Caecus augmented the sheet in his hands.
Weeks had passed in a blur, and Titus still hadn't shown up. Neither did Amelia respond to his texts or calls. A few days ago he had stopped texting her already.
Ms. Selena had given it to him, and all other classmates of his. It was a plan on the order of the Trimester Exams.
Every three months Psychéion held exams in the elected and mandatory classes.
For Soul Forging, and Soul Engineering, they didn't have official exams but rather had to present their creations to the professors.
As for Duel Class, a one on one duel with their instructor would happen. The ones that performed well enough would be able to enter the multi-school competition, where they competed against other selected students from other schools.
This was an opportunity for the people who hadn't placed high in the rankings to get a name for themselves, and show their improvements.
'I don't think I need to worry too much about the theoretical classes.'
For soul control he solely had to show his progress, and since he reached manifestation stage, he thought it was enough.
'I never imagined the academy would be this easy.'
Technically it made sense, after all the students needed time to train themselves, after all when it came to being a Soul Cultivator, the best way to study was self study.
Now that he reached Manifestation Stage, his cultivation speed increased as well, so that was what he focused on right now.
Caecus sat up and walked towards the door, he would go into soul cultivation rooms, after all the ambience was the best for concentrating there.
After walking for a while, a room that was lit by candles, and had a soft flooring, appeared in his Wave-Sense.
Five people were all quietly sitting spread out through the room with their eyes closed.
Caecus searched for a good spot, then sat down and followed them, slowly reinforcing his Soul Core.
Calmly, he circulated his soul essence around his soul core, and assimilated it, repeating the step over and over again. Before he knew it, Caecus was already in a sort of flow-state, where his mind had already shut down, and he repeated the task subconsciously.
After finishing, he walked to the cafeteria and grabbed some food.
He had to enter the multi-school competition. Of that he was sure.
At first he hadn't cared about making a name for himself. But then he realized that Caelum would never support him just like that. He needed sponsors, and connections that'd support him in the future.
Now that he ate, he couldn't do any physical exercise, and neither had enough soul essence to do real effective soul cultivation, so he trained soul control.
On his bed, Caecus spread out his soul essence, the shapes forming waves. Over the past few weeks he had gained a little more insight about the nature of his concept.
He could now passively tell the colors things had, by automatically filtering the waves that his Wave-Sense apprehended.
Still, he hadn't noticed anything that would help him in the offensive. The black haired boy's concept wasn't concrete at all, it was one of the most abstract ones he personally had ever seen.
Nyx at least had clearly defined limitations, and things her innate ability could do.
Caecus... was weird.
But maybe, his concept wasn't meant to be necessarily offensive, maybe it was used to assist in the offensive.
He wanted to try something new. The blind boy always filtered out the smaller and bigger waves, but now he wanted to set the bar of his filter lower than light.
Dropping his focus on to shorter wavelengths, he noticed the increase energy, and the increased difficulty he had when telling the attributes of a certain wave.
Eventually he reached gamma waves, but that wasn't quite it.
He dug deeper.
And for a very long time there was nothing.
Quite literal vacuum, no waves.
Then when he hit the rock bottom of reality, he noticed something.
Probability.
He had met this before, probabilities were everywhere, and seemed endless.
Testing something out, he took out a coin. And flipped it.
Immediately, his wave sense picked something up. 50/50
It actually told him the chances of his coin landing on one side or not.
'But how would that— wait..."
Caecus took out his soul phone, and dialed Nyx's number.
After two rings, the Noctis heiress picked up.
"Yes?"
"I found something out with my concept, can I come over? I want to try something out during fighting."
"Sure!"
"Alright then see you."
"Mhm."
With a -beep- Caecus pressed the red button in the midst of his phone, ending the call.
Then he went on his way.
...
Now standing in Nyx's training hall, Caecus had a blade in his grasp.
Spreading out his Soul Waves, he gained apprehension about his surroundings.
"Attack me, but not too fast."
Nyx nodded, and dashed forward, swinging her blade without using soul essence.
That's when Caecus felt it. He could feel the probabilities of where she would aim her blade at.
'Seventy percent head, thirty torso... I'll take the gamble.'
When Nyx swung her sword, it ended up hitting the air, since Caecus dug down seemingly having predicted her strike.
"Did something change?"
"Y-yes I think so."
"Let's try with a real spar."
They seperated once again.
In a blur both of them vanished, and attacked each other.
Indeed it helped a lot. Caecus wasn't only able to tell the probabilities in the moment, no he was able to tell the probabilities of something happening in the future for example. That way he dodged as if he had foresight.
"You are reading all my moves perfectly. How did you do that?"
Caecus stayed silent.
This... this was something that may win him the entrance to the tournament.
"Hello?"
Suddenly Caecus felt the probability for a smack on his head increase by a lot, and he dodged backwards, Nyx's fist missing him.
"A-ah. Sorry I was lost in thought. My concept also seems to allow me to sense the probabilities of things."
"Probabilities? As in the chance I'll hit you in a certain spot?"
"Exactly that."
"That's... terryfying."
"Yeah... although it still seems like a gamble."
Nyx studied him silently, then responded.
"Because it is a gamble. If I can advise you one thing, it's not to trust on your ability too heavily. Even if something has a ninety percent chance of happening, the ten percent chance still would happen one out of ten times."
"...That makes sense..."
