Chloe slowly open her eyes, the biting cold pulled her from deep sleep, despite she and Rin using cloths and towel as a makeshift blanket, the freezing floor and chilly spring night still enough to freeze her down to the bone.
"It's too fucking cold"
Her body shiver uncontrollably, the thin blanket could barely hold her body. Chloe looks around searching for anything that can warmth her before her vision stop at Rin, who still sleep comfortably. Every movement felt sluggish, it was as if she was walking in pool, she gave up trying to stand instead she slowly make her way by crawling towards Rin's side before slipping beneath the blanket and wrapping her arms around her.
Warm.
An undescribed smile plastered her faces as she felt her frozen body slowly thaw. She snuggle more, her face buried on Rin's neck and she can smell a faint fruity scent coming out of Rin, she can feel herself slowly melting and about to arrive at dream land.
*Thud! Thud!
The violent pounding startled her almost making her jump and shattered her dazed moment.
But Chloe didn't move she froze, not daring to make any sound as she didn't want to alert the creature outside.
Only thin door and heavy locker separate the two of them, Good thing they already shoved a heavy locker behind the door and jammed it shut with whatever thing they could find. Despite not look much at least it's better than just a lock.
Her bloodshot eyes locked onto the door before slowly drifting at their steel pipe near the door, she exhaled getting ready to jump into action.
Then-
The world fell silent again, as if everything that happened is had been nothing but an auditory hallucination.
But she couldn't drop her guard down, she strained her eyes, bracing for a second wave of pounding or worse, but her body had finally reach its limit. Adrenaline faded and a weight of exhaustion crush her, her eyelids grew heavy as lead.
'Please let this be just a hallucination,' Chloe prayed, hoping the exhaustion playing tricks on her and tomorrow— nothing will happen to them. She finally drifted into deep sleep.
Rin slowly open her eyes before squeezing it shut again. As beam of light flash her eyes everytime she tries to open her eyes but at the same time she can't move her body.
"Heavy..." She frowned, her voice muffled and something heavy was lying across her chest. She tried to nudge it away but it clung her like glue. She looks down only to find a tangled hair after squinting her eyes for few times, Rin finally realize the culprit. For a moment she was torn between pushing Chloe away or just let her.
Then a metallic scent hit her the stench of iron and dried blood combined with sweat makes her dizzy.
"uogh!"
In a split moment Rin kicked Chloe away, a quick swift move freeing her from Chloe grip and odor while sending her away.
"Are you picking a fight!" Chloe shouted, grimacing in pain while holding her stomach.
"You are the one who smell like dog"
"You can just wake me up instead of kick me"
"There is no way I will touch you with my clean hand"
"But you already dirty" Chloe argued.
"My body is sticky because a certain idiot used me as a mattress" Rin grumbled
The morning passed slowly. Every muscle in their bodies ached from yesterday fight, so they opted on doing yoga mostly Chloe since Rin have zero experience on workout.
"Do you think the other made it?"
"Awwawaw... They must, if they want to see us again"
"hmmmm"
"Why are you getting heavier"
Currently Chloe was sitting on Rin's helping her on forward fold stretch, while pondering she unconsciously let her full body weight on Rin's making both of them fall.
"I think I broke my spine"
"You're really unflexible, it's only toe touching atleast try touch your calf"
The sun raise higher at this point with both of them finish stretching, the first on to stop is Rin's who still catching her breath despite finish earlier, Chloe shifted sitting right beside Rin, her shoulder brushing against Rin's as they begun sharing protein bar.
"What a fun morning" Chloe tease Rin.
"It's not—and stop sticking to me, go wash yourself, you smell like a wet dog" Rin protest while pushing Chloe away. "Stop sticking to me, why did you keep doing this?"
"Because it's fun to annoyed you. Besides, there are no pesky people around us. Right?" Chloe move boldly she is getting closer her nose stick on Rin's nape while she push her chest on Rin's body as if Chloe trying to mark her.
"I called it BS. Stop clinging onto me and go wash yourself!"
Finally, Rin able to force Chloe to wipe herself. Despite all the back and forth, Rin's finally able to make sure Chloe wipe herself clean.
Now that it was taken care, I should check all the locker last time we just skimmed it through, who knows if we can salvage anything, most of our item is broken and there still an hours amount of walk to reach the outdoor supplies, now that it already become their second base.
"What are you thinking?" Chloe who just finished wiping her body comes out, her body barely covered with anything and combined with a slight wet skin makes her glistening.
Her eyes scanned at their clothes and equipment "I don't think we can use any of that"
"yeah"
Their makeshift armor from magazine has been broken beyond decimation even if they want to use it, it probably gonna flail around and distract them. Their metal pipe was bend and Chloe backpack has teeth stuck on it.
"It's not gonna fly, why don't we check for anything usable first in this office and return later?"
Rin's ponder at Chloe suggestion but at the same time if they did that they return any later they might get worried about them.
"Who cares about their opinion, it's not like we need them we can always cut them off" Chloe commented perfectly reading Rin's mind.
Rin gives small tap on Gina forehead "Things will get worse you know and it will be tough for the four of us."
"But you know dead weight gets people killed" Chloe whispered coldly. "Not everyone deserve it".
She gently patted Chloe's head.
"But you still stayed behind with me to lure the horde away"
Chloe didn't respond. A complex thought tangled in her mind. Instead of arguing, she simply closed her eyes, tightening her grip.
"Ohhh I think, I see smoke coming out from your head"
"Well overthinking is not my forte, so I leave it to you" Chloe finally murmured
"Aren't trying to become smooth talker"
"I'm—oh the wise and dumbass Rin's might you drop your wisdom." Chloe played theatrically
"What is that connotation, well I don't really have a plan. You see if you ask me yesterday, me and Gina actually planning to geta bike or car and escape to Gina villa's. Well that's the first idea. But, you know there is a threat everywhere. I mean it's only 2 days we go near the center and we already see 3 monster beyond us"
"They just keep popping everywhere"
Rin grumble, she want to called the admin for not balance fight, it's only been 8 days since the apocalypse happen and now there is mutant. there should be the limit right or is it superpower apocalypse.
"Maybe it's superpower apocalypse"
"System," Chloe shout into thin air. "Guess not." She shrugged.
"Maybe there is a trick to unlock it."
Rin stared at her holding her laugh.
"no...no no I already try it yesterday before going to bed, you look so dumb and out of character"
"You—"
Chloe who didn't take it as funny suddenly pounce at Rin, pinning her to the floor
"If you know, you should told me already"
"Wait! hahaha....Stop... stop tickling me" Rin gasped, squirming beneath her,
"This is your punishment Rin take it" Chloe grinned as she mercilessly attacked Rin's side, tickling her without mercy.
