Chapter 96 - Chapter 76: Ideological Warfare, the Brink of Annihilation

The secluded residence of the Slaughter God Pavilion still thrummed with the residual energy from the "Four Symbols Unification" session. The air itself felt heavy, charged with a power that set one's teeth on edge.

Lin Che stood facing Su Qingyao, Luo Jiayin, and Meng Qingcheng, the four of them silently marveling at the torrential, unprecedented power now coursing through their veins. The joy of their breakthrough was tempered by a deep, shared apprehension for the future. But this fragile moment of peace was shattered as several immensely powerful auras closed in on their location.

"They're here," Su Qingyao announced, her sharp eyes narrowing. Her Late Void Refining spiritual sense spread out like a net, instantly appraising the newcomers. "Four of them. Their cultivation bases are... unfathomable. At least Late Void Refining, and one of them... I can't even read him."

"Their auras don't feel malevolent," Meng Qingcheng observed, a wisp of icy sword Qi flickering at her fingertip. "They seem orthodox, like the righteous sects. But... they're holding back their killing intent. It doesn't feel like an attack."

Luo Jiayin let out a light, melodious laugh. "When do the 'righteous' ever show up with good news? Are they jealous that our Pavilion Master is surrounded by such beauty and have come to 'punish the wicked'?"

Lin Che's face reddened. He cleared his throat, forcibly suppressing the lingering awkwardness from their earlier "cultivation session" and the thrill of his breakthrough. "Whatever it is, we'll face it. Let's go see what they want."

With a shared glance, the four of them flashed to the center of the training ground.

Almost simultaneously, four streaks of light slammed into the ground like falling stars, the shockwave flattening the surrounding grass. As the light faded, four figures stood revealed.

At their head was an ancient man in pristine, moon-white Taoist robes, holding a jade horsetail whisk. He possessed the ageless, ethereal bearing of a celestial sage, his eyes so clear and deep they seemed to peer into one's very soul. His aura was perfectly harmonized with the world around him—a top-tier expert, half a step into the Unity Stage.

Behind him stood two men and a woman: a stern, middle-aged swordsman with a massive blade strapped to his back; a bald monk in magnificent kasaya robes, emanating a faint Buddhist radiance; and an elegant noblewoman in lavender palace attire, her gaze sharp despite her delicate appearance.

Any one of these four was a titan, a figure who could shake the foundations of the cultivation world with a single step.

"This humble Daoist is Yu Xuzi," the white-robed elder said, performing a formal salute. "I pay my respects to Pavilion Master Lin and the three fair maidens."

"Yu Xuzi?" Lin Che's heart skipped a beat. The Grand Elder of the Blossom Palace?A living legend who had not been seen in public for millennia. What could bring such a person to his doorstep?

"Elder Yu Xuzi, the honor is mine," Lin Che returned the salute, his wariness intensifying. "To what do we owe this visit?"

Yu Xuzi sighed, a shadow of worry crossing his timeless face. "Pavilion Master Lin, I will speak plainly. I have not come for personal grievances, but for a matter concerning... the very survival of the entire Xuantiān Realm."

"Survival?" Lin Che and the three women exchanged startled glances.

"Indeed," the stern swordsman behind Yu Xuzi spoke, his voice like a booming bell. "I am Jian Wuhen, Sect Master of the Heavenly Sword Sect. This is Master Liaoyin, Abbot of the Ten-Thousand Buddha Temple. And this is Hua Xiangrong, Valley Master of the Flower Valley."

With each introduction, Lin Che's heart grew heavier. The leaders of the three most powerful orthodox sects, plus the Grand Elder of the Blossom Palace... This was an alliance of the realm's mightiest. What kind of calamity could compel them to join forces?

"What has happened?" Su Qingyao stepped forward, the pressure of her Late Void Refining stage faintly discernible, a clear challenge to the elder's authority.

Yu Xuzi's eyes showed a flicker of surprise at her power. Stroking his beard, his expression grew grave. "Have any of you... heard of the entity known as Demon King Little Black?"

