Caecus slowly adjusted to employ his concept as the new means of sensing his surroundings.
He was currently in his room.
Titus and Nyx were gone, and didn't respond to his messages, and he hasn't seen any of them these past few days.
'What happened?'
Personally, he had been relentlessly training ever since he saw the example of strength from his sister.
Class was already over.
Stretching, he lengthened his legs, and then removed himself from his bed.
A little drowsy from the previous comfort, he let out a yawn, and then walked out, grabbing his soul phone on the way out.
The hallway, and school in general seemed amiss without his friends.
Empty.
When he reached the library, he sensed a few people, but chose to ignore them, simply walking over to the science section of it.
'Let's see.'
Not wanting to draw out attention, he refrained from using his concepts to browse, and touched a few books, augmenting them with his soul essence, until he found a book that matched his needs.
'Perfect.'
Quickly he slid it out of the shelf, and chose a quiet spot in the corner of the library.
Opposing his efforts, he felt a few stares on his neck.
'Seems like I really did a number on some of them during the tournament…'
Now comfortably seated, the cushioned metal stool beneath him, he started flipping through the pages of the book.
The electromagnetic spectrum
In the book there was a diagram showing the supposed electromagnetic spectrum, and how different wavelengths changed the wave.
'Visible Light' 380 to 750 nanometers in wavelength.
There was also a diagram showing the selective colors that came with each wavelength.
Caecus swallowed.
'I can sense the waves, and their properties around me… so in theory…'
You couldn't take a book out of the library, so Caecus quickly skimmed the entire book by touching all pages, and then wrote down anything that he deemed important on his soul phone.
With trembling fingers, he returned the book to its former spot, and then also returned to his room.
Now, seated on his bed, he cleared his mind.
Turning on his concept, he felt the passive effect that he ignored until now sophisticate.
On his soul phone he displayed an image of the color red.
He noted that the shorter the wavelength of the selective waves around him were, the harder it was for him to sense, or gain knowledge about them.
Discarding the bigger waves like radio waves, and the smaller ones like gamma rays, he focused on the ones which were in the frequency of light.
And indeed he felt them emanating from the Soul Phone.
As soon as he focused on them, he could guess which wavelength they had.
750 Nanometer.
The wavelength belonging to… red.
His face lit up, and without even noticing it, he dropped his phone.
A huge grin was on his face, and he felt something akin to a scientist discovering a new theory.
He was practically exuding excitement.
Putting a filter on his wave-sense, as he called it, he only focused on the ones belonging to visible light, and indeed he could tell what color things had.
'This… this is huge!'
Of course, he could not really see, but he knew which color something had, although he couldn't really picture the color in his mind.
'But… There are aura colors. If I sense the aura color, I know what the color looks like!'
…
Aurelia was sitting in her room, her desk in front of her.
Her obsidian eyes were fixated on the screen of her soul phone, having a contemplative edge behind them– a contrast to her usual taciturnity.
Remaining silent, she turned off the device, and put it face down on her desk.
A tension had built up in her jaw.
'I heard that they weren't able to cripple him during the tournament… but that? That isn't what I intended!'
Now that nobody was watching her, she bit the nail of her thumb.
And beneath her previously thoughtful gaze, there was now a hint of… guilt.
'If I cripple him now, it'll be too obvious. I already caused him enough pain.'
Standing up, she changed into a black shirt, and some sweatpants, and then opened the window fully.
Aurelia then stepped onto the rim, and jumped down while activating her concept.
Her room was on the sixteenth floor of her building.
But strangely, it was as if the space between her and the floor didn't exist, and she disappeared, reappearing right on the floor.
Landing gracefully, she brushed off her legs, and then proceeded forward.
It was afternoon now, and many students who were hanging out together were walking around.
Luckily for her, she knew how to make her presence vanish with ease.
After a few minutes of walking, she reached the cafeteria, and entered.
The air smelled aromatic.
It was warmer, and around fifty students were currently sitting, most of them chatting.
Her grip tightened around a tray, and she loaded food on it.
But when Aurelia finished browsing the buffet, she detected a familiar soul.
Sitting alone.
Stealthily, she approached, making sure to not be seen.
Her heart softened.
Caecus was dining solo.
'Nyx, and the Titanus heir don't seem to be here.'
This wasn't the first time this has happened, the past few days, when she was observing him, she noticed that they weren't with him once.
Aurelia's lips curved.
The black haired boy was wearing matching clothes with her, a black shirt and sweatpants. They really did look like twins at the moment.
Then, Aurelia… walked over and sat in front of him, placing her tray down gently.
Her concept was still activated.
The blind boy's expression didn't change a bit, nor did it seem like he even knew someone sat in front of him.
Silently, she also started eating, none of her sounds reaching Caecus' ears.
Her twin brother… or rather little brother based on physicality, grew up differently than she thought.
When she first saw him, her only thought was. 'Short.'
'Either it's because of the bad nutrition… or for the same reason he's blind.'
Her stealing nutrients in the womb.
Aurelia felt her chest tighten, and a lump formed in her throat, but she swallowed the latter down with her food, and ignored the former.
Disregarding his height, he was indeed good looking, but not in a way typical for the corpora.
'Frail.'
The typical 'good looking' boys of the corpora, all were tall, broad shouldered, and had masculine features, along with muscle.
Caecus seemed to break those standards.
He had long eyelashes, a small frame, was short, and didn't seem to have an exceptionally muscular physique. His facial features were soft, and things like a strong jaw weren't found.
'I think the way he looks fits his personality better though.'
Aurelia looked into his empty eyes, that seemed to stare into the nothingness.
She had been eating with him these past few days. What she noted was that Caecus seemed to have something akin to an addiction to chocolate.
Whenever he ate he would bring a bar of chocolate with him.
Now, on her own tray, there was a bar of chocolate too.
'Should I talk to him? Maybe I'll be able to convince him that he should go home.'
Continuing to eat her food, Aurelia apprehended that Caecus had finished his tray, and was now unwrapping the chocolate bar.
Rushle.
He put the wrapper on to his tray, and then broke off a piece, putting it into his mouth.
Caecus smiled as soon as the chocolate touched his tongue.
Aurelia shook her head.
'Truly addicted.'
Finishing her own tray, she took out her own bar, and unwrapped it as well.
The smell of cocoa filled the air, making her mouth water a little.
She took a bite, and was greeted by bliss.
Truly so good.
Suddenly Caecus froze up.
'What's wrong with him?'
That's when Aurelia noticed.
She had forgotten to keep her concept activated, distracted by the piece of chocolate.
"A-Aurelia?!" the blind boy's voice was filled with shock.
