The ship. Morning fully settled.
---
Tenkai.
He was in the gravity chamber with his tea when he heard the portal close behind him.
He had come back from Uzomas's captured space in the night — before the dream, before any of it, slipping back onto the ship while the corridors were quiet.
The freeing had gone the way the calculation indicated it would.
Xen Tenkai's prison without Xen Tenkai's maintenance had been decaying at the anchor points exactly as predicted — the chains dimming, the black holes losing their rotation, the constructed space finding its structural limit.
He had located the decay and accelerated it.
The chains released.
The five of them emerged.
Uzomas first.
He had looked at Tenkai with the rotating blue eyes — not with anger, not with the demand for an explanation. With the specific quality of someone who had known, from the moment Tenkai told him the truth under the sakura tree, that this moment was coming.
**Uzomas :** "The Xen version."
**Tenkai :** "Gone."
**Uzomas :** "The real one."
**Tenkai :** "Alive. Moving forward."
Uzomas had breathed.
He had looked at the space where the prison had been.
He had nodded.
**Uzomas :** "Tell him we are here. When he needs us — we are here."
Blood Head had said nothing. He had straightened. That was sufficient.
Indra's extra eyes had appeared briefly — reading the situation, reading Tenkai, finding what they found — and disappeared.
Zailes had exhaled at a volume that communicated a very large amount without any specific words.
Syam had looked at Tenkai directly.
**Syam :** "My daughter."
**Tenkai :** "On the ship. Safe. She will come to you."
Syam had breathed.
He had nodded.
The nod of a father receiving the most important piece of information available.
Tenkai had come back through the portal and found the ship quiet.
He had gone to the gravity chamber.
He was sitting with the tea.
He thought about Uzomas saying we are here.
He thought about what it meant to have people who were here — not in the same space, not on the same ship, but here in the available universe, oriented in the same direction.
He thought about Piko.
He thought about the arm she had taken.
He breathed.
He was not going to make Wukong's old mistakes.
He was looking to the side.
He was finding what was there.
He picked up the tea and drank it.
---
The garden room.
Chara was at the flower.
The morning ritual — first thing, always first thing, the flower check before everything else.
She crouched beside it.
It had grown again.
The specific small growth of something doing what it was doing at its own pace without being hurried.
She touched one petal.
The necklace warm against her chest.
She thought about giving the flower to Kaizar. About the way he had taken it carefully, like something that mattered. About the smile.
She got up.
She went to find Charo.
---
The navigation room.
Charo was at the display when Chara came in and sat beside her.
They looked at the stars together.
The trajectory — ten days now.
**Chara :** "What do you think the Astral Dragon Clan is like."
**Charo :** "Old. Very old. The first branch — they have been themselves longer than any other clan."
She breathed.
**Charo :** "Old things that have been themselves for a long time have a specific quality."
**Chara :** "What quality."
**Charo :** "Patience. The patience of something that has been doing what it does long enough that the doing is simply what it is."
Chara looked at the stars.
**Chara :** "I am looking forward to seeing them."
Charo touched the necklaces.
**Charo :** "Yes."
One word. But the quality in it.
She returned to the navigation.
---
The common room.
Gyumi had made tea — the elven variety, the kind that smelled like the garden room at its best.
She set two cups on the table.
Kaizar came in.
He found the tea.
He found Gyumi.
He sat.
**Gyumi :** "I prayed for them this morning."
She said it the way she said things she needed to say.
**Gyumi :** "All of them. Fin. Yuki. Honokage. Blu. Muwa. Piko. Everyone."
Kaizar looked at his cup.
**Kaizar :** "Did it help."
Not a challenge. A genuine question.
**Gyumi :** "Yes. Not because it changes what happened. Because it says that what they were mattered. The saying of it matters."
Kaizar breathed.
He held the cup.
**Kaizar :** "Jena would have liked this ship."
He said it quietly with everything the flat was carrying.
Gyumi looked at him.
**Gyumi :** "Tell me something small about her."
She breathed.
