Toshinori Yagi slowly stirred awake, a tired yawn escaping his lips as he ran a hand through his messy hair.
For a moment, he simply sat there on the edge of his bed, letting his mind wake up properly. Then, with a small exhale, he stood up and walked out of his room.
His steps were quiet as he made his way toward Akira's room.
Since Toshinori had decided to adopt Akira, he had brought him to his own home the previous day, wanting the boy to slowly get used to living with him. It was still new—strange even—but he was determined to make it work.
He gently opened the door and stepped inside. The room was… well, excessive.
A large, comfortable bed sat in the center. A flat-screen TV was mounted neatly on the wall. An AC unit hummed softly in the corner.
A computer setup rested on a desk, alongside various small items that a child might—or might not—use.
There were even extra shelves filled with books, toys, game consoles, game C.D.S, XBox, and random things Toshinori had bought in a hurry.
The truth was simple. He had no idea what Akira would like. So he bought everything.
Toshinori scratched his cheek awkwardly as he glanced around.
'…I might have overdone it.'
His gaze then shifted to the bed. Akira was sleeping quietly.
For a moment, Toshinori simply stood there, watching him. The boy looked peaceful—far more than he ever had since they found him.
A small smile appeared on Toshinori's face as he walked closer and gently placed his hand on Akira's head.
"…?"His smile froze.
The heat.
"…He's burning up?"
Toshinori's eyes widened in shock.
"Akira!" he called out immediately, gently shaking him. "Akira, wake up!"
No response. The boy didn't move. Didn't react to Toshinori's shouts.
Panic gripped him instantly.
Without another thought, Toshinori buffed up into his muscular form, his expression turning serious as he carefully picked Akira up in his arms. He rushed to the window, opened it in one swift motion and jumped out.
The wind roared past him as he propelled himself forward at incredible speed, heading straight toward U.A.
Time Skip
Back at U.A. High School, inside the infirmary, All Might—now back in his skinny form—stood nervously to the side as Recovery Girl examined Akira.
Beside him, Principal Nezu stood calmly, gently patting Toshinori's shoulder in an attempt to ease his anxiety.
Toshinori's eyes remained fixed on Akira. His breathing felt uneven. 'Please… be okay…'
Recovery Girl finally stepped back after completing her checkup.
"This fever," she began, "is a result of him not using his quirk."
Both Toshinori and Nezu looked at her. She continued, her tone serious. "Some quirks come with certain conditions. If those conditions aren't met, the quirk can begin to harm the user's own body."
She turned her computer screen toward them. Displayed on it was a scan of Akira's brain.
"There is… too much empty space in the nerve readings of this part," she explained. "This space likely exists to store quirks—consistent with the nature of All For One."
Toshinori's expression tightened.
"Since Akira has never taken a quirk," she continued, "that empty space is now negatively affecting his body."
"The only way to stabilize him," Recovery Girl concluded, "is for him to obtain at least one quirk to fill that space."
Nezu hummed thoughtfully, his eyes narrowing slightly as he processed the information.
Toshinori clenched his fists. "How… do we get him a quirk?" he asked. His mind immediately ran through possibilities—villains, criminals, even the inmates locked away in Tartarus.
But accessing Tartarus wasn't simple. It required permissions, documentation, approvals. It will take time. Time they didn't have.
Nezu spoke up calmly. "Why not deal with two problems at once?" he suggested. "Go out and apprehend villains causing trouble. Their quirks could be used to help Akira."
Toshinori turned his head toward Akira. The boy's breathing was still uneven. Sweat formed slightly on his forehead.
"…I'll be back soon," Toshinori said quietly. He didn't waste another second. He rushed out of U.A., immediately pulling out his phone as he accessed the hero network, scanning for any active criminal activity nearby.
It didn't take long. A report popped up. A gang known as the Master Thieves was causing trouble near a bank in a nearby city.
Toshinori's eyes hardened as he leapt into the air, his body cutting through the sky at high speed.
The wind roared around him as his thoughts focused on a single thing.
'Don't worry, Akira, Dad will be back soon!'
