[ PROLOGUE: "THE DEATH OF FINN FLYNN" ]
Finn felt like he was hit by a truck.
Which in reality, is the case, as minutes prior he was indeed hit by a 16-wheeler truck. The mysterious appearing from out of nowhere and killing him in the process.
"God, my bones." He felt weak, he felt fucked up, and worst of it all, he felt like shit, as his vision kept spinning around and around even with his eyes closed shut.
Plus with his ears ringing, Finn could a hundred percent say that he is at the moment, suffering in Hell. "Am I even alive...?"
He can't hear, he can't feel, he can't see, and he can't move anything else other than his lips, which takes a considerable amount of effort on his part. As speaking was difficult.
Well, anything would be difficult after getting hit by a truck. Even living, nonetheless speaking. But still, Finn could still "feel" to some extent that he was speaking.
And perhaps, the fact that he could still think, move, be scared and confused, is the worst feeling of it all. As he doesn't know a hundred percent if he's truly dead, or alive.
"I don't want to die, p-please!" And to him, that's torture already. Even more scary is the thought of an afterlife, after death.
Will he be going to Heaven, or burn in Hell. Perhaps Limbo exists, which is scary. Or perhaps other Religions we're right, and he'll be going into a completely different after life.
Who knows. Really, who knows. As Finn doesn't, and as the seconds pass by, he feels even more dreadful. And desperation clawed its way into his being, as he prayed.
"I want to live!" Until finally, he felt something in his chest---a warm feeling, which then expanded and expanded at a rapid pace.
A completely foreign, somewhat unexplainable feeling. Before then finally, fully encompassing his whole being. Which gave him enough strength to move his fingertips.
Which then extended to his hands, wrists, limbs, and so-on and so-forth. Until eventually, it was his eyelids turn; Which Finn then opened as fast as he could, "I'm-I'm alive!?"
Gasping for dear life. Finn opened his eyes and was greeted with darkness, which was scary, as his mind immediately spiraled into dark thoughts like Hell.
But then he noticed that the darkness he's seeing isn't the same "darkness" he was experiencing seconds prior. Which was unbearable, suffocating, and uncaring.
On the other hand, the darkness he's seeing is annoying, yes, but familiar. Alike the darkness he feels whenever he closes the lights for a good night's sleep.
"I'm stuck," Instinctively, he reached out, and felt a solid, metallic surface. Which then made him panic, as he tried to find the edge of the mysterious, godforsaken-thing.
And when he didn't, he felt even more scared, as he realized that he's stuck in a circular room. Claustrophobic, even to Finn Flynn who isn't easily scared of closed places.
In all that shuffling, moving around. He hit something, a button---which caused him to pause his panic, as he tried to feel the said thing. "Wh-what, buttons?"
He focused his attention and could feel 8 buttons in total. Two rows, four on each, with all of them equally sized. In fear of unknown repercussions, he didn't click any.
And instead, he searched for other distinct features that the circular-prison of his could hold. But other than the buttons---which he doesn't know the effects of---Finn couldn't find any other irregularities that could help.
"Shit, I don't want to die he-here. I don't wanna die a vi---" His fears were cut short by his not-so-idle fingers which was able to find and hook itself onto a small ledge of some sorts. In which calmed him down.
"Huh, never mind."
And if he is given the chance to take a guess, that just might be the door handle equivalent of the enclosed room that he's stuck in.
Huh... Hell is a weird place.
Levering what little strength he has, Finn pulled the said thing to the side. Though not without effort, which was straining for his poorly trained body. "Sucks ass."
But with his efforts comes the reward, as a ray of sunshine shined through past the creeks, lighting up the space that he's in. Partially, yes, but that's better than none at all.
Though he couldn't help but sense that something was off... If not for the somewhat heat-bright sun from outside---which graces his cheeks---then perhaps due to the air.
The air of which smelled foul, as if someone is constantly peppering the air outside, and burning tires at the same time.
An odd, disgusting feeling that Finn wants to ignore, but couldn't, due to the ever-constant presence of it. "Weird flavored air."
Though with a runny nose, and a headache, plus other abnormalities due to being hit by a 200+ pound, hunk of metal. Finn still continued his best, and pushed the door open.
"Whoah..." What greeted him was the blinding, toasty sun. So on instinct, he blocked his eyes using the palm of his hands; squinting as he does so, trying his best to see what-kind of Hell he's in... Or, after life.
Because, at this point. Given enough minutes to think for himself. Finn doesn't believe that he's still truly alive. Alive still, but not alive-alive. Though what kind of "alive", he doesn't know.
But after his eyes calmed down and adjusted---so does his nose to some extent---Finn was finally able to see what kind of "Hell" he was sent into. "Where... is this?"
And unlike the fiery red pits that he was led to believe by others, or any other depiction of the after life. What greeted him instead is a ruined city, overtaken by vines and nature.
To confirm that what he was seeing is real, he did the most basic reality checks, which was composed of pinching himself, closing and opening his eyes in rapid succession, and rubbing his said eyes. All of which passed.
And to him, that was scary. Because what he is seeing is not for the faint of heart. Scary to the point that he feels his knees buckling slightly, as if telling him to sit down. "No."
"This must be a fever dream..." Finn thought, wanting to believe. But with the vividness of the surroundings, his mind at a functioning level, and his senses working. "Is it?"
