Away from the ward, Enzo was facing a battle of his own.
Nolan had returned just in time and was about to say something when a crushing blow slammed into his cheek. The force sent him stumbling across the floor, blood spilling from the corner of his mouth as pain exploded through his jaw.
"What the hell was that for?!" he shouted in shock.
He looked up to find an elderly woman dressed in medical scrubs standing before him, her expression cold enough to freeze blood.
"Are you kidding me? Aren't you a little too old for this?" he snapped.
His reward was another brutal punch that cracked against his jaw. This one nearly knocked him unconscious. Only pure instinct kept him on his feet.
"Yeah... got it," Nolan groaned, clutching his aching jaw. "You're definitely not that old."
Still rubbing the pain away, he looked toward where he had last seen Enzo.
Nothing.
Darkness swallowed almost everything around him. Only the tiny patch where he stood remained dimly illuminated.
