Lina's POV
A slow, humorless chuckle escaped my throat, sounding hollow against the freezing stone walls as soon as Seris was gone.
In my past life, I would have curled up right here on the floor and broken apart. I would have spent weeks begging for answers, desperately wondering what I had done wrong to deserve a family that despised my very existence. But I wasn't that pathetic, naive girl anymore. I had already died a miserable death once. I wasn't about to let Seris write the script for my second life.
If that malicious witch wanted to play a dirty game of manipulation, fine. But she was wrong to think I wouldn't fight back, and I sure as hell wasn't going to sit around acting like a victim.
I took a slow, deep breath, forcing the remaining tremor out of my hands. I straightened my posture and smoothed down the front of my best dress with steady, deliberate movements.
