Chapter 4 - They Chose to Become Heroes (Revised)

Paimon: "Navia!"

Navia crouched on the ground: "Melus and Silver... they're never coming back. What... what am I supposed to do?"

"Father, what am I supposed to do?"

Lumine and Paimon's expressions grew heavy.

Navia: "The rescue plan was one we all agreed upon, but in the end, I was the one who set it in motion. They stayed too late helping the residents who needed to evacuate... and just like that, they were swallowed by the seawater."

Paimon (urgently): "We... we should do something!"

Navia wept: "I've known them for so long... I know they wouldn't fear such things. But... but even Father, I could at least recover his remains and hold a funeral. But Melus and Silver are completely... I just can't accept it."

[Navia, watching in the live broadcast room, could no longer hold back her tears. The others watching seemed to be thinking of something as well.]

[Yae Miko: Lady Saiguu... I've grown up.]

[Kaedehara Kazuha: Your wish will come true.]

[Zhongli: I long to buy osmanthus wine to share with companions, but when will I ever see those old friends again?]

[Venti lowered his head as well, as if reminiscing about something.]

The live feed turned black-and-white. In the memory, Navia had brought Melus and Silver to the cemetery.

Melus: "After the rain, everything looks so clean, even a cemetery. Hard to believe, but standing before Mr. Callas's grave, I feel like having a glass of red wine."

Silver: "I understand. It's not that the scenery here is bad."

Navia: "Who doesn't feel the same? Whenever I visit Father, I always want to bring something. Maybe even a little picnic. He wouldn't be angry, would he?"

Melus: "Rest assured, the Master would never be angry with you, my lady... But a cemetery is a home of sorts after death, isn't it? No matter who we are, we all end up here sooner or later."

Silver turned his head: "Don't tell me you're thinking of buying a plot in advance."

Melus: "Haha, no need. When I pass on, I'd hope the young lady would agree to bury me beside the Master."

Navia: "What are you saying?"

Melus: "I'm not joking. That way, my lady, when you come to visit the Master's grave, you can stop by and see me too."

Silver: "Well said. In that case, I'll take the Master's other side."

Melus: "Setting aside the young lady, I suppose the two of us could be considered the Master's right and left hands?"

Silver: "I think we're quite worthy of that title."

Navia: "Hahaha, why are you suddenly talking about this? And what do you mean 'stop by'? The two of you are worth me making a trip all on your own."

[Ningguang: Both of them faced death with such optimism. I believe there was no fear in their hearts at that moment.]

[Keqing: I think so too.]

[Yae Miko: A flashback. This is absolutely a flashback.]

[The Knave: Melus and Silver dissolved in the water. I wonder if the Hydro Archon has the power to restore them? (@Furina)]

[Furina: But of course. I am an all-powerful god. Nothing is beyond me. In the foreseeable future, I will save everything! (laughing)]

[Navia: That... that would be wonderful!]

Lumine and Paimon comforted Navia. Navia handed Lumine the casualty list.

Paimon looked at the list and quietly read it aloud: "...Obner, Cannes, Bernette, Giverny... and Melus and Silver."

"This... looks like..."

Navia: "Indeed, the casualties were lower than expected. But as the price, we lost Melus and Silver."

"...From a results perspective, that should be a good thing."

Paimon retorted: "You mustn't think like that. One person saving another is a fact, but leaving and returning can never be called an exchange. Melus and Silver weren't the price paid to save anyone—they became heroes."

Navia: "Thank you, Paimon."

[Arataki Itto: Yeah, they're heroes! Didn't think Paimon could say something so profound.]

[Ningguang: Little Paimon seems to be glowing.]

[Keqing: I have to write this down. They weren't a price—they were heroes.]

[Jean: Salute to the heroes.]

[Zhongli: Even stone has a heart, let alone humans.]

[Klee: When Klee grows up, Klee wants to be a hero too! (Acting Grand Master Jean pats her head)]

"I see a few days apart have done wonders for your eloquence, Paimon." The Knave's figure appeared behind them.

Paimon was startled: "The Knave, what are you doing here?"

Navia looked at the Knave: "Hello. Is everything going smoothly?"

The Knave: "Yes. My people carried out the operation according to Lady Navia's instructions. The residents of Poisson have all been rescued and are currently being evacuated to higher ground. As for supplies, you needn't worry, my lady. Everything is prepared."

Navia: "Thank you very much."

[Charlotte: The Fatui... are helping with disaster relief?]

[The Knave: Though I serve the Tsaritsa, I am still a Fontainian. Is there something wrong with helping Fontaine?]

[Lyney: Father has spent a very, very long time preparing for the disaster foretold in the prophecy. Even the Tsaritsa's missions were put on the back burner.]

[Lynette: Our father loves this place deeply.]

[Jean: I have always been hostile toward the Fatui. They are scheming against our Anemo Archon's familiar and have caused us considerable trouble. But the Knave's actions deserve respect.]

[Kamisato Ayaka: The Fatui have been entrenched in our land for a long time and seem to be pursuing something unsavory as well. I also find it difficult to hold any goodwill toward them.]

[The Knave: Though I am not particularly fond of my colleagues either, we do this for the continent of Teyvat.]

[Jean: I hope that is true.]

Navia: "I never imagined that the Fatui Harbinger, the Knave, would reach out to me of her own accord. Thanks to her, the Spina di Rosula received powerful backup support from the Fatui, which is why we were able to complete the rescue and evacuation at this speed."

The Knave: "Mutual aid is one of the essential principles of healthy development. We all operate in Fontaine. A small effort."

Navia: "Without you, the casualty list would have grown much longer... Thank you. I will remember this kindness."

"My subordinates reported seeing Fatui soldiers rotating shifts to observe the water levels and record parameters. They also prepared large quantities of disaster relief supplies... I was truly surprised."

The Knave placed her hands before her chest: "I know of the prophecy and intend to prevent the disaster. Helping the Spina di Rosula was simply doing what was within my power. So please, there is no need for you to feel indebted."

[Tartaglia: Miss Knave is truly so elegant. As fellow diplomats, my own presence is far beneath hers.]

[The Knave: Childe, you are a man of self-awareness.]

[La Signora: Don't spend too long in this broadcast room. Don't forget the Tsaritsa's mission.]

[The Knave: Of course I remember, and I have been working toward it all this time.]

[Ningguang: What mission?]

[Jean: What mission?]

[Kamisato Ayaka: What mission?]

[La Signora: You will learn once everything is over.]