"Demon King Little Black?" Lin Che frowned. The name was entirely unfamiliar.

"He is... an anomaly," Hua Xiangrong said, her voice soft but cold. "He is not like ordinary demonic cultivators. He does not drain essence or refine souls. In fact... he rarely ever leaves his lair—the Isle of Demonic Slaughter."

"The Isle of Demonic Slaughter?" Luo Jiayin gasped. "That legendary forbidden zone, where demonic energy blots out the sky and no life exists for a thousand miles?"

"Precisely," Abbot Liaoyin intoned, pressing his palms together. "Amitabha. The isle is a convergence point for the world's most corrupt Yin and evil energies. Any orthodox cultivator who steps foot there finds their spiritual power severely suppressed. The stronger the cultivator, the greater the suppression. And Demon King Little Black is the master of that isle."

"His power is unfathomable," Jian Wuhen added, a trace of fear in his voice. "Centuries ago, the four of us joined forces to storm the isle, intending to eradicate him. Yet... the four of us together could not last ten moves against him. Had he not shown mercy, we would have perished that day."

"What?!" Lin Che felt the blood drain from his face. Four top-tier experts, at the Peak of Void Refining or even half-step into Unity, couldn't last ten moves? What manner of monster was this?

"If he showed mercy, why is he now a threat to the world?" Meng Qingcheng asked the crucial question.

Yu Xuzi let out a long, weary sigh. "The problem lies in his... 'Dao.' Little Black was once a recluse, content to cultivate his demonic energy in isolation. But over millennia, he has scoured ancient texts and reached a... shocking conclusion."

"What conclusion?" Su Qingyao pressed.

"He believes," Yu Xuzi's voice dropped to a near-whisper, "that the current cultivation world... has taken the wrong path."

"The wrong path?" Lin Che was dumbfounded.

"Yes," Jian Wuhen interjected, his tone heavy. "His research claims that all the great figures of antiquity cultivated 'demonic energy,' not 'spiritual energy.' He believes that spiritual cultivation is a heresy, a deviation that occurred later. Only by tempering the body with demonic energy can one touch the true source of the Dao."

"Preposterous!" Meng Qingcheng couldn't help but retort. "Spiritual energy is the essence of heaven and earth, nourishing all life! How can it be heresy?"

"We think so too," Hua Xiangrong said with a bitter smile. "But he believes it with all his being. He is convinced that the current world has been 'polluted' by spiritual energy, strayed from the true path. To 'correct this mistake,' he believes the only solution is to... wipe the slate clean."

"Wipe the slate clean?" Luo Jiayin's eyes widened. "What... what does he intend to do?"

Yu Xuzi took a deep breath and delivered the chilling answer. "He intends to... purify this world. In his words, to 'restart the Heavenly Dao.'"

"Restart the Heavenly Dao?" Lin Che's heart hammered in his chest. "How?"

"He has... acquired a relic from the ancient past," Yu Xuzi said slowly, each word weighted with dread. "An artifact known as... the Immortal-Refining Bell."

"The Immortal-Refining Bell?" Su Qingyao's brow furrowed. "What is its purpose?"

"It was originally an ancient immortal artifact, capable of suppressing all things and refining both immortals and demons," Yu Xuzi explained. "But Little Black seeks to pervert its nature. He is using his supreme demonic arts to refine the bell, intending to transform it into a weapon of annihilation—the World-Ending Bell!"

"The World-Ending Bell?" Lin Che's voice trembled.

"Once the bell is complete," Abbot Liaoyin's voice was filled with sorrow, "a single chime will rewrite the laws of heaven and earth. Spiritual energy will be thrown into chaos, then dissipate entirely. All life will wither and die. The Xuantiān Realm will return to primordial chaos. And the bell's power makes no distinction between good and evil—even the Isle of Demonic Slaughter, and Little Black himself, will be destroyed."

"He... he wants to drag the entire world down with him for his... ideology?" Luo Jiayin asked, aghast.