**Gyumi :** "Something you remember that is just small."
Kaizar looked at the tea.
**Kaizar :** "She used to steal my food."
He said it flatly.
**Kaizar :** "Not from hunger. She just wanted what was on my plate specifically. Every time. Without asking. She would reach across and take the best part and look at me like I was being unreasonable."
Gyumi smiled.
The small genuine version.
**Gyumi :** "That sounds like someone who knew exactly what she wanted."
Kaizar breathed.
He almost smiled.
**Kaizar :** "Yes."
He breathed.
**Kaizar :** "That is exactly what she was."
They sat.
The tea between them.
The morning light of the ship.
---
Astra's room.
Later.
The tray mostly empty. The conversation warm. The three of them easy in the space together.
Then both of them moved at once.
Astria took his left arm.
Astro took his right.
**Astria :** "Games."
**Astro :** "Personal time."
**Astra :** "I need to train—"
**Astria :** "After games."
**Astro :** "After personal time."
He looked at the ceiling.
**Astra :** "Can we—"
**Astria :** "No."
**Astro :** "No."
He sighed — not from genuine reluctance, from the specific sigh of someone who was exactly where they wanted to be and was not going to say so.
They started pulling more decisively. He went nowhere because both directions were equally committed.
He laughed.
The genuine full version.
Astria looked at his face when he laughed.
She took his hand.
She leaned up.
She kissed his cheek.
Her arms around his neck, warm, the full committed quality of someone who had decided.
Astra's laugh stopped.
He breathed.
Astro saw it.
She breathed.
She looked at the window for one moment.
Then she leaned.
She kissed his other cheek.
Her arms around his neck from the other side.
Soft. Warm.
Astra breathed.
He breathed.
He breathed.
He swayed slightly — the specific gentle backward of someone whose center of balance had been negotiated away from them by two people simultaneously while also being kissed on both cheeks.
He went back onto the bed.
They went with him.
All three.
Astria laughed.
The full genuine laugh of hers — warm, unguarded, entirely herself. She was still laughing. She held his arm and laughed.
Astro looked at the ceiling.
She breathed.
She chuckled.
The small warm version — the specific chuckle of someone discovering that the normal scale of life contained things the divine life had not prepared her for and finding the gap genuinely funny.
Astria's head found his left shoulder.
Astro's head found his right.
Both of them settled.
Arms around him.
Astra looked at the ceiling.
He breathed.
He thought: I had a dream where everyone faded.
He breathed.
He thought: and I woke up to this.
He breathed.
The morning light on the window.
The stars outside still moving.
He breathed.
---
Footsteps in the corridor.
The purposeful kind — not fast, but carrying something.
Tenkai had left the gravity chamber. He had the news from Uzomas's space to deliver. He also had what Charo had flagged when he passed through the navigation room — a powerful energy signature perpendicular to the Astral Dragon Clan trajectory. Shadow and Dark Matter territory. Specific enough that even a brief reading communicated the level of whoever was there.
He came down the corridor.
He reached the room.
The door was open.
He looked in.
He stopped.
He breathed.
He breathed.
He breathed.
He was not going to think about what he was looking at.
He had looked once.
That had been sufficient.
He reached out.
He found the door.
He closed it.
The clean click of a door being closed by someone who had made a firm and final decision.
He stood in the corridor.
He breathed.
He breathed.
He looked at a specific point on the wall.
**Tenkai :** "I will come back."
He said it to the door.
Quietly.
**Tenkai :** "Later."
He breathed.
He turned.
He walked.
The specific walking of someone who had achieved the correct direction and was maintaining it.
He muttered.
**Tenkai :** "Twenty years."
He breathed.
**Tenkai :** "I go free five people from a cosmic prison and come back to—"
He breathed.
He breathed.
He breathed.
He turned the corner.
He was gone.
The corridor held the quiet of his departure.
The door closed.
The morning light of the ship.
The stars outside.
Ten days to the Astral Dragon Clan.
The Shadow and Dark Matter signal waiting.
Everything moving forward.
