Chapter 159 - CHAPTER 160: TOO HONEST.

The rain continued softly outside.

Not loud anymore.

Just quiet enough to fill the silence between words.

The room smelled faintly like soap, paint, and citrus from the drugged juice sitting abandoned nearby.

And Ji-Ah was still trapped beside a half-conscious man who apparently lost all ability to filter his thoughts.

Ha-Joon lay against the pillows with heavy eyes half-open. Still holding lightly onto her sleeve.

Not tightly anymore. Just enough to keep her there.

Ji-Ah looked down at him suspiciously. "You're really clingy for someone emotionally constipated."

Slow blink. "…what."

"Nothing."

"You insult weirdly."

"You deserve it."

He looked at her for another long quiet second.

Then suddenly said softly "You came back."

Ji-Ah frowned slightly. "…obviously."

"You always do."

The way he said it made her chest tighten strangely.

Like it wasn't expectation. It was relief.

Ji-Ah looked away first. Because drugged Ha-Joon stared too honestly.

Normal Ha-Joon looked at people carefully. Controlled. Measured.

This version just looked at her openly. Like he forgot how to hide things.

"You should sleep."

"No."

"Yes."

"You'll disappear."

"I'm not disappearing."

"You do that too."

She paused. "…what does that mean."

Ha-Joon blinked slowly at the ceiling.

"When things hurt. You joke. You smile. And then you vanish somewhere."

Ji-Ah went quiet.

Because again he noticed. Of course he noticed.

"You talk too much for someone barely conscious," she muttered.

"You laugh less."

"…you already said that."

"You used to laugh louder."

The room fell silent again. And this time Ji-Ah didn't dodge it immediately.

She stared down at her hands quietly. "…people change."

Ha-Joon looked back at her slowly. "I don't like this version."

Ji-Ah snorted softly. "Rude."

"You look tired."

"So do you."

"You hide it worse."

Tiny sleepy smile again.

Ji-Ah hated that smile a little. Mostly because it made him look unfairly handsome.

"You know," she muttered softly, "tomorrow you're going to wake up and pretend none of this happened."

"No."

"Yes."

"No."

"You literally act allergic to emotions."

"Only around people."

"…that sentence makes zero sense."

His fingers shifted slightly against her sleeve. Still there. Still refusing to let go fully.

Then quietly "Not around you."

Ji-Ah froze completely. There it is again. That dangerous honesty.

"You're really drugged," she whispered.

"Mm."

"You know tomorrow you won't remember any of this right?"

He looked at her sleepily. "…maybe."

Ji-Ah stared at him for a moment.

Then sighed softly. Because maybe that was why her own walls loosened a little too.

Because this version of him wouldn't remember. Wouldn't hold her words carefully later.

Wouldn't analyze them.

Tomorrow cold composed Ha-Joon would return again.

So maybe… just this once…

"You scare me sometimes," she admitted quietly.

Ha-Joon blinked slowly. "…me?"

"You're too calm."

"That's scary?"

"You look at people like you already know how conversations end."

He watched her silently. So she kept going.

Because why stop now?

"And when you're nice," she muttered, "it's worse."

Tiny sleepy frown. "Why."

"Because then you say things like 'you matter more' and suddenly I forget how to function like a normal human being."

Very faint smile again.

Ji-Ah groaned immediately. "Stop doing that."

"Doing what."

"Looking at me like that."

"How."

"…soft."

The word came out embarrassingly quiet.

For once Ha-Joon didn't answer immediately. He just watched her. Sleepy. Warm. Honest.

Then softly "You're soft too."

Ji-Ah laughed once under her breath. "Absolutely not."

"You pretend to bite people emotionally."

"That's because people are annoying."

"But you still stay."

Silence again.

But gentler now.

Ji-Ah leaned back slightly in the chair beside the bed. "…you know what your problem is?"

"Hm?"

"You make people worry about you."

"You worry?"

"You got drugged by orange juice."

"That's fair."

"And somehow you're still arguing."

"You started it."

"You literally pulled me onto the bed!"