"Exactly," Yu Xuzi said mournfully. "In his eyes, this is not destruction, but 'purification.' He will use this bell to erase this 'mistake' of a world, including himself, to 'welcome' what he believes is the true 'Ancient Dao.'"

"He's insane..." Meng Qingcheng whispered, horror in her eyes.

"The refinement of the bell is in its final stages," Jian Wuhen clenched his fist. "We estimate... we have, at most, one year. If we cannot stop him, the Xuantiān Realm... will cease to exist."

Yu Xuzi looked at Lin Che, his gaze earnest. "Pavilion Master Lin, we have not come to make demands, but to form an alliance. Your pavilion is new, but you and these three maidens are prodigies of unparalleled talent. Especially Lady Su—to reach the Late Void Refining stage at such a young age is something this humble Daoist has never witnessed. We need your strength to face this demon."

"An alliance?" Lin Che's mind raced. This was a matter of the world's survival. But how could they possibly hope to defeat such a foe?

"Elder, I do not refuse lightly," Lin Che said after a moment's thought. "But given Little Black's power and the disadvantage of the isle... what chance do we truly have?"

"The odds are slim, but not zero," Yu Xuzi stroked his beard, his expression grim. "The Isle of Demonic Slaughter is a death trap for orthodox cultivators. Our spiritual power will be suppressed; we will be lucky to wield half our strength. The demonic cultivators, however, will be empowered by the environment. However... we have confirmed that Little Black is completely focused on refining the bell. He cannot be distracted. This is our only chance—if we can bypass his demonic generals and strike directly at the heart, we may have a sliver of hope."

"His subordinates?" Su Qingyao asked.

"All are Great Demons at the Unity Stage," Hua Xiangrong said with a pained expression. "At least... ten of them."

The four of them stared, speechless. Ten Unity Stage experts? The sheer scale of the threat was staggering.

"Therefore, we need a plan," Yu Xuzi's gaze burned into Lin Che. "A plan to infiltrate the isle and destroy the bell before it is completed. And you... especially Lady Su, with her ability to resist and even suppress demonic energy... you are the key to that plan."

Su Qingyao's eyes flashed with a complex light. Her Chaos Azure Lotus origin did indeed grant her a powerful resistance to demonic energy. This old man was perceptive.

Lin Che looked at the three women beside him. In their eyes, he saw the same resolve. There was no turning back.

"Very well," Lin Che took a deep breath and stepped forward. "This concerns all living beings. I cannot stand idly by. We accept your alliance."

Yu Xuzi and the others visibly relaxed.

"Excellent!" Yu Xuzi smiled. "Time is of the essence. We must convene at the Blossom Palace immediately to formulate a strategy."

"Agreed," Lin Che nodded. "But I must first put my affairs in order here."

"Of course," Yu Xuzi inclined his head. "We shall await your arrival at the Blossom Palace."

With that, the four titans turned into streaks of light and shot into the sky, vanishing from sight.

Alone on the training ground, the atmosphere was heavy.

"One year..." Luo Jiayin murmured. "To think the calamity would be... the end of everything."

"Demon King Little Black... the World-Ending Bell..." Meng Qingcheng gripped her sword tightly. "This battle... will be a fight for our very lives."

Su Qingyao walked to Lin Che's side and took his hand. "No matter what lies ahead, we face it together."

Lin Che squeezed her hand, then looked at Luo Jiayin and Meng Qingcheng, a fierce determination in his eyes. "Together. We survived the 'Four Symbols Unification.' We can face this Demon King."

Luo Jiayin let out a shaky laugh, the tension easing slightly. "Always the joker, even now."

"I'm serious," Lin Che said, his expression turning grave. "He may be powerful, but he's just a madman who wants to take the world with him. And we... we have each other, and we have an unshakable resolve! One year is enough time to prepare."

He looked toward the horizon, his gaze piercing the distance. One year. It sounded like a long time, but it would pass in the blink of an eye. A battle for the fate of the world was about to begin.

And they... would be the pivotal variable in that battle.
