"Take back what you gave me!"
The moment the attack connected, the immense kinetic weight drove the knight down violently. Its massive body lost all balance, crashing against the ground as if the strike had shattered its very stance. The blade pierced through the neck guard, cutting through the dense magical resistance.
The King Knight finally stopped.
But it wasn't completely finished.
The blade halted for a fraction of a second, caught within the armored throat. Before Aron could pull back, the King Knight's hand shot up with terrifying speed, wrapping its iron fingers tightly around Aron's forearm.
"You're still not finished…?"
The grip tightened, threatening to crush his bones. Deep cracks began to spread across the knight's armor—not from Aron's physical strike, but from an unstable energy building up within its own core. Its hollow, abyssal gaze locked onto him.
The monster pushed back. The sheer pressure forced Aron's blade out of its neck inch by inch. Aron's footing began to slip.
"…You're still standing?"
The shadow energy around Aron's arms tightened instinctively, responding to his refusal to yield. He dug his boots into the stone and pressed forward again.
"No."
"I wasn't faster than you."
"Your blade just couldn't reach me in time."
Zero hesitation remained. Aron stepped deeper into the strike, driving the blade past the throat and straight into the center of the entity's chest core, pouring every shred of his soul into the metal.
The King Knight pushed back, its dark flames surging stronger than ever before, refusing to meet its end.
"Activate… [Colossal Force]!" Aron roared.
The skill detonated. The blade sank fully into the chest cavity. This time, it didn't stop. The armor began to spiderweb with blinding white fractures under the internal impact.
The stronger Aron's internal resolve became, the heavier and more catastrophic the payload of the strike grew.
"Now… FALL!"
The compressed force surged inward, then erupted violently. The King Knight's armor cracked, split, and exploded apart piece by piece as the raw energy tore through it from the inside out.
The dark flames didn't die.
They surged.
For a horrifying second, the flames compressed inward instead of fading. The shattered armor continued breaking apart, yet the King Knight took a step forward.
Then another.
Its chest core was gone. Half of its body had already crumbled into dust.
Yet it continued advancing.
One. Two. Three.
The blue flames poured from every crack in its ruined armor like blood from a mortal wound.
"...What the hell...?"
Aron's pupils contracted.
The monster was already dead.
But it kept moving. Its hollow gaze never once left Zekai.
Not Aron.
Zekai.
As if the outcome it was pursuing still hadn't been fulfilled.
The King Knight's broken arm shot forward.
CRACK!
Iron fingers closed around Aron's shoulder. The force nearly tore the joint from its socket.
"AAGHH—!"
Aron screamed.
The creature's body was collapsing. Its armor was turning to ash.
Its core no longer existed. Yet its grip tightened.
As though inevitability itself refused to accept death.
For the first time, the King Knight looked directly at Aron.
Not past him. Not through him.
At him.
The blue flames inside its shattered helmet flickered weakly.
"...So the dying version wasn't you."
Aron's eyes widened.
The King Knight's grip tightened slightly. As if it had finally understood something.
"...The outcome changed."
For the first time since Aron met it—the King Knight sounded uncertain.
The blue flames suddenly surged toward its chest cavity.
Compressing. Condensing. Shrinking into a single point.
Aron's instincts exploded.
Danger. Pure danger.
Without thinking, he drove the sword even deeper.
"STAY DOWN!"
The remaining fragments of the King Knight finally cracked apart.
For one brief moment, the creature stopped moving.
Then—
BOOOOOOOOM!!
The compressed blue flames detonated outward.
The explosion swallowed both of them.
Aron felt something snap inside his body as the blast hurled him across the ruined hall.
Stone walls shattered. Ancient pillars collapsed.
His body bounced violently across the floor before crashing into broken rubble.
Everything went silent.
The blue flames dispersed into the air.
This time...
The King Knight did not stand back up.
The dark flames flickered, sputtered, and finally died as the core shattered.
Silence.
For a long, agonizing second, everything went completely still. Aron's hands were still shaking, even after the monster had turned to dust. His breath followed a heartbeat late, slower and heavier.
His grip loosened, his sword clattering against the ground. His body didn't even realize the life-or-death struggle was over. He didn't feel inherently stronger. He just felt harder to break.
"…Huh?"
The world didn't reset. The air didn't rewind. Time didn't return to the start of the loop.
This time... the one who fell was the King Knight.
[ ENTITY STATUS: TERMINATED ]

[ SYSTEM: AREA CLEARANCE CONFIRMED. ]
It didn't adapt this time. It didn't fail.
Aron simply hadn't died this time.
The moment the tension left his nervous system, his strength evaporated completely. He dropped heavily to one knee, using his hands to barely keep himself from collapsing face-first onto the stone.
"This… was the biggest thing I have ever done in my life," he wheezed, a tired, genuine smile breaking through the blood on his face.
"Finally… it's over."
The reality layer didn't reset. The environment didn't rewind its coordinates. The timeline didn't return to the threshold.
He slowly turned his head to look at Zekai, a quiet sense of profound relief and happiness filling his chest.
"All of this… was for you, Mr. Zekai."
The blue flames flickered once.
Then vanished.
As if the future it was trying to reach no longer existed.
Thud. Thud. Thud.
A heavy, echoing sound vibrated from the dark corridor behind him.
Aron froze. He turned his head slowly, the color draining from his face as the surrounding atmosphere shifted into something vastly more oppressive than before.
And for the second time, pure, unadulterated fear returned.
