used to it and obediently waited for Red's criticism.
"Ash, Charmeleon has excellent talent. You must focus on nurturing it. Before its body fully matures, you must prevent it from forcefully evolving. Forcing evolution will only damage its battle potential. You have to pay close attention to this," Red advised, not wanting Charmeleon to bury its talent.
"Don't worry, brother, I'll pay attention," Ash promised.
After the battle ended, many of the observing trainers rushed over, ignoring Officer Jenny's attempts to stop them, all wanting to witness what kind of trainer could command a Charizard.
To avoid exposing his identity as much as possible, after advising Ash, Red turned and used Teleport to leave the area with Ash, leaving behind Team Rocket's trio who had been knocked unconscious by Pikachu.
The Team Rocket trio had just regained consciousness and hadn't even reacted yet before being questioned by the crowd of trainers. Coincidentally, they ended up covering for Red.
After repeated questioning, the crowd saw the trio's foolish expressions and realized they were not the powerful trainer they were looking for, then left in disappointment.
When the trio spotted Officer Jenny approaching, they hurriedly fled, leaving the trainers staring at each other in confusion.
(Red, your Charizard is getting stronger and stronger...)
As Red's childhood friend and rival, Gary naturally recognized that it was Red's Charizard. After witnessing its power, Gary turned and left hurriedly with his group of cheerleaders, planning to find a suitable place to train with his Pokémon.
(Red, I look forward to defeating you at the Indigo Plateau Conference!)
...
" Ash! Red! Thank goodness you're both safe!"
After teleporting elsewhere, the two brothers had just landed when Misty and Brock ran up to them in concern.
"Ash, this is a Pokémon Egg I 'accidentally' found underground."
Red took out a Pokémon Egg from his backpack. The egg had red and blue triangular ring patterns—it was clearly Togepi's Egg.
(Originally, Togepi appeared early mainly to cover up Misty's exposed midriff, since too many parents had complained about her outfit.)
"A Pokémon Egg! Please, you must let me take care of it!" Brock said excitedly, taking the egg from Red. Caring for Pokémon Eggs was one of Brock's specialties as a breeder.
"Hey, Brock, that's the egg my brother is giving me!" Ash complained.
"Ash is too careless—he'll definitely drop and break it. It's better if Brock and I take care of it!" Misty laughed.
In the end, the Great Canyon was sealed off by League staff who arrived later, and all excavation by outsiders was strictly prohibited.
"Red, how is it that every time something big happens, you're at the scene?"
The ever-busy Lance looked at Red helplessly.
"I should be asking you—why is it always you among the Elite Four who shows up?" Red replied speechlessly. Couldn't they send someone new for once?
"What can I do? My Pokémon have the fastest support speed among the Elite Four," Lance explained helplessly. He didn't really have a choice.
"No wonder people call you the Flying-type Elite Four," Red teased.
"That's pure slander!" Lance said seriously, trying his best to shake off that nickname.
"Beneath the Great Canyon lie many ancient Pokémon that somehow survived. Unlike those revived through genetic technology, these are true prehistoric carnivorous Pokémon—they need to be handled carefully."
Red pointed underground as he explained the situation to Lance, reminding him to be cautious.
"I see. Looks like the Kanto League will have to award you another certificate of merit," Lance said, already used to it.
"That's nothing. I've already reported capturing three ancient Pokémon. Just don't let those old fossils in the League's upper management come bother me," Red said casually.
...
At that moment, in Pallet Town, Professor Oak was researching Kabutops and Omastar. After hearing a notification from the computer beside him, he curiously clicked the message.
"Wow! Not only did he capture Kabutops and Omastar, he even caught Aerodactyl—the so-called king of the ancient skies. Looks like Red's recent journey has been quite fruitful."
Professor Oak excitedly reviewed Aerodactyl's basic data, his lips trembling with joy. After all, ancient Pokémon weren't common research subjects—let alone real ones, not genetically revived versions.
Receiving three ancient Pokémon in one go made the old childlike professor ecstatic. He might find many things troublesome, but he never got tired of researching Pokémon.
...
After the Great Canyon incident ended, Red bid farewell to Ash and the others and continued his journey alone toward the Seafoam Islands.
As Red traveled alone toward the Cinnabar Gym, which held the Volcano Badge, battles along the way were inevitable.
At this moment, Red was battling a passing mountaineer.
"I choose you, Cubone!" Red called out, throwing a Poké Ball.
"I'm counting on you, Geodude!" the mountaineer shouted, throwing his own Poké Ball.
Two flashes of white light faded, revealing Cubone holding its bone club and Geodude appearing on the battlefield, both cautiously observing each other.
"Looks like I have the type advantage," Red said 'proudly,' trying to bait the mountaineer into making a mistake.
"The outcome isn't decided yet—Geodude, use Rollout!"
Hearing Red's words, the mountaineer impatiently launched an attack, unaware he had already fallen into Red's trap.
"Use Bone Club, then follow up with Brick Break!" Red commanded.
Geodude curled into a ball and rapidly rolled toward Cubone. However, the smaller Cubone showed no panic and calmly followed Red's instructions, swinging its bone.
The spinning bone struck Geodude, slowing its rolling speed and indirectly reducing the move's power.
Cubone's hands glowed white as it merged them into a blade-like strike and slammed down fiercely, nearly knocking Geodude over with a single Brick Break.
"Hang in there, Geodude!" the mountaineer encouraged.
"Give up struggling—Cubone, use Headbutt!"
Catching the returning bone, Cubone lowered its head and charged straight at Geodude. Exhausted, Geodude couldn't withstand Cubone's fierce momentum and failed to respond to its trainer's command, falling into a flinching state.
Frozen in place, Geodude was struck head-on by Cubone's Headbutt, its eyes spiraling as it lost the ability to battle.
"Cubone!"
Victorious, Cubone raised its hands in excitement. Just as Red was about to step forward and pat its head, a dazzling light of evolution burst from Cubone's body. Before Red and the mountaineer's eyes, Cubone's form began to change noticeably.
