AURORA
As I regained consciousness, the only thing that rang urgent in my head was the desperate need for answers to all the questions that had plagued me. I lay there, unable to move, pressed down heavily by the sedatives they had given me.
Never had I been so aware, even if my muscles flexed too stiffly to respond and the overhead lights stung my eyes. I was as alert as a half-corpse could possibly be.
I reached out into nothing in particular, hoping there was something I could brace my weight against to push myself upright, however wishful that hope was. There was no time for rest; I had had enough of that. My hand quivered horribly as I stretched it out, experimenting with the threshold of my remaining strength.
Then, my heart sank. My knuckles brushed against a cold, solid wall that my eyes had not yet adjusted enough to see.
