Alden remained where he was for several moments, carefully observing his surroundings.
The cave was silent.
No growls echoed from the darkness. No hidden monster suddenly leaped out from behind the glowing crystals. Aside from the occasional sound of dripping water somewhere in the distance, the entire chamber was eerily peaceful.
Even so, Alden didn't lower his guard.
The past week had taught him that appearances could be deceiving. A patch of ground could turn out to be a giant chameleon, a harmless-looking mushroom could be poisonous, and a random cave might very well contain something that considered him a convenient meal.
Slowly gripping his saber, he began walking through the crystal chamber.
The place was far larger than he had initially thought. Countless crystal formations stretched across the cavern, growing from the floor, walls, and even the ceiling. Their pale blue glow illuminated the surroundings, creating a sight so beautiful that Alden almost forgot he was standing inside a cave.
For the first time since arriving in this world, darkness wasn't constantly surrounding him.
He spent nearly ten minutes exploring the chamber and checking every corner he could reach. Only after confirming there were no obvious dangers nearby did his attention finally shift toward the crystals themselves.
One cluster near the wall caught his eye.
Curious, Alden crouched down and broke off a small fragment roughly the size of his palm.
The crystal felt surprisingly cold.
At first, it seemed like nothing more than a pretty rock.
Then he noticed something unusual.
The moment he attempted to absorb mana from the surroundings, the crystal reacted. A faint stream of energy flowed from the stone into his body.
Alden blinked.
Then blinked again.
A grin slowly spread across his face.
"Mana stone?"
He wasn't completely certain, but he had read enough novels to recognize one when he saw it.
Looking around the cavern once more, he suddenly realized just how many crystals surrounded him.
If these were truly mana stones, then he had stumbled into a treasure trove.
Alden immediately sat down.
The village could wait.
His current strength was barely enough to survive, and he still knew almost nothing about this world. If he could improve himself before leaving, there was no reason to rush.
"A few extra days won't hurt."
Holding the crystal in his hand, he began cultivating.
The difference was immediate.
Normally, gathering mana felt like collecting drops of water during a light rain. Here, it felt as if someone had handed him a bucket and pointed toward a river.
Mana continuously flowed into his body before gathering around the yellow core near his heart. The process felt smoother than ever before, and for the first time since learning how to cultivate, he could clearly feel himself improving.
Fifteen minutes passed before a notification appeared.

Alden's eyes brightened.
This was exactly the kind of improvement he wanted. A temporary boost would disappear eventually, but permanent growth would stay with him forever.
Without wasting any time, he continued cultivating.
Hours passed quietly.
The cave remained silent while mana continuously flowed into his body. Several smaller crystals around him gradually dimmed as their stored energy was absorbed.
Nearly two hours later, another notification appeared.

Mana Sense (Unique)
Allows the user to perceive the surrounding world through mana.
Current Range: 50 Meters
Living beings, mana-rich objects, and active energy sources can be detected within the sensing radius.
The effectiveness and range of Mana Sense grow alongside the user's Mana and Soul.
Higher mastery may allow the user to distinguish individual signatures, affinities, emotional fluctuations, and hidden presences.

