The man in the third row trembled so hard his knees nearly buckled. Lucifer watched him with the eager anticipation of someone waiting for a punchline.
"Well?" Lucifer prompted. "We don't have all night."
"I... I stole money," the man stammered. "From my job. Years ago. I... I paid it back, I swear..."
Lucifer snapped his fingers.
One of his men lowered his weapon.
"See?" Lucifer said brightly. "That wasn't so hard. Honesty is refreshing."
Davina remained perfectly still. Her heartbeat was steady, controlled. She'd learned long ago that panic only fed him.
Lucifer paced again, hands clasped behind his back.
"But that was too easy," he said. "Let's raise the stakes."
He stopped suddenly, turning toward the audience with a grin that made several people shrink back.
"Round two."
He pointed to a woman near the aisle. "You. Stand."
She rose slowly, tears already streaming down her face.
Lucifer tilted his head. "Tell me the name of someone in this room you would sacrifice to save yourself."
The woman shook her head violently. "I... I can't..."
"You can," Lucifer corrected. "Or you die in someone elses place. I'm flexible."
Davina's jaw tightened. Ian leaned closer, whispering, "We can take them."
"No," she murmured. "Not yet."
Lucifer tapped his foot impatiently. "Tick‑tock."
The woman sobbed harder. "I... I don't want anyone to die!"
Lucifer sighed dramatically. "People always say that. And yet..."
He raised his hand.
Davina's fingers twitched.
But before he could snap, the woman screamed, "HIM! The man next to me! I'm sorry! I'm sorry! I'm sorry!"
Lucifer lowered his hand, smiling warmly. "See? Progress."
The man beside her recoiled, horrified. The woman collapsed back into her seat, shaking uncontrollably.
Lucifer clapped once. "Now that was entertaining."
He resumed pacing, but this time his steps slowed. His smile faded into something colder, more focused.
"You know," he said, voice dropping, "this game was never really about them."
He stopped.
The spotlight above Davina flared brighter.
"It was always about you."
Ian tensed. Sebastian's hand hovered near his weapon. The officers near the walls subtly shifted their stance.
Lucifer spread his arms wide, as if presenting her to the room.
"Ladies and gentlemen," he announced, "our reigning champion. The girl who beat me once. The girl who thinks she can hide behind a dress and her own name."
Lilith leaned forward, eyes gleaming. "This is the best part," she whispered loudly.
Lucifer stepped to the very edge of the stage, staring directly at Davina.
"Tell me, sweetheart," he said softly, "do you think you'll win again?"
Davina didn't blink.
Lucifer's smile sharpened.
"Good," he said. "Because tonight's game? It's designed just for you."
He snapped his fingers.
The screen behind him changed... showing a live feed of the lobby, the exits, the street outside.
And then...
A camera feed of the officers who had escorted her.
Bound.
Disarmed.
On their knees.
Ian inhaled sharply. Sebastian swore under his breath.
Lucifer's voice dropped to a purr.
"Let's see how many people you can save… before you lose everything."
Lucifer watched Davina with a slow, spreading smile. the kind that meant he'd already decided what came next.
"Come now," he said lightly, "don't make me drag you up here. That would be… undignified."
Davina didn't move.
Ian shifted beside her, ready to stand. Sebastian's hand hovered near his jacket. But Davina lifted a single finger. not yet. and both froze.
Lucifer sighed dramatically, placing a hand over his heart.
"Oh, sweetheart. You know I adore your stubbornness. Truly. But tonight isn't about what you want."
He snapped his fingers.
Two of his armed men moved instantly, weaving through the rows toward her. The audience shrank back, parting like water around them. Davina remained perfectly still as they approached, not out of fear, but calculation.
When they reached her row, one of them gestured with the barrel of his weapon.
"Stand."
Ian rose halfway out of his seat, but Davina touched his arm, stopping him. She stood slowly, deliberately, her expression unreadable.
Lucifer beamed. "There she is."
The guards flanked her, guiding her down the aisle. Not touching her, they knew better, but close enough to make refusal impossible without triggering a massacre.
