Chapter 35 - 35. Loss and Gain.

The silence that enveloped Class XI-A as Wei Yan and Ning Shuang stepped inside was no ordinary silence. It was the kind of silence created when a high frequency suddenly cuts through the radio noise; an invisible pressure emanating from Wei Yan's Eighth-Level Earth Integration, which, even suppressed to its lowest point, still radiated a terrifying aura of sovereignty.

Wei Yan didn't immediately walk to his seat. He stood for a moment in the doorway, letting his eagle-like eyes sweep across the room. In the blink of an eye, using his newly evolved Sovereign Sight ability, he performed an instant profile scan. In the thirty-person room, Wei Yan ruled out twelve extras who lacked the weight of destiny. But the rest? The rest were a collection of anomalies.

In the front left corner sat four female students of unbelievably beautiful beauty for a high school. They wore uniforms of varying styles—one looked cold and elegant, one looked lively with her hair in a ponytail, one looked bookish but possessed an air of elegance, and one exuded a subtle seductive charm. In Wei Yan's eyes, the Purple Destiny Fragment spun above their heads—a rare level of excellence.

However, what stunned Wei Yan slightly, causing him to slowly shake his head, was the figure sitting in the very back row, in a dimly lit corner of the room. It was a young man with messy hair and a seemingly "ordinary" face, yet his eyes held a hidden determination. Around him, threads of rainbow-colored light flickered faintly, attempting to hide themselves from the universe's detection.

"What's wrong, honey?" Ning Shuang whispered, noticing Wei Yan's shake of his head. She sensed something was amiss from the way Wei Yan was staring at the room.

"It's nothing," Wei Yan replied softly, his voice audible only to Ning Shuang. "It's just a fish that somehow managed to escape the net I set."

Ning Shuang's eyes widened. She was one of the women who knew the depth of Wei Yan's power. When Wei Yan called someone a "fish that escaped the net," it meant that person had a destiny anomaly on par with their own. "Huh? Is there someone in this class who...?"

"Shhh..." Wei Yan put his index finger to his lips, giving a mysterious, reassuring smile. "We'll talk about it at the school break. Now, let's enjoy the flow."

The two of them walked to an empty seat in the middle row, right at the center of the class. Every step Wei Yan took was met with envious glances from the boys and adoring glances from the girls. Ning Shuang's roommates, Xiao Rou, and Mei Ling, who were sitting nearby, could only give a secret thumbs-up, their faces still flushed.

As Wei Yan sat down and leaned back, he could feel the sharp gaze of the young man in the back row—the protagonist of Fragment of the Rainbow. The young man looked uneasy, as if his instincts were warning him that an apex predator had just entered his territory. Wei Yan only smiled faintly, not even bothering to look up. To him, the newly developing protagonist was simply "additional food" that he would devour when he was fully developed.

Teeeeeeet!

The bell rang loudly, signaling the start of the first period of the first day of school. Steady, rhythmic footsteps could be heard from the corridor, approaching the door of XI-A. A very specific scent—a blend of forest jasmine, sandalwood, and a hint of hormone-stimulating musk—began to permeate even before her figure was visible.

The door opened, and a woman stepped in with disarming authority. She wore a tight black pencil skirt, perfectly embracing her ample hips, and a fitted white silk shirt, giving her a professional yet seductive air. Thin-rimmed glasses perched on her high nose, but they did nothing to obscure the beauty of her mature face.

Wei Yan's eyes suddenly lit up. Through the Myriad Face of Infinite Truth, he saw something far more precious than all the purple fragments in the classroom. Surrounding this female teacher, an aura of destiny flared in a remarkable combination of colors: Blood Red, Deep Purple, and Pure Gold.

"Damn... this is a real jackpot," Wei Yan thought, his heart beating slightly faster. "A class teacher with such seductive beauty, yet her aura suggests she's still a 'seal'—pure and untouched. And the combination of the fragments... Red for luck, Purple for talent, and Gold for sovereignty. What an unexpected boon!"

The woman placed the attendance book on the teacher's desk with a soft thud.

"Good morning, class. Since today is our first day together in the honors class XI-A, I'll introduce myself first," her voice was hoarse and wet, carrying the kind of authority that makes men want to obey and dominate at the same time. "My name is Lin Zixuan. I am your homeroom teacher and the teacher of World Cultural History."

Lin Zixuan's eyes swept across the classroom, and when his gaze landed on Wei Yan, he froze for three full seconds. He felt a strange vibration in his chest, a resonance of destiny that he had always kept private. He cleared his throat to conceal his sudden nervousness.

"Alright, since this is the top class, I'd like to hear your introductions. We'll start from the back row, and please share your goals for this school."

One by one, the students stood up. Until it was the young man's turn in the back row.

"My name is Ye Fan," he said in a calm but firm voice. "My goal here is simple: to be the best and prove that talent cannot be defeated by social status."

At that, some students whispered sarcastically, but Ye Fan stood tall, his Rainbow Fragment aura beginning to pulse defiantly. Lin Zixuan nodded politely, though his eyes didn't linger on Ye Fan for long.

