Jay's POV:
"Kegain, you are not alone. I am here for you, okay? You can share all your problems with me. I know you don't like me, and it's okay, but you can trust me and share them because I can feel your pain. I am going through this too," I said.
"How?" he asked.
I closed my eyes for a moment, then looked at him.
"When I was 11 years old, Aries' real dad kidnapped us. He locked us in a basement and beat us so much. Even before the kidnapping, I was living with my mom and stepdad, who also used to beat me. Seeing blood always scared me, but when he kidnapped us and beat us... I don't know what happened to me that day. I just saw blood, and everything changed around me. I was no longer the same person. I hurt everyone after that," I said.
He looked at me with wide eyes.
"I always get nightmares about this... about my stepdad doing wrong things to me... and your brother is my comfort zone too. He always makes me feel safe," I said.
"I... I'm sorry," he whispered and looked down.
After a few seconds of silence, he suddenly stood up.
I think he needs some time.
He went toward his room and came back a few minutes later.
"Jay," he said.
I stood up and walked toward him.
"Here, take this... If something happens to me in the future, give this to Kuya..." he said, handing me a key.
"Why? If I take this, then it means I believe something might happen to you. No. Whatever it is, you have to tell your Kuya before it's too late. Kegain, I know you feel like a burden, and honestly, sometimes I feel the same too. I also think like that... but it's not true. Besides, Keifer is always worried about you. He always tells me he misses his old brother Kegain, who trusted him and shared things with him," I said.
He looked at me with shaking hands and teary eyes.
"He said that?" he asked.
I nodded.
"He always talks about you," I said and handed him a glass of water.
I made him sit on the chair.
"Kegain, I think you should take some rest... or do something to freshen your mind, okay?" I said and was about to leave, but he held my wrist.
"Please don't leave me alone. I can't face this alone anymore," he said.
I smiled and nodded.
But to my surprise, he suddenly hugged me.
I hugged him back, and after a few minutes, we were both sitting on the couch.
Awkward...
I looked at him, and it seemed like he was sleepy. His eyes were red, and he kept closing them while sitting.
I touched his head.
"Mmm..." Kegain hummed and opened his eyes.
"Lay down here," I said and placed his head on my lap.
He adjusted himself and quickly fell asleep.
I caressed his hair.
He looked so peaceful in his sleep...
His mouth was slightly open, and his innocent face...
No one knew how much he was suffering.
Just then, the door opened, and Kerein and Keifer entered, carrying so many bags.
"Oh! Why is Kuya Kegain sleeping like that? And did you forget me, Ate?" Kerein said and quickly came toward me.
He also rested his head on my lap, and I happily caressed his hair.
"Jay?" Keifer said, clearly asking for an explanation.
"Later," I said.
He nodded.
"Come on, Kerein. Go and wash your hands," Keifer said.
Kerein nodded and disappeared into the kitchen.
Keifer gently came toward us. He looked at Kegain, and a small smile appeared on his face.
He caressed his hair.
"Let me put him in his room," Keifer said.
I nodded.
Keifer scooped Kegain into his arms and took him to his room.
My eyes landed on the glass of juice.
I quickly picked it up and threw it away.
"Ate, I'm so hungry," Kerein said.
"Don't worry. I'm here, and I'll make something," I said and started cooking.
Then I felt someone's hands around my waist.
"Keif..." I whispered.
He kissed my neck.
"Baby, did something happen?" he asked.
I nodded.
"A lot... but I'll tell you after dinner. Wake Kegain up for dinner," I said.
He nodded.
He went to wake Kegain, and I arranged the table. Kerein helped me.
We both sat down and waited for Kegain to come.
Soon, they both came. Kegain still looked sleepy.
He looked at me, and our eyes met.
He quickly broke eye contact and sat down.
Almost the whole dinner was silent.
Mostly, Kerein was talking about his homework and school.
After dinner, Kerein and Kegain decided to sleep together, so they left.
Keifer and I entered our room.
I got under the blanket, and Keifer joined me.
He held my waist, and I rested my head on his chest.
For a few minutes, there was complete silence.
Then I broke it.
"We shared a lot together... about our trauma," I said.
"Did he share anything about his?" Keifer asked.
I shook my head.
"No, but I told him about mine, and he understood that he isn't alone. He even tried to give me a key and said that if something bad happened, I should give it to you. But I didn't take it. I told him he should give it to you himself and talk with you," I said.
I explained to him exactly what we talked about.
Keifer stayed silent for a moment.
I cupped his face and gave him a light kiss on the lips.
"Baby, don't worry. Everything is going to be okay," I said.
He nodded.
Then I thought of diverting his mind; otherwise, he would keep thinking about it.
So I removed my T-shirt.
His eyes went wide, and a smirk appeared on his lips.
"Yeah? Should we continue?" he said.
I nodded.
We both got under the blanket, giggling.
We started kissing each other.
Keifer came on top of me and started giving me soft, wet kisses.
Just then—
Bang! Bang!
Someone knocked on the door.
Keifer let out an annoyed sigh.
I quickly wore my T-shirt, and Kerein entered the room.
"I am gonna sleep with Ate," he said and climbed under the blanket.
"Why?" Keifer asked.
"'Cause she is mine," he said and wrapped his arm around me.
I chuckled and started caressing his hair.
"Kuya, go sleep with Kuya Kegain today. Me and Ate will sleep," he said.
Keifer let out another annoyed sigh before leaving.
"Ate, it's my plan," he said.
I looked at him.
"I knew something was wrong with Kuya Kegain. He and Kuya always fight and don't talk much. They don't spend time together like before, so I thought if they both sleep together, maybe they'll talk a little. Besides, today Kuya Kegain looked happy," he said.
I chuckled.
"You are so smart," I said and ruffled his hair.
"I know," he said and sat up.
He opened the drawer and took out some snacks.
"Let's enjoy," he said.
We both giggled and started eating.