Every eye in the theater followed her.
Every breath felt held.
As she reached the steps leading to the stage, Lucifer extended a hand as though welcoming a dance partner.
"Come on up," he said. "Let's give our audience the reunion they've been dying to see."
Davina ignored his hand and stepped onto the stage on her own. The spotlight followed her, isolating her in a pool of white light.
Lucifer circled her slowly, theatrically, like a showman presenting his star attraction.
"Look at you," he murmured. "All grown up. All polished. All pretending you're not still the same terrified little girl who beat my game by accident."
Davina's voice was calm. "I didn't win by accident."
Lucifer's grin sharpened. "Oh, I know. That's what makes this so much fun."
He turned to the audience, arms spread wide.
"Ladies and gentlemen, tonight's main event is simple. Our dear Davina will play one more round. One final game. And the stakes…" He gestured toward the screen showing the bound officers. "…are everyone you care about."
Lilith clapped excitedly from the wings. "This is going to be so good!"
Lucifer leaned in close to Davina, his voice dropping to a whisper only she could hear.
"Let's see if the hero can save them all."
He stepped back, raising his voice again.
"Round one begins now."
The lights shifted.
A new spotlight snapped on, illuminating someone in the audience.
Killian.
His eyes widened as the crowd gasped.
Lucifer laughed, delighted.
"Oh, don't look so surprised," he said. "Family makes the best leverage."
Davina's pulse finally spiked.
Lucifer saw it.
And smiled.
Killian stood frozen in the spotlight, jaw clenched, eyes flicking between Lucifer and Davina. For a split second, panic flashed across his face, the kind he'd never admit to. But it wasnt for himself, it was for Davina.
Davina met his gaze.
Just one look.
A tiny tilt of her head. A soft narrowing of her eyes.
Play along.
Killian's breathing steadied. His shoulders lowered a fraction. He understood.
She shifted her gaze to Sebastian next, a silent command, sharp and precise.
Not yet. Follow my lead.
Sebastian gave the smallest nod, slipping seamlessly back into the role of the composed, unassuming butler. Only Davina noticed the tension in his jaw.
Lucifer, of course, noticed everything else.
He clapped his hands once, delighted. "Oh, this is precious. A family reunion under the spotlight. I should've sold tickets."
Killian glared at him, but stayed silent, exactly as Davina needed.
Lucifer sauntered closer to the edge of the stage, pacing with theatrical swagger. "You know, Davina, I have to say… you've done well. And dont think i haven't been watching, after all you are the one that got away."
Davina didn't respond.
Lucifer's smile sharpened. "But no matter how much you try to be the kind and generous billionaire, always giving to those in need, you're still the same little girl who cried while I..."
He stopped.
Because Davina finally moved.
Just her head, turning toward him with a slow, icy precision that made the entire room go silent.
Her voice was quiet.
Controlled.
Deadly.
"Careful," she said. "You're forgetting who took your eye."
A ripple went through the audience.
Lucifer's smile twitched... just for a heartbeat, before he smoothed it back into place.
Lilith let out a delighted gasp. "Oh, she remembers!"
Lucifer chuckled, but the sound was tighter now. "Yes. You did take my eye." He tapped the black patch covering the left side of his face. "A souvenir I cherish. A reminder of our little dance."
He leaned in, lowering his voice so only she, and the front row, could hear.
"But tonight, sweetheart… I take something back."
Davina didn't blink.
Lucifer straightened, turning dramatically toward Killian.
"Round one," he announced, "is simple. Your brother answers a question. If he lies…" He gestured lazily toward his men. "Someone dies."
Killian's jaw tightened.
Davina's eyes flicked to him again, another silent message.
Stay calm. Follow my lead.
Lucifer grinned. "Killian, darling, tell the room… what's the worst thing your sister has ever done?"
The crowd gasped.
Killian's eyes widened.
Lucifer's grin widened.
Davina's expression didn't change.
But inside, she was already calculating.
Already planning.
Already preparing to break the game.
