Alicia checked all the doors and windows on the first floor. Every window was covered by steel plate. She then took out a laptop which had the offline radar system installed. She sat in the first floor living room and checked nearby. The radar covered 100 meters around the house. She kept watch on the nearby moving dots.
When her eyes were focussed on the screen Kyle and Allister watched TV. Shawn was sleeping while Luke kept watch upstairs. Will was cooking.
While Allister moved his eyes. Sometimes he watched TV and sometimes Alicia.Kyle was changing channels when suddenly a news channel popped up. The anchor read.
"This broadcast is to hereby notify all citizens. A strange flu has been spreading around. Citizens are adviced to stay at home. If someone has a fever then they are adviced to quickly send them to the hospital. Any delay could be life threatning. People are adviced to stay calm and not to panic.... "
He changed the channel again. Another news showed a program with two specialists.
"Sir what do you think about this weather? "
The specialist said "This was completely unpredictable. Such an event has never occured in the last thousand years...."
The anchor cut him off with another question "Sir do you think that this flu is due to this weather? "
The specialist stopped for a second and said "The world is full of unknown causes and most of them are yet to be discovered...."
Alicia looked up at the TV.
The specialist continued "Man thinks he is almighty but he is still an ant in front of nature. But technology and science has advanced so we are trying and I think we will be able to find the cause soon....."
Alicia looked at them and smiled saying "With such little power he tries to fight nature. Overconfidence leads to death. "
Allister looked at her and their eyes met. He smiled with sarcasm and she sighed. She who had seen the true wrath of nature knew. If she wanted she could finish them all in a second. Nature gives life but it can also take it away.
She stood up and went to the second floor balcony. She saw the snow piling up. Her eyes moved from the radar to the snow. The snow kept pilling up. The world was white. The sky was cloudy.
Everyone was busy with their lives. Where no one saw in a small corner of the sky a silent storm rose. The dark sky suddenly lit up and they fell.
The sky was on fire. The shooting stars created a beautiful scene. The people saw this and found new hope. But the world had already changed. Those who were meant to sleep fell asleep and those meant to face hell enjoyed the view.
Alicia stayed still and watched the scene. The beauty unfolded in its own way. As if the creator was dancing and laughing at the self proclaimed self creation, humans. Only nature could show such a beauty before destruction.
When a sound came from behind "It's pretty, isn't it? "
"It is indeed. " She smiled sadly and added "But what's bound to happen will happen. "
"Yes that's the sad part... " Allister came forward and sat down on her lap.
Alicia became a little unprepared and looked at his side face. It lit up from the shooting stars. Her hands went ahead and held his waist from the back. She slowly pulled him into her arms. Allister smiled and fell back completely laying on her. He looked at him and said "Change will happen. This change is scary but it's not in our hands to stop it. We are powerless in this case. And since nothing can't be changed then what matters is to stay safe and together. "
He stopped for a second and added "I can't say for you but... " he looked at her and said "I'm happy to die with you. "
Her eyes widened. She held him tightly to her chest and put her forehead on his neck. She silently said "We will survive and die naturally I promise. "
Both remained silent and watched the scene till the end. When suddenly Alicia's phone rang. It was Mrs. Miller.
