Team Minato and Mukai came out of their stupor as they looked at Shunsui and asked, "What did you do?"
Their voices were filled with confusion and suspicion after the chaotic events that had just unfolded. Why did so many genins teams run after the Kiri genins?
Obito, Rin, and Mukai stared at Shunsui who had somehow made the enemies run without a fight.
Shunsui said, "I did not do anything. Did not you hear them? They were calling the Kiri genins cowards and thieves. Maybe they stole their money. I never thought that Kiri would stoop so low. What has the world come to?"
He spoke with such innocence that his words made the situation sound completely believable, as if the other teams had simply mistaken the Kiri genin for thieves and chased them on their own.
Obito and Mukai looked suspiciously at Shunsui. They could tell there was more to the story than he was letting on, but they could not prove anything right away.
Rin said sadly, "They took our flag. What are we going to do now?"
The loss of their main flag meant they would lose half their points even if they captured other flags. It was a big setback so early in the test.
Obito shouted as he went on his knees, "Nooo my chances of becoming a chunin!! How am I ever going to see and face Kakashi- baka again?" He clutched his head in grief, acting as if the lost flag was the end of the world for him.
Shunsui quipped, "Should not you be more worried about Rin right now...?" His words reminded Obito of what truly happened during the fight.
Obito realised that Rin had been brutally slapped by Zabuza. He immediately jumped towards Rin with deep concern on his face.
"Are you fine Rin? Does it hurt? I will kill that Kiri bastard just you wait. No one is allowed to touch you like that. I will make sure he regrets ever laying a hand on you. You are too kind and gentle for anyone to hurt you. Tell me if it still hurts. I will find some medicine or something right now," Obito said rapidly, his voice full of worry and protective anger.
He hovered around her, checking her face carefully while his own eyes showed genuine pain at seeing her injured.
"I am fine Obito..." Rin tried to assure Obito with a small smile despite the pain on her cheek. She appreciated his worry but did not want him to get too worked up.
Mukai said with a grim face, "Even if we capture a couple flags from other teams, losing our main flag means we would get only half the points of them. We would have to get much more flags to make up for it." His voice was serious as he calculated their chances for passing the test. The situation looked difficult after the attack from the Kiri team.
Shunsui thought about something and then
threw something at Mukai. Mukai caught them and looked in surprise at half a dozen flags in his hands. "You can have them. Our team has enough to pass the test," Shunsui said generously.
Mukai thought, 'He already has this many flags. The test just started a few hours ago. How did he get them so quickly from so many teams?' The Hyuga descendant was impressed and a bit shocked by how efficient Shunsui had been during the early part of the exam.
Then he remembered how the other teams were saying that the Kiri genins have stolen their flag. Mukai had a realisation struck him, 'Wait, he was the one that stole the flags? But how did he frame the kiri genins and more importantly how did he managed to steal them from so many teams when the forest of death is so vast?'
As Mukai held the flags with a thoughtful expression, Shunsui explained, "I am doing this for Konoha. You are Konoha genin after all, and we should help each other when we can. Besides the more Konoha genin that make to the next round, the better Konoha would look to the nobles and General audience."
He spoke in a relaxed way, making it sound like a simple act of teamwork.
He continued, "Besides how is Obito
supposed to defeat me like he promised if he does not even make it to the next round?"
At this Obito's expression brightened up, he was happy that Shunsui was looking forward to fight with him a glorious and epic battle.
"He would not even get the chance to lose to my flames of youth." Shunsui continued that immediately made Obito angry but he shut up for now.
Rin said while bowing as she nudged Obito to do the same, "Thank you Shunsui." Her voice was sincere and full of appreciation for the timely help.
Obito followed her lead and bowed as well, though his bow was a bit more energetic. "Shunsui, I will not forget your help. I will repay it to you someday," Obito said with determination.
"You want to repay me?" Shunsui asked with a small smile.
Obito nodded quickly. "Then repay me by bringing Kushina san to watch our matches. Maybe I will get to meet her," Shunsui said with clear interest in his voice.
Obito cursed under his breath, "Simp."
Shunsui then turned to Mukai. "Oh and you should not hold back in the next round like you were against the Kiri shinobi. I do not think Hyuga would do anything with you if you impress the crowd especially the various nobles present. The Hokage himself would do his best to protect you."
Mukai looked shocked at Shunsui knowing his most guarded secret. He asked while stuttering, "How... do you know.... that?" His voice showed real surprise and a bit of fear about his power being revealed.
Shunsui just winked before leaving towards his own teammates and flag territory.
