Obito, Rin, and Mukai were trying to make a plan for the long test ahead. Their red flag stood tall on its pole, clearly marked with their team name.
Obito looked determined as he spoke to Rin. "I should go Rin and look for flags," Obito said to Rin with confidence in his voice. He wanted to be useful and bring back points for the team by hunting other territories.
"Obito but..." Rin wanted to say something but could not find the right words at first. She looked worried about her teammate going off alone in such a dangerous forest full of strong enemies and wild animals.
"What Rin?" Obito asked, tilting his head with curiosity and a bit of worry. Rin did not know how to say this without hurting his feelings
. She cared about Obito a lot and did not want him to get hurt by rushing ahead alone. Mukai said straightforwardly instead of her, "She wants to tell you that you cannot get other flags by yourself."
"No. Rin believes in me. There is no way she thinks that. Tell him that Rin," Obito said with hope in his eyes. He turned to Rin expecting her to support him fully and prove Mukai wrong.
Rin looked embarrassedly at the grass, unable to meet his gaze as she stayed quiet. Obito took the critical hit as he looked in shock and grief.
"No Rin it cannot be..." His voice cracked with disappointment as he clutched his chest like he had been stabbed in the heart. His eyes then lit up with sudden realization. "Ah yes you are worrying about my safety Rin like always. Do not worry I would not go alone leaving you."
Mukai looked at his teammates for this chunin exams and could only sigh.
Mukai said ignoring Obito, "We should first check our surroundings, lay down the traps and check who all have their flags near us. We would protect our flag for the first two days and then attack others on the last day so that the others do not get much time to recover from their previous fights and they would be tired after fighting to get flags for the two days."
Obito though tried to argue. He did not like that Mukai was trying to dictate what their team should do. "Hey new guy, do not act as the leader of the team. You are just a little less annoying than Kakashi do you know that..."
Before Mukai could reply his eyes widened as he pushed Rin down and he himself twisted out of the way as a sword spun towards them and cut through the tree behind them before boomeranging back and going into the hands of a masked Kiri genin.
"Well well what do we have here. Little Konoha shinobi." Zabuza said as he swumg his sword as a warm up swing.
"You would make up as good targets to slaughter. But none of you is someone we recognise from the hit list that we got so that is a pity," Zabuza said as Kisame walked up to him next.
The two Kiri genin looked dangerous and ready for battle. Mukai took a stance and said with recognition, "Zabuza, the demon of the hidden mist."
Obito asked confused, "They call him the demon? He is not that scary..?" His voice showed genuine surprise at the title because Zabuza did not look as terrifying as the name suggested.
Zabuza chuckled so did Kisame at the naive comment. Mukai said with a grave face, "They call him a demon because in his promotion test to become a genin, he killed all his classmates."
Obito's reaction was horrifying as the words sank in. His face turned completely pale and his eyes widened in pure shock. He could not believe what he had just heard. "You did what? How could you do that to your friends? They were your classmates, people you trained and learned with every day. How can anyone kill their own friends just for a stupid test?"
Obito's voice shook with disbelief and growing anger. The idea of turning on your own comrades made his stomach turn and his heart hurt. He imagined his own academy friends and felt sick at the thought of hurting them.
"That is not how a shinobi should be. Friends are supposed to protect each other, not kill each other for some promotion," Obito continued, his voice rising with strong emotion.
Obito said, "Those who break the rules are scum, but those who abandon their friends are worse than scum." His voice was full of anger and disappointment as he stared directly at Zabuza.
Obito decided to act in anger. He weaved hand signs quickly and used Fire Style Fireball Jutsu.
A huge fireball rushed towards Zabuza and Kisame with great speed and heat. The flames lit up the dark forest area as it flew forward powerfully.
Kisame weaved a single hand sign and muttered, "Water Style Water Wall." He released a pressured stream of water that doused the approaching fireball easily.
The water met the fire with a loud hiss and turned it into steam quickly.
"Now it is my turn," Kisame said as he weaved hand signs.
"Water Style: Exploding Water Shock Wave."
Kisame gathered a huge amount of chakra then the entire ground swallowed up by a great volume of water that came from his mouth. A massive wave of water rushed toward the Konoha team with powerful force, threatening to sweep them away.
Obito and Rin looked at the horror at the approaching wave. The water looked like a towering wall ready to crush everything in its path.
Mukai started rotating at the quiet spot as he muttered under his breath, "Rotation."
The massive water wave was sent back as Mukai kept on spinning. The spinning defense pushed the water away in a powerful counter, diverting the surge back toward Kisame who looked in surprise at the approaching water as both he and Zabuza jumped out of the way.
The water crashed into trees behind them, breaking branches and flooding the ground with great force.
Obito was shocked to see the scene and he was about to praise Mukai when Zabuza appeared behind Obito as he kicked him hard.
The kick sent Obito flying forward with great force, pain shooting through his back as he hit the ground.
"Obito," Rin shouted in worry but Zabuza appeared next to her. Rin looked in horror at
Zabuza. So did Obito.
"Do not you dare hit Rin," Obito shouted as he got up quickly despite the pain. But Zabuza followed up with his attack and slapped Rin away. The hit was strong enough to send her tumbling to the ground with a cry of pain.
Obito shouted, "Nooo. You will pay for that!" His eyes changed to red. The anger inside Obito burned hotter than any fireball he could create.
He awakened his Sharingan.