An ability.
A real ability.
Naturally, Alden activated it immediately.
The next second, he regretted it.
A flood of information crashed into his mind. Streams of mana filled the cave in every direction, intertwining and shifting like invisible rivers. The glowing crystals appeared like miniature stars, while countless tiny signatures moved throughout the surrounding tunnels.
The overwhelming flood of information nearly made him stumble.
Alden immediately shut the skill off and massaged his forehead.
"Just because you have a library in your house doesn't make you a genius."
Apparently, the same logic applied to Mana Sense.
After resting for a while, he tried again.
This time he proceeded more carefully, focusing on a smaller area instead of trying to perceive everything at once.
The difference was immediate.
The headache became manageable.
Mana Sense wasn't vision.
It was awareness.
Living creatures appeared as blurry shapes formed from mana, while the crystals shone brightly within his perception. It felt strange, almost unnatural, but there was no denying how useful it could become.
Satisfied with his progress, Alden decided to remain in the cave for a few more days.
The following days settled into a simple routine.
He cultivated whenever he was inside the crystal chamber, hunted whenever he needed food, and trained with his saber whenever he found free time.
The monsters inhabiting the cave weren't particularly strong. In fact, most of them seemed weaker than the giant chameleon he had fought near the lake.
Unfortunately, they rarely traveled alone.
Packs of horned rodents roamed the tunnels searching for food. Dark wolves hunted in groups, while monkey-like creatures leaped across cave walls and threw stones from a distance whenever they spotted him.
The first few encounters were far from pleasant.
Several times Alden found himself retreating after being surrounded. Once, a group of wolves chased him through multiple tunnels before he escaped by climbing onto a narrow ledge they couldn't reach. Another time, a group of monkey-like monsters spent nearly ten minutes throwing rocks at him while staying just out of range.
The experience had been frustrating.
But it was also effective.
Every battle taught him something new.
As the days passed, Alden gradually adapted. Instead of relying purely on strength, he began using the terrain around him. Narrow tunnels prevented monsters from surrounding him, while elevated positions allowed him to control the flow of battle. Mana Sense also proved incredibly useful, helping him detect nearby creatures before they entered his field of vision.
At first, he simply survived.
Then he started winning.
His saber movements became smoother with every battle. Although he was still far from a true swordsman, he no longer looked like someone randomly swinging metal around and hoping for the best.
Progress came slowly.
But it came.
After another successful hunt, Alden returned to the crystal chamber and sat down beside one of the larger crystal clusters.
The past few days had been surprisingly productive.
Between cultivating, training with his saber, and fighting monsters throughout the cave, he could clearly feel himself growing stronger. The changes weren't dramatic enough to happen overnight, but they were impossible to ignore.
His swings felt faster.
His body felt lighter.
Even circulating mana had become noticeably easier than before.
Curious about how much he had improved, Alden opened his status.

Alden studied the screen for a few moments before nodding in satisfaction.
The increase wasn't ridiculous, but it was real.
His mana had improved the most thanks to the crystal cave, while the constant battles had steadily strengthened the rest of his body. Most importantly, he had finally reached the Advanced stage of the Awakened Realm.
It wasn't enough to make him arrogant.
But it was enough to make him confident.
Unfortunately, confidence rarely lasted long.
Later that day, while scouting an unexplored section of the cave, Alden noticed something unusual.
A deep claw mark stretched across a stone wall.
He paused.
The mark wasn't carved into dirt.
It had been carved into solid rock.
Alden frowned and continued forward.
Soon he discovered another.
Then another.
The deeper he went, the more signs he found.
Several mana crystals had been shattered and scattered across the ground. They hadn't been mined or broken naturally.
They had been crushed.
As though something enormous had walked straight through them without caring.
Alden's expression gradually became serious.
A short distance later, he found bones.
Lots of bones.
Some belonged to monsters he recognized.
Others were too damaged to identify.
One skeleton in particular caught his attention. The creature had easily been twice his size when alive, yet something had bitten clean through its ribcage.
Alden crouched beside the remains and examined the marks.
The bite alone was larger than his head.
For the first time since discovering the crystal cave, his excitement cooled.
Maybe this place wasn't simply a treasure trove.
Maybe it belonged to something.
Something large.
Something strong.
And something that hadn't returned home yet.
As he prepared to leave, Mana Sense suddenly reacted.
A massive mana signature appeared at the very edge of his perception.
For a brief moment, it felt like staring at a bonfire while holding a candle.
Then it disappeared.
Alden froze.
The cave suddenly felt much quieter than before.
A cold feeling ran down his spine.
He slowly tightened his grip around his saber.
"I'm definitely not alone in here."