"You're comfortable."

Ji-Ah stared at him. "…that sounds illegal."

Tiny sleepy laugh again.

Real one.

Soft and low.

It startled her all over again.

Then suddenly his expression relaxed more.

Less teasing now.

More vulnerable. "You didn't leave me."

The words came quieter this time.

Almost childlike in their honesty.

Ji-Ah's chest hurt unexpectedly.

Because for a second he didn't sound like someone asking about tonight.

He sounded like someone talking about much more than that.

Her voice softened before she could stop it. "…I wasn't going to."

His eyes slowly lifted back toward hers.

And Ji-Ah smiled faintly.

Small.

Tired.

Real. "You're stuck with me for now, idiot."

That finally made him relax completely against the pillow.

Like some invisible tension finally loosened.

His eyes drifting shut slowly now.

Sleep finally winning.

But before fully falling asleep he murmured quietly "…good."

Ji-Ah looked at him for a long moment afterward.

Then gently brushed messy hair away from his forehead again.

Softly this time.

Without teasing.

Without arguing.

"…you better forget this tomorrow," she whispered. "But if you don't…"

She paused. Tiny smile appearing.

"…maybe that's okay too."

--

Nisa's room had somehow become the official family gathering room again.

Warm lights glowed softly.

Blankets everywhere.

Snacks half-open on the small table.

And Nikki asleep peacefully against Arisoo's side while she gently stroked his hair absentmindedly.

Meanwhile Yoo-Na was in the middle of emotional devastation.

Again. "I almost DIED."

"You stepped on poop," Min-Hyuk corrected calmly.

Yoo-Na pointed at him dramatically. "You weren't there."

"I wish I wasn't hearing this either."

Seo-Yeon smacked Min-Hyuk lightly without even looking at him. "Support her emotionally."

"I am."

"No you're not."

Nisa sat against the headboard holding her stomach protectively while trying very hard not to laugh.

Do-Hyun beside her nodded seriously like Yoo-Na was recounting war memories. "Yes. Very tragic."

"THANK YOU."

"She suffered greatly."

"EXACTLY."

Halmoni sat nearby sipping tea with suspicious enjoyment in her eyes. "What kind of poop was it."

Yoo-Na gasped in betrayal. "HALMONI."

"What? Details matter."

Arisoo buried her face into Nikki's hair trying not to laugh.

Even Seo-Yeon looked seconds away from collapsing.

Yoo-Na continued pacing dramatically in front of them all. "There were chickens everywhere."

"One chicken," Min-Hyuk muttered.

"It looked at me."

"Animals tend to do that."

"It knew I was vulnerable."

Do-Hyun nodded solemnly. "The countryside changes people."

"THANK YOU."

"She came back different," Nisa agreed seriously.

Yoo-Na looked emotional now.

Finally.

People understanding her suffering.

Then Min-Hyuk ruined it immediately. "You screamed loud enough to alert neighboring provinces."

Seo-Yeon burst into laughter instantly.

Yoo-Na looked deeply offended. "And Ji-Ah LAUGHED."

Everyone turned toward Nisa immediately because she was visibly shaking trying not to laugh too hard.

Do-Hyun gently rubbed her arm. "Careful."

"She laughed at me," Yoo-Na repeated emotionally.

Ji-Ah's voice suddenly came from the doorway: "Because you started negotiating with a cow."

Everyone turned immediately.

Ji-Ah stood there holding the envelope and papers from Min-Ji's parents. Hair slightly messy.

Expression tired. But oddly serious underneath it.

Yoo-Na pointed instantly. "THIS WOMAN ABANDONED ME TO NATURE."

Ji-Ah blinked flatly. "You survived."

"Barely."

"You're literally alive."

"Emotionally no."

The room laughed softly again.

But then they noticed Ji-Ah wasn't really smiling properly.

And slowly the mood shifted.

Nisa noticed first. "…Ji-Ah?"

Ji-Ah looked around at everyone staring now.

Then sighed once.

"…Min-Ji did something to Ha-Joon."

