Chapter 116 - Chapter 105: The Fear Closet, The Red Eye, and The Golden Light

[ Location: The Great Hall ][ Date: September 3rd, 1993 - Thursday ]

Draco Malfoy spent the entire day whining.

He sat at the Slytherin table with his arm wrapped up like a mummy, complaining loud enough for the whole room to hear.

"Madam Pomfrey said I could lose my arm!" Malfoy faked a dramatic sigh. "I can't even do my homework. It's a tragedy."

"It's a scratch from a giant chicken, Malfoy," I called out from the Gryffindor table, not even looking up from my bacon. "Put a band-aid on it and shut up. I'm trying to eat."

Malfoy glared at me, his pale face turning pink , So he decided to switch targets and sneered at Harry.

"If it was me, Potter," Malfoy said loudly, "I'd hunt Sirius Black down myself but I guess you're too busy hiding."

Harry looked down at his plate ,his fists clenched tight.

He was taking the bait perfectly.

"Harry, look at him," I said, pointing my fork at Malfoy. "He's faking a cast because a bird beat him up are you really going to let a crybaby tell you how to live your life? Eat your eggs."

After lunch, we walked into Professor Lupin's class.

We were in the staffroom.

In the middle of the floor sat an old, rattling wardrobe and it was shaking violently, like something inside wanted out.

"Inside is a Boggart," Lupin explained. "It takes the shape of whatever scares you the most. But the spell to beat it is simple but it requires a good laugh."

Lupin pulled out his wand. "The spell is Riddikulus. Just imagine the monster looking stupid, say the word, and it loses its power."

Neville Longbottom went first.

Lupin unlocked the wardrobe.

The doors flew open and professor Snape stepped out, glaring right at Neville.

Neville panicked for a second, then yelled the spell. "Riddikulus!"

CRACK.

Suddenly, "Snape" was wearing a long green dress and a massive hat with a stuffed vulture on it.

The entire class cracked up.

Even I chuckled.

Snape in a dress was hilarious.

"Excellent, Neville! Next! Harry!" Lupin called out.

Harry stepped up, gripping his wand tight.

The Boggart spun like a top.

It blurred, shifting from a giant spider to a severed hand, and then... the room went freezing cold.

Our breath turned to white clouds.

A Dementor floated out of the wardrobe.

It took a rattling, rotting breath.

Harry froze and his eyes went wide with pure terror.

His wand arm dropped.

Lupin panicked and jumped forward to block Harry.

But I was closer and faster.

I stepped right in front of Harry, completely blocking the Boggart's view.

'I've got this,' I thought arrogantly. 'I'll just drop my mental shields for one second and let it see the Murder Clown in my head. It'll get so scared it'll probably pop.'

I lowered my mental walls and stared right into the Boggart's faceless hood.

"Boo," I whispered.

It was the biggest mistake of my life.

The Boggart made eye contact with me and it didn't just see Pennywise.

It looked way past the Clown.

It looked deep into the cosmic scars left on my soul by the Abyss.

SNAP.

The Boggart stopped looking like a Dementor.

It started to glitch.

It grew instantly, hitting the ceiling.

The wood of the wardrobe shattered into a million splinters and the creature couldn't handle what it was seeing.

It flipped through a Demogorgon, the Mind Flayer, a giant vampire...

And then, it dug too deep.

The Boggart turned into an absolute, towering black shadow.

The stone walls of the staffroom seemed to melt away.

Suddenly, the blue sky outside the Hogwarts windows turned blood red.

"What is happening?!" Ron yelled, falling backward onto the floor.

The entire castle shook. It felt like a massive earthquake. The thick stone walls cracked. Students screamed, dropping to the floor and covering their heads.

Lupin stumbled backward, looking absolutely terrified.

Outside, the red clouds ripped open.

A massive, burning Red Eye appeared in the sky and it was bigger than the sun.

It looked down at the world with pure, absolute hatred.

The Crimson King.

My breath caught in my throat.

The gravity was so heavy I couldn't even blink.

"YOU ABSOLUTE IDIOT!" Pennywise shrieked inside my head.

The Murder Clown was completely panicking. "YOU OPENED THE FRONT DOOR! That is a cosmic Entity! If you even think of His shape, He looks right back at you! CLOSE IT!"

I stared at the Red Eye.

The Boggart in front of me was screaming, literally tearing its own fake body apart trying to hold the physical shape of a real Outer God.

Every single creature on Earth felt it.

The Dementors guarding the school gates shrieked in terror and fled into the Forbidden Forest.

The Giant Squid dove to the absolute bottom of the Black Lake.

The Eye blinked. It was going to burn the planet to ash.

Before the Red Eye could fully manifest, the sky split open again.

A massive, blinding beam of Golden Light shot down from the heavens. It was magic, So powerful.

It covered the entire world in a flash of gold.

The light hit the Red Eye directly.

The Eye glared, looking annoyed at the sudden interference.

Then the red sky shattered like thin glass.

The normal, cloudy blue sky of Scotland returned instantly.

In the staffroom, the Golden Light hit the Boggart.

POP!

The Boggart couldn't handle the clashing cosmic energies.

It exploded into a cloud of harmless white smoke, leaving nothing behind but a scorch mark on the floor.

The earthquake stopped and the castle was dead quiet.

I stood there, my heart hammering against my ribs like a jackhammer.

Hot blood was pouring out of my nose.

Lupin was on his knees, staring at me in total horror.

Harry, Ron, and Hermione were huddled under a desk, shaking like leaves.

"Vivan..." Lupin gasped, his wand trembling. "What... what was that?"

I wiped the blood off my chin, trying to act like my soul hadn't just almost left my body.

"Class dismissed," Lupin croaked.

The Golden Light and the Red Eye didn't just happen at Hogwarts.

It happened everywhere.

In London, Muggle news stations were going crazy, reporting a massive red storm and a global earthquake that lasted exactly ten seconds.

Deep inside the Ministry of Magic, the Minister dropped his expensive teacup.

The secret agents in the Department of Mysteries ran frantically around their dark rooms, their magical instruments exploding.

At Malfoy Manor, Lucius Malfoy fell to his knees, clutching his faded dark mark, absolutely convinced the Dark Lord had returned as a God.

And high up in his office, Albus Dumbledore stood by his window and his silver instruments were smoking and sparking.

He looked at the sky, his eyes completely missing their usual happy twinkle.

'What in Merlin's name was that?' Dumbledore thought, gripping his wand tight. 'And how do we survive it?'

I walked out of the classroom, my hands stuffed deep in my pockets to hide how badly they were shaking.

"Do not ever do that again," Pennywise hissed weakly in my mind.

'Message received, Bozo,' I thought, taking a deep breath to steady my racing heart. 'Note to self: The magic fear-closet is strictly off-limits.'
