Thin wisps of black smoke rose from the fractures in Madra's bones, as if the holy energy was burning away the deathly aura holding him together. The crimson glow within his skull flickered violently, unstable.
The flickering in Madra's eye sockets suddenly stopped.
For a brief, eerie moment, the battlefield fell silent.
Then the crimson flames inside his skull dimmed… before flaring back to life—darker and deeper than before.
"…Heh."
A hollow chuckle echoed as cracks spread across his bones. The fractures didn't heal; instead, strands of black energy stitched through them like veins, forcibly holding his body together. The holy power eating away at him was pushed back by a denser, more sinister aura.
Alan narrowed his eyes. That's not regeneration… he's stabilizing himself by force.
Madra straightened slowly, no longer trembling.
"You really are… a perfect successor," he said, his voice layered and distorted.
A wave of dark energy spread from his body. The ground beneath him decayed into brittle fragments as black mist seeped into the surroundings. Alan felt an oppressive pressure closing in from all sides.
"…So this is your next phase," Alan muttered.
Madra raised his sword. The blade trembled, barely able to contain the overwhelming power surging through his skeletal arm.
"I really want to fight you properly now alas this body," Madra said. "I will not regret it even if I die now."
BOOM—
He vanished.
No—he erased the distance.
Alan twisted his body just in time—
CLANG!
Their swords collided with a thunderous impact, sending a shockwave tearing across the battlefield.
Alan's arm trembled.He's stronger now…
But the cost was immediate.
Crack!
Madra's arm fractured further from the collision, bone splintering at the joint.
Alan saw it—and smiled faintly.
Got you.
He pressed forward without hesitation. His sword flashed repeatedly, each strike aimed not to overpower, but to break.
Clang! Clang! Clang!
Every clash spread more fractures across Madra's skeletal frame. Every block worsened his condition. Still, Madra didn't retreat.
He laughed instead.
"HAHA! YES! THIS IS IT!"
Another violent clash sent both of them sliding apart.
Alan steadied himself with his blade, while Madra remained standing—barely. His ribcage was partially collapsed, one arm hanging lower, yet the crimson flames in his eyes burned brighter than ever.
"…You see it, don't you?" Madra said.
Alan stayed silent.
"…Good."
Madra raised his sword one last time. This time, a dangerous energy began to gather around him—not expanding, but collapsing inward.
Alan's expression changed as he easily understood why Madra earlier said he will not regret it.
Self-destruction phase.
"Then survive this… successor," Madra whispered.
The energy compressed into a single point—
And then exploded outward.
The world turned white.
For a fraction of a second—
There was no sound.
No movement.
Only light.
Then—
BOOOOOOOOM!!!
The explosion swallowed everything.
The ground disintegrated instantly, layers of earth collapsing as a massive shockwave tore outward in all directions. The air itself ruptured, space warping under the sheer density of the blast.
Alan's eyes widened.
Too fast—!
[You have suffered 129,789,564 damage.]
[Your health has reached the minimum.]
[You have entered the Immortality state.]
As the dust settled, Alan's condition was revealed. He was injured from head to toe, blood covering his entire body.
"Haah… I didn't think you would try to defeat me this way," Alan said, looking at Madra.
Madra wasn't spared either. His entire skeletal body was full of cracks, barely holding together.
"So, what do you think now? This is the true fight. Now that you have lost your immortality, we can fight properly," Madra said.
Alan nodded.
No wonder this guy was also called a great tactician, Alan thought. Madra knew that even if he kept fighting, with my passive immortality, he might not be able to kill me. So he lured me into that self-destruction trap.
But you calculated one thing wrong, Alan thought.
My status as a legend has evolved…
And now, my immortality duration is 7.5 seconds instead of the usual 5 seconds.
No one knows about it.
Five seconds passed.
Madra moved instantly.
BOOM—
He appeared in front of Alan and swung his sword down without hesitation.
Slash!
Alan on the other hand didn't bothered to dodge as he attacked too.
Madra's hollow eyes flickered.
"…Are you going to use the self harm tactic too?" he asked coldly, assuming Alan plan to fight while exchanging injuries.
His gaze dimmed slightly.
Since he was a Death Knight, endurance wasn't his weakness. Even though his body was on the verge of collapse, he could still outlast most opponents. He can even easily outlast Alan too, so in his eyes Alan's current tactic is useless.
"…I see. You have grown confident I need to teach you a lesson," Madra muttered.
"Then I'll end it properly."
Dark energy surged violently.
Madra raised his sword once more.
"300,000 Army Massacre Sword."
The moment he activated it—
Crack!
His entire right body fractured further.
His right arm nearly shattered, bones breaking apart under the strain. Even so, he forced the technique forward, convinced that Alan's immortality had already ended.
The attack descended—
But—
No damage appeared.
Madra froze.
"…What?"
Alan stood there.
Unharmed.
Completely still.
"My status as a legend… is at a higher level," Alan said calmly.
Madra's crimson eyes widened—
Then—
He laughed.
"...Hahaha…"
The sword slipped from his hand, falling to the ground.
His body, already at its limit, began to collapse piece by piece.
"I see…"
"…So this is how it ends."
The crimson flames in his eyes flickered gently now.
"I'm glad…"
His voice softened, losing its earlier madness.
"After so many years… a Death Knight like me will end like this…"
His gaze remained fixed on Alan.
"…Being defeated by my own successor… there is no greater end."
His body crumbled further.
Bone turned to dust.
The crimson light faded slowly.
"…You did well."
And then—
Madra collapsed completely.
Silence returned.
