"Kenny, is your head fuzzy again?" Dawn looked at her childhood friend as if looking at a mentally challenged child. "Ash is very strong; it's absolutely impossible for you to win!"

Along the way, Dawn had gradually witnessed Ash's true level.

Not to mention Ash defeating Elite Four Lucian, even the legendary Pokémon Dialga and Palkia were briefly intercepted by Ash.

The levels of the two were simply not on the same plane.

Out of concern for her childhood friend, Dawn still gave a kind reminder.

Although the other party did not accept it and even more persistently requested, "Ash, please have a battle with me!"

"Sure, let's go!"

Facing the persistent big boy, Ash finally agreed.

Since he had nothing else to do, he might as well have a Pokémon battle, just in time to test Chimchar's training results.

"Sigh, honestly!"

Knowing that persuasion was fruitless, Dawn could only step between the two and act as the referee once again.

Under the gazes of the spectators Brock and Pikachu, the two threw their Poké Balls one after another and sent out their Pokémon.

"Chim~"

On Ash's side, he sent out Chimchar, who had been training for a long time; after many days of training, this little guy had regained its confidence.

It stood on the field with a calm expression, watching its opponent.

And Kenny sent out a Breloom, which was mainly green and beige, with a mushroom on its head forming a straw hat shape, and an overall image like a kangaroo.

"What??"

Seeing the Grass/Fighting-type Breloom, everyone present was stunned.

What does he mean? Does he want to have an Encore type-disadvantage battle?

"This kid really is... persistent!" Brock, who was originally just watching, could only comment this way upon seeing this scene.

Pikachu!!

Pikachu nodded in agreement; the opponent was definitely a masochist—getting beaten once last time wasn't enough, and he came back for more this time.

"Kenny, how about you switch to another one? Use Prinplup to fight Chimchar!"

Ash kindly reminded the young man across from him; after all, for a Grass and Fighting-type Breloom to face a Fire-type Chimchar was pure masochism.

Even if Chimchar was still in its first stage, its strength was not low; one shouldn't be deceived by this illusion.

"Don't worry, Chimchar hasn't evolved yet; Breloom can definitely do it!"

As soon as these words came out, everyone was instantly dumbfounded.

Who taught Kenny that an unevolved Pokémon must be weak?

Did he know the gold content of someone who persisted under Paul's devilish training!

That was facing a siege of four or five Pokémon at once.

"Honestly!"

Dawn shook her head speechlessly, too lazy to bother with her overconfident childhood friend. "Since both sides are in position, the battle begins now!"

"Mach Punch!"

Compared to last time, Kenny spoke quickly at the start, taking the initiative to attack, having learned his lesson a bit.

Breloom's body turned into an afterimage, and its right hand glowed white as it lunged forward rapidly.

"Not bad!" This speed made Ash's eyes light up; it seemed the opponent wasn't a total noob. "Chimchar, Flamethrower!"

Facing a move too fast to dodge, he decisively let Chimchar take a head-on offensive approach.

"Chim~"

Chimchar's large eyes became sharp; while spinning in place, it spat out a Flamethrower.

This expanded the range of the originally linear attack move, turning it into a move that combined offense and defense.

Just as Breloom was about to hit Chimchar, it was blocked by the Flamethrower Counter Shield and was successfully hit by the damage from the Flamethrower.

"What!" Kenny was shocked.

Breloom's usually invincible Mach Punch had actually failed.

And what kind of usage was that for Flamethrower? It could even be used like that?

"Amazing, it's the Counter Shield!" Dawn couldn't help but praise, the familiar technique making the girl jump happily.

Hearing this, Kenny's expression became even more uncomfortable.

But there was no time to think; the Flame Wheel formed by Chimchar had already charged up.

His Breloom absolutely could not take another Fire-type move, or it would definitely be seriously injured.

"Quick, Breloom, Stun Spore!"

"Breloom~"

Breloom quickly shook the straw-hat-like mushroom on its head, and orange Stun Spore slowly covered the area toward Chimchar.

"Dig to avoid it!"

Just as the Rollout Flame Wheel was about to enter the field of Stun Spore, it suddenly slammed on the brakes and drilled into the ground.

The person and the Pokémon looked around frantically, searching for Chimchar's tracks.

"Chim~"

The ground beneath Breloom's heels began to crack, and Chimchar's orange body surged out from within.

"Quick, dodge!"

Kenny quickly shouted at Breloom, but Chimchar had already knocked Breloom to the ground with a punch before the opponent could even react.

"Flame Wheel!"

Chimchar once again turned into a wheel of fire and used Rollout toward Breloom.

"Quick, dodge!" Kenny shouted anxiously at the fallen Breloom.

"Breloom~"

It seemed Kenny's shout worked; Breloom propped itself up from the ground and dodged Chimchar's Flame Wheel with a timely roll.

"Great..."

"Flamethrower!"

However, before Kenny could be happy, Chimchar exited the Flame Wheel state, immediately stood up, and spat out a scorching column of fire.

This time, the aim was directed at the backward-rolling Breloom, hitting the opponent accurately.

With a scream, the Grass-type Breloom turned charred black and fell unconscious.

"Breloom is unable to battle, Chimchar wins, so the winner is still Ash!"

Dawn announced the result as expected and ran happily toward Ash, talking about the Counter Shield from just now.

"How can this be?"

Failing once again, Kenny began to doubt his life.

His Breloom was very strong; it had even won many type-disadvantage battles.

Why did it lose so cleanly to Chimchar on such an important day today?

Seeing the girl run to Ash's side to congratulate him, Kenny couldn't help but clench his fists and ask in frustration.

"Sigh, wouldn't it have been better to use Prinplup? Why insist on using the Grass-type Breloom!" Brock gave a speechless evaluation of Kenny, who had once again fought a type-disadvantage battle.

However, Brock still observed three seconds of silence for him to show sympathy as a fellow loser.

Pikachu!!

Pikachu had a very relieved look on its face.

This time it finally didn't have to take the field; otherwise, it would have to carefully control its power to avoid knocking the opponent out in one hit because its strength was too great.

"Chimchar, you performed very well!"

He leaned down and rubbed its head, giving it some praise.

"Not bad, you beat Breloom!" Dawn also sent her encouragement.

"Chim~"

Chimchar jumped up and down happily; although the opponent's strength was weak, being able to win the praise of Ash and Dawn still made it happy for a good while.

Thud!

Seeing such a harmonious scene, Kenny felt he was quite badly hurt.

After recalling Breloom, he left dejectedly.

Dawn, who was celebrating Ash's victory, was completely unaware of this.
