Grey POV
I ignored him.
Coaxing Chase out of that tavern was like herding a drunk, stubborn bear. But eventually, I got him moving.
He made it outside the stinking building before he started hurling words at me.
"I shouldn't have come after you that day." He said it to himself more than to me. "I shouldn't have been in the gullet"
"Well." I dragged his drunk ass further away from the door. "No one asked you to come after me, Chase. No one did."
I tried to keep the anger out of my voice. But talking about that blasted day brought out the worst in all of us. It put him in the wheelchair, but it took everything else from me.
"I shouldn't have come after you that day." He said it louder this time "I shouldn't have. No. No. No. That dragonian spike should be in your spine not mine. I shouldn't be in this stupid chair"
I simply lost it.
