His eyes quietly studied every movement she made, from the way she accepted the payment to the way she lowered her head and thanked them.
He was looking for hesitation, nervousness, or perhaps some sign of guilt hidden beneath her professional smile. If she had truly been involved in the poisoning incident, then even the best disguise would usually reveal a crack somewhere. Like a calm pond disturbed by a falling stone, the human heart often left ripples behind.
Unfortunately, Harold found nothing.