Then, it was the middle row's turn. Wei Yan stood up. Instantly, all the light in the room seemed to shine solely on him.

"Wei Yan," he said curtly. He didn't mention his convoluted background or ambitions. "My purpose here? Simply to ensure that everything goes according to my wishes."

The answer was so arrogant, so domineering, that it left Lin Zixuan rooted to the spot. The students in the class, including the four purple fragment holders, held their breath. This wasn't a student introduction; it was a declaration of authority.

"Your wish...?" Lin Zixuan tried to meet Wei Yan's gaze with the authority of her teacher, but she felt herself slowly melting under Wei Yan's eyes, which held a thousand secrets. "That's a... unique answer, Wei Yan. And next to you?"

Ning Shuang stood gracefully, her hand still lightly touching the hem of Wei Yan's jacket. "My name is Ning Shuang. My purpose is to be by Wei Yan's side and ensure his presence is not disturbed by unnecessary things."

The class erupted into an uproar. The couple had just publicly declared their relationship in the most elegant yet defiant manner. Ye Fan, in the back row, clenched his fists until his knuckles turned white. He could feel the threat emanating from his heart.

Lin Zixuan struggled to remain professional. "Okay, that was a very... impressive introduction. Let's begin our first lesson on 'The Origins of Civilization and the Law of Sovereignty.'"

Throughout the lesson, Wei Yan didn't pay attention to the blackboard. He noticed how the muscles in Lin Zixuan's neck tensed every time he looked at her. He noticed how the four female students in front kept stealing glances at him. And he noticed how Ye Fan kept trying to project her protagonist aura to capture the class' attention, but was always drowned out by Wei Yan's black hole-like presence—absorbing all attention without a trace.

Wei Yan smiled sarcastically. The first day of school had only been underway for an hour, but he already had a plan to harvest every fragment in the room, starting with the beautiful teacher who was currently writing on the blackboard with a slightly trembling hand.

"The real world is much more fun than I imagined," Wei Yan whispered to Ning Shuang, who could only nod slowly as she sensed the storm that was about to come to Yonghe National High School.

----

The first period bell had just stopped resonating off the walls of Class XI-A. The tense atmosphere during World Cultural History had now turned into a frenzy. However, before the students could rush out for air, Lin Zixuan's raspy, authoritative voice cut through the din.

"Wei Yan, Ning Shuang, come with me to the office now!"

Lin Zixuan didn't wait for a response. He tidied up his documents with slightly too-harsh movements, revealing the inner anxiety he was trying to conceal behind his thin-rimmed glasses. He immediately strode out, his heels clicking rhythmically on the corridor floor.

The students gasped. Whispers erupted like a disturbed beehive.

"It's only the first day and they're already being called to the office? Damn, did Mrs. Lin immediately realize they were 'playing' under the table?" whispered a student.

In the front corner, Leng Yixue, a student with a cold aura who held a supreme destiny fragment, stared at the empty classroom door with a flat yet sharp gaze. "It's only the first day..." she muttered softly. Although her face was as cold as ice, there was an inexplicable urge in her heart—a profound curiosity about Wei Yan who had just passed by her. Not only her, the other three female destiny fragment holders in the class also felt their hearts throb strangely, as if their souls were being subconsciously summoned by the same frequency.

Wei Yan rose from his seat casually, as if he had just been invited for tea, not interrogated. He took Ning Shuang's hand and led her out of the classroom under the gaze of dozens of pairs of eyes.

On their way down the corridor to the staff room, Ning Shuang whispered in an amused yet wary tone. She glanced at the students from other classes who were poking their heads out the door to catch a glimpse of this couple who looked like models on a magazine cover. "Honey, it seems we've attracted too much attention. Look at them, their faces full of prejudice."

Wei Yan smiled faintly, his eyes fixed straight ahead, staring at Lin Zixuan's back as he walked a few meters ahead. "It's easier this way, Shuang-er. The more they notice, the faster my influence spreads. Besides, look at him..." Wei Yan gestured with a flick of his chin toward the teacher's back. "He's completely taken in."

Ning Shuang giggled softly, a laugh that only Wei Yan could hear. "Hehehe... looks like there's going to be a new 'sister' in the family soon. The scent is already there, her Red-Purple-Gold aura is starting to churn."

Wei Yan sighed in resignation, though his grin betrayed satisfaction. "Who told your husband to be so great? Fate seems to have thrown itself into my lap."

"Ugh, narcissistic! Naughty!" Ning Shuang playfully slapped Wei Yan's arm, her face flushing.

Wei Yan didn't respond with words, but instead lightly poked Ning Shuang's sensitive waist with his finger and whispered in her ear, "I'll show you what true naughtiness is later at the mansion."

Ning Shuang's face immediately turned bright red, reaching all the way to her ears. She looked away, trying to regulate her breathing, which had suddenly become erratic due to the teasing of the man who now held sovereignty over her soul.
