"Wow! They're steamed buns!"
"Wow! There's meat!"
The children opened the paper packets in their hands and started shouting with excitement when they saw what was inside.
This commotion startled the mother and daughter who were chatting nearby.
"What are you all doing?" Li Yuanshan was also shocked to see what the children were holding.
"I gave them some of the leftover meat-filled buns," Yuan Si explained calmly.
"Th-those belong to your Little Aunt! No one is to touch them! Put them back!" Li Yuanshan stammered. She couldn't remember how many years it had been since she'd last eaten white flour steamed buns, or how long it had been since she'd even smelled meat. It felt like she had forgotten.
"What are you doing, as their mother? You're scaring the children." The old lady was displeased to see the kids stunned by their mother's yelling. "It's just a few buns. Little Si already said the children could have them, so let them eat. What are you making a fuss for?"
