Aside from one human, Rick—the slaves consists of 3 elves, 6 kobolds, and a dryad.
They all decided to follow Verc, including Rick.
In the first place, they're too scared of Verc to reject his offer. And also— a village with a lot of non-humans living peacefully was something that attracted them.
