Recap
Shadow and Colonel successfully severed the Behemoth of Wrath's connection to the city's power grid, forcing the massive Spectre back into the Labyrinth. However, the catastrophic energy feedback completely overwhelmed Colonel's Shattered Echo, leaving him in a critical, ghostly state. The Maestro mocked their pyrrhic victory before vanishing into the ruined skyline of Neo-Tokyo.
The Dead Zone
Neo-Tokyo was unrecognizable. The Chiyoda Underground District had completely collapsed, leaving a massive, smoking crater right in the heart of the metropolis. The government officially declared martial law, throwing up immense, shimmering walls of Amber Aura Barriers to quarantine the area. Sirens wailed constantly in the distance, a bleak soundtrack to a city drowning in panic.
Inside the high-security intensive care wing of the Chrysalis, the atmosphere was even colder.
Shadow stood in front of a massive, reinforced holographic display, his white eyes reflecting rows of rapidly declining data streams. In the center of the room floated Colonel, suspended within a hyper-dense stasis field. His vibrant Crimson and Viridian Auras were entirely gone, replaced by a faint, fractured web of Ashen Gray energy that flitted across his body like dying embers.
The door hissed open, and Lieutenant Akane stepped inside, flanked by two high-ranking Warden Directors. Their Auras were a tense, rigid Deep Amber, radiating military finality.
"Kageyama Shiro," Akane spoke, her voice heavy with regret. "High Command has reviewed the diagnostics. Colonel's core is undergoing a Sub-Aura Cascade Failure. The Shattered Echo inside him is no longer contained."
"I am aware," Shadow replied without turning around. "His internal energy matrix is currently experiencing an exponential decay rate. I have already mapped the degradation."
One of the Directors stepped forward, his tone completely detached. "Then you understand the logical conclusion, boy. If his core fractures completely, the cumulative trauma of those hundreds of failed experimental souls will detonate. It will create a localized Grand Rift that will swallow the entire command sector. As of ten minutes ago, High Command has ordered the authorization of the Void Protocol."
Shadow's hands paused above the keyboard. "Define your parameters of the Void Protocol."
"We are going to inject a localized, permanent neural-dampening Weave into his brainstem," the Director stated coldly. "It will permanently erase his cognitive identity, leaving his body an empty, vegetative shell. It is the only way to ensure the Shattered Echo remains dormant forever."
The Cold Rejection
Shadow slowly turned around. His colorless Void Aura didn't flare with anger; instead, it grew unnervingly still, dropping the ambient temperature of the room by several degrees.
"Your mathematics are fundamentally flawed," Shadow said, his voice dropping into a chilling, absolute calm.
The Director frowned. "Watch your tongue, initiate. This is a calculated safety measure—"
"It is a poorly constructed equation based on fear, not logic," Shadow interrupted, stepping toward them. "Allow me to correct your thesis. If you erase his cognitive identity, you remove the only conscious variable currently keeping those hundreds of fractured souls compressed. The moment his ego dissolves, the Shattered Echo will instantly expand to fill the vacuum. Your 'Void Protocol' will not prevent a detonation; it will accelerate it by exactly 314 seconds."
The room fell dead silent. The Directors looked at each other, their rigid Amber Auras wavering with sudden doubt as Shadow's hyper-clocked intellect completely picked apart their strategy.
"Then what do you propose, Shiro?" Akane asked desperately, stepping between them. "He has less than twenty-four hours before the cascade becomes absolute."
Shadow looked back at Colonel's fading form. His mind had already bypassed standard Warden medical science, diving deep into the restricted, forbidden archives of the Echo Labyrinth.
"To stabilize a collapsing system, you cannot simply compress it from the outside," Shadow explained, his fingers flying across the terminal, bringing up a highly complex, forbidden Weaving matrix. "You must introduce a Perfect Constant directly into the core. I am going to perform a Core Tethering Protocol."
The Forbidden Journey
Akane's eyes widened in sheer horror. "Core Tethering? Shiro, that's an absolute taboo! That requires pulling a raw, uncorrupted Primal Echo from the deepest, uncharted layer of the Labyrinth—the Crystalline Core. No human mind has ever descended that deep and returned sane!"
Shadow adjusted the tactical gauntlets on his wrists, his expression completely unreadable.
"The probability of my cognitive survival during the descent is 14.6%," Shadow stated clinically, his white eyes glowing with an indomitable resolve. "However, the probability of Colonel's survival under your protocol is 0%. Therefore, my path remains the only logical choice."
Before the guards could react, Shadow slammed his hand onto the master override switch of the medical bay. His Void Aura violently surged into the security grid, instantly locking the heavily armored blast doors from the inside and cutting off the high command's remote access.
"Shiro! Open this door!" the Director yelled, his fist slamming against the reinforced glass.
Shadow ignored them. He walked over to the stasis field, placing his palm against the glass right next to Colonel's pale face.
"You carried me out of the Cascade, Colonel," Shadow whispered, his voice holding a rare, faint trace of emotion. "Now, I am going to rewrite your equation. Keep holding on."
Shadow closed his eyes, drawing his entire consciousness inward. He focused his hyper-clocked mind on the deepest, darkest frequencies of his own Void Aura, using it as a drill to pierce through the reality barrier.
With a silent, mental roar, Shadow's consciousness plunged straight down into the terrifying, uncharted depths of the Labyrinth, leaving his physical body standing rigid and breathless in the locked room.