Everything, plus the truck that drove and killed him. Everything points to the undeniable fact that what he was seeing is reality. Or, maybe, a mangled distortion of it.
The buildings around are ruined, destroyed, some boarded by planks. All outright covered in moss and green. As if humanity had abandoned the building for centuries.
Not only the structures, but also the little things. The ruined roads which are covered in patches of dirt, weird-looking flowers already grow in some of them; attracting his attention.
The cars---which look to reminisce about the 80s, to some degree. As they don't look like they belong to the 21st century---seems to be in states of decay, as rust overtakes them.
The wire lines, destroyed, with most leaning or buried on the ground. The mailboxes, some weird-looking vending machines, and benches, are all either destroyed, or halfway there.
"I must be in Purgatory." He mussed, while somewhat amused and not at the same time. Mostly on the not side, "Fuck..."
Curious on what metal prison he was stuck to prior. On the place that he spawned into, a gaming term that he isn't that quite familiar about, but knows enough to use it.
And so he turned around and was met with a small pod-like contraption. A green-colored metal pod, with the words "Pulowski Preservation Shelter" written about above the exit that he pushed aside.
The letters are painted in white, in cursive to the name, the rest in a different font. He doesn't know any person named Pulowski---aside from the grumpy local pizza shop owner that he frequents too.
And he doesn't know why someone would need a Preservation Shelter per say. But the idea of it sounds awesome to an aesthetic conscious person like Finn that is.
To him, it screams retro-futuristic. Like, the cars, the buildings. Everything... In looking at it more closely, yes, everything to some extent shares the same aesthetic and vibe.
Like... The place that he's in is another place entirely, separate off of Earth that he was born and raised in. Which isn't exactly out of the picture, as he does believe that he died.
And now, likely in Hell. Purgatory. Or, maybe, another world. Abandoned, in a state of decay, and one that screams "WATCH OUT" in case he ever sees a resident of the place.
"Wait..." For a moment, Finn's three brain cells worked together, as he tried to connect everything. As it then---for him---clicks. And when it did, he got annoyed.
"Oh, man. Am I in the Backrooms?!" And also, even more terrified. As he knows that the entities existing inside it are all hostile. With most being kill-on-sight pricks.
And, the probability of that happening is high. As he remembers watching a Backroom news hours prior, the Backroom's Movie days prior, and Backroom's lore-video minutes prior to his death. So, everything connects.
And the conclusion that most fits. Firstly, he seemingly dies, then wakes up in another plain of existence---that's famously called no-clipping out of reality. And that, happened to him.
Secondly, the aesthetic of the place that he's in isn't normal. Like, what kind of civilization want a place looking like... THIS? Retro-futuristic, something you'll only see as a spare in the limitless Backrooms.
And lastly, there's no survivors in sight, and Finn prays it stays that way. As from what he heard through videos and the WiKi. All Backroom Entities are rarely benevolent.
"What-what kind of fucked up shit have I done to deserve this?" Aside from cursing at entitled people online that is, or bullying corrupt politicians, and children in games.
Other than that, he doesn't know why he deserved to be clipped out of reality. Perhaps it's his chronic laziness that did it, or his cowardice, or no-nonsense attitude.
Or maybe, his mouth which is always quick to cursing. Truly, he doesn't know. Perhaps he's just plain unlucky, and the Universe chose him as a test subject in its Backroom.
If so, then, Finn could only curse under his breath. As he seems to be just that... unlucky. And, he doesn't know exactly why. "Fuck..."
Perhaps it would have been alright if he knew what he did wrong before being sent to Hell, that would be great, but no. Fate seems to not care, not giving him the chance for closure.
And now... Now, he's inside the Backrooms, stuck. And likely to die within the hour, from Entities, from starvation, or insanity.
In being given the hand, Finn doesn't have any other choice but to pick a direction. That, or go back inside the metal-pod provided by whoever Mr. Pulowski may just be.
Which doesn't sound ap--- "That doesn't sound like a bad idea." In second thought, maybe starvation is better than being mangled, brutally by monsters.
From what the environmental story telling is saying to him, he could very well get murdered by sentient plant-based monsters. And to a meat-lover like him, that sounds scary enough.
"Okay, alright. I'm going back in."
With just the slightest bit of convincing from himself, Finn immediately did and went with the cowardly route. And, at least with that said route, he'll be living for a couple more hours.
If lucky, then maybe days. Which sounded horrible. But he'll take it.
Not wanting to think about the agonizing pain of starvation, as he'll cross that when he gets there. If he does get there.
The priority here is getting back inside the Pulowski Pod, and then curling up into a ball, pretending he doesn't exist. Wanting to not exist at all, and maybe, go back home.
Like, in the case of Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz: "No place like home." And all of that jizz with the twirling and red-shoe clicking.
"What the fuck---" But before he could shut the metal door, he noticed something moving beneath the rubble across the street.
Which made him focus on that instead, as he eyed the little-thing coming out of the ruined building. Trying to identify it. "---is THAT!?!"

[ FUN FACT: "In the world of Fallout there exist 13 Commonwealths. This is the reason why the in-game American Flag has 13 stars around it. The number 13 was chosen because there was originally 13 Colonies before the 50 States, and also, the US Government enact this to better control the people---they failed." ]