Silence.

Complete silence.

Even Yoo-Na stopped moving.

Min-Hyuk's expression changed instantly.

Seo-Yeon blinked sharply.

Do-Hyun sat up straighter immediately beside Nisa.

Halmoni slowly lowered her teacup.

Arisoo frowned deeply.

"…what."

Ji-Ah stepped farther into the room now.

"She put something in his juice."

Yoo-Na looked ready to commit crimes immediately. "I KNEW THAT WOMAN WAS INSANE."

Ji-Ah explained everything calmly. The juice.

Ha-Joon becoming drowsy.

Min-Ji hiding in the wardrobe.

All of it.

The more she spoke the darker everyone's expressions became.

Min-Hyuk looked genuinely furious now.

Not dramatic annoyed furious.

Cold furious. "That psycho drugged my brother?"

Seo-Yeon grabbed his wrist immediately because he already looked seconds away from walking out to start problems.

Do-Hyun's jaw tightened slowly. Beside him Nisa held her stomach unconsciously.

Protective instinct kicking in immediately.

"That's dangerous," she whispered softly.

"It's criminal," Seo-Yeon corrected.

Halmoni clicked her tongue sharply. "That girl is rotten."

Arisoo looked horrified. "She did that?"

Ji-Ah nodded once. "Yeah."

Yoo-Na stood up so fast the blanket nearly fell. "No."

Everyone looked at her.

Absolutely dangerous expression. "No no no."

She pointed toward the hallway dramatically. "That woman has exactly five seconds before I fight her."

"Yoo-Na," Seo-Yeon warned immediately.

"No because what do you MEAN she drugged him."

"She's insane," Min-Hyuk muttered.

"She HID in a wardrobe."

"That part disturbed me specifically," Ji-Ah admitted.

Do-Hyun rubbed his forehead slowly. "She's escalating."

"Yes," Ji-Ah answered quietly. "She was trying to take advantage."

That made the room go silent again.

Because they all understood immediately.

Rumors.

Scandal. Manipulation.

Yoo-Na scoffed instantly though. "So?"

Everyone looked at her.

She crossed her arms. "She can release whatever she wants. I'll expose her entire bloodline personally."

"Yoo-Na."

"I'm serious."

Nisa sighed softly. "But people believe scandals easily."

Ji-Ah nodded slightly. "That's the problem."

Then unexpectedly Halmoni spoke calmly: "She made one mistake."

Everyone looked toward her.

Halmoni's old eyes narrowed slightly over her teacup. "She underestimated how many people in this house hate her already."

Silence.

Then slowly Min-Hyuk smiled. Dangerous smile. "Oh."

Seo-Yeon looked worried immediately. "That expression means trouble."

"You're correct."

Arisoo carefully adjusted sleeping Nikki against her shoulder. "…does Ha-Joon know?"

Ji-Ah shook her head. "He was barely conscious."

"Is he okay?"

"He's sleeping now."

Do-Hyun exhaled slowly.

Then looked toward Ji-Ah carefully. "…and you?"

Ji-Ah blinked once. "What about me."

"You okay?"

The room grew quieter again.

Because suddenly everyone realized she handled that situation alone.

Calmly.

While someone had actively tried to ruin her.

Ji-Ah shrugged casually. "…I'm fine."

Yoo-Na pointed immediately. "She does that."

"Do what."

"That fake 'I'm fine' thing."

Ji-Ah looked offended. "I AM fine."

"You threatened a juice glass emotionally earlier."

"…it looked suspicious."

Tiny laughter spread through the room again.

Softening the tension slightly.

Then Yoo-Na suddenly grabbed Ji-Ah's wrist dramatically. "Come sleep in our room tonight."

Ji-Ah blinked. "Our?"

"Yes."

"There's already seven people here."

"We'll adjust."

Min-Hyuk looked around. "She's right actually."

Nisa laughed softly while leaning against Do-Hyun's shoulder.

And for the first time since entering Ji-Ah smiled properly again.

Small.

Tired.

But real.
