"Where's the rush?"
Ren's deep voice shattered the silence. He didn't shout, but his voice was resonant and powerful. So glacial it turned the blood in my veins to ice.
He took slow, deliberate steps toward us. Thud... Thud...
"Thought you could hide in a hole? Build a stupid little cage..."
"And I couldn't break my way in to take back what's mine?"
Every step was heavy and absolute. Like a lion reclaiming its territory from a backstabbing wolf.
"Don't come any closer!"
Zen screamed, his body trembling with a volatile mix of fury and terror. He viciously yanked me backward until my back slammed against the wall. His strong arm locked around my throat, cutting off my air. The freezing muzzle of his black handgun dug deep into my right temple.
"Take one more step, and I'll blow his brains out!" Zen hissed.
"Back off! Order your men to fall back right now!"
Ren stopped. He stood still amidst the billowing white smoke, his eyes locked onto Zen with pity and disgust.
