Among the queens of mythology, not a single one was free of jealousy.
Foremost among them was Hera, Queen of Heaven and wife of Zeus. Her jealousy had become so synonymous with her that marriage itself eventually became one of her divine authorities, incorporated into her very godhood.
Although this authority had little practical use beyond punishing illicit lovers and granting various blessings to lawful wives, Hera preserved it nonetheless. That alone showed just how deeply she hated her unfaithful husband and his countless lovers.
With Hera as such a prominent example, Lilith was naturally no better.
Whether goddess or mortal, no woman could truly tolerate a man's infidelity—especially when that man was, in effect, her fiancé, and he openly favored another woman right before her eyes.
At that very moment, Lilith even had the impulse to summon her power and erase Selene from existence altogether.
But seeing Zhou Yi's attitude, she knew doing so would bring extremely serious consequences.
So despite the jealousy burning inside her, she suppressed it and instead confronted Zhou Yi.
Facing Lilith's questioning, Zhou Yi merely raised an eyebrow.
"Selene is my woman. That is beyond question. How I choose to treat her is my business. Not only are you not yet my Divine Queen, but even after our pantheon is established and our agreement fulfilled, you still won't have the right to interfere in my affairs."
The moment those words left his mouth, Lilith's anger flared.
What an overbearing attitude.
If things truly continued according to Zhou Yi's wishes, then what status would she, as the future Divine Queen, even have?
Had reason not restrained her, she might have rushed forward and settled the matter with him in the most direct way possible.
Although she managed to hold herself back, her expression still turned icy as she spoke in the coldest voice she could muster.
"So this is Your Majesty's promise? Has it become so worthless?"
"I have no intention of breaking my promise, Lilith."
Zhou Yi narrowed his eyes as he answered.
"What exists between us is merely a transaction. I want you under my banner, and what you want is the title of Divine Queen. Those are things I can absolutely provide."
"But nowhere in our agreement does it include love."
"Who I choose to love is my own business. I will never use my feelings as bargaining chips—not now, and not in the future."
"That is my principle."
"Not even becoming the King of Gods can make me abandon it."
"Do you understand?"
"And do you understand what your actions mean?"
Lilith laughed in anger.
Her smile was as cold and sharp as a blade.
"Tell me, have you ever heard of a Divine Queen who was only a title and not truly the wife of the King of Gods?"
"Or a Divine Queen who meant less to her own king than another woman?"
"Bright King, you are humiliating me."
"You are making me the laughingstock of every god."
"I'm sorry, but that's an entirely different matter."
Zhou Yi remained unmoved.
"If you expect me to obediently do things exactly as you wish, I'm afraid it won't be that simple."
"So you truly have no intention of reconsidering?"
Lilith's voice became increasingly solemn.
Her natural majesty had already begun to emerge.
But Zhou Yi wasn't intimidated in the slightest.
He simply shrugged.
"No need to reconsider, Lilith."
"Once I've made a decision, it won't change."
"Business is business."
"Feelings are feelings."
"I won't distort one for the sake of the other."
"Very well, Your Majesty, Bright King."
The seductive charm disappeared completely from Lilith's face, replaced by an even colder dignity.
"You'd better not regret this."
There was even a trace of threat in her tone.
"If you're truly as intelligent as I believe you are," Zhou Yi replied calmly, "then you'll know where your boundaries lie."
"You'll know what you absolutely must not do."
He had heard the threat in Lilith's words and responded immediately.
He believed she understood perfectly well.
The moment she crossed that line, everything between them would change completely.
And that was a consequence Lilith simply couldn't afford.
"Of course."
"I understand... perfectly."
Enunciating every word, Lilith's expression suddenly changed once more.
In an instant, she regained her alluring smile.
Like an ever-changing enchantress, her thoughts remained impossible to read.
Zhou Yi wasn't worried about her opposing him openly.
What truly concerned him was the possibility that she might begin plotting behind his back.
Because of that, he remained completely on guard, prepared for anything.
"Good."
"Since you say so, then I can rest easy."
"I'll leave the Lightbringers to you."
"How you choose to use them is the responsibility of the future Divine Queen."
"I have other matters to attend to."
"I'll leave everything here to you."
"What? Are you leaving already, Your Majesty?"
Lilith smiled sweetly, as though the previous unpleasantness had never happened.
"I still have matters to deal with in the mortal world."
"The Bright King is only one of my identities."
"It isn't all that I am."
"You understand what I mean?"
"Naturally."
"You're still playing that ancient game."
"Living simultaneously as a mortal and as a god, wearing different identities."
"I must admit, Your Majesty has quite refined tastes."
"Is it because there are beauties waiting for you among mortals?"
"Lilith."
"That has nothing to do with you."
Zhou Yi's voice immediately grew colder.
Lilith's own voice rose in response.
"No."
"Of course it concerns me."
"Your Majesty, at the very least you should let me know how many rivals I have."
"Besides, if we wish to establish a pantheon, how can we avoid walking among mortals?"
Against a woman as unpredictable and scheming as Lilith, Zhou Yi found himself with few options.
He simply tore open a rift in space, tossed out one final warning, and stepped inside with Selene.
"If you want to follow, then follow."
"But don't forget."
"I've always got my eyes on you."
Lilith immediately laughed.
Mist enveloped her body.
Hidden within it, she and the former Grand Elder stepped into the spatial rift after Zhou Yi.
One step later, they had returned to the Victor family's mansion.
By now, the entire estate had been placed under heavy guard by Amelia.
When Zhou Yi first disappeared, she had been deeply worried.
But after witnessing the colossal figure of the Bright King descend like a god, her worry had turned into astonishment...
...and then into even greater delight.
The employer with whom she shared such a unique relationship had become a true deity.
For someone like Amelia, whose greatest ambition was power, how could that not be exhilarating?
Even so, her excitement hadn't clouded her judgment.
She had already begun considering how she could demonstrate absolute loyalty to a god in exchange for even greater authority.
She couldn't think of any brilliant ideas.
In the end, she settled on a rather clumsy one.
She ordered every vampire under Victor's command to surround the place where Zhou Yi had vanished and guard it layer upon layer until he returned.
The method might have been simple, but it was more than sufficient to demonstrate her loyalty.
And so, the moment Zhou Yi emerged from the rift, he was greeted by a rather unusual scene.
Victor's vampires stood in orderly ranks.
The instant he appeared, they all knelt respectfully before him.
At the same time, Amelia gracefully lowered herself into a kneeling bow.
"Welcome back, Your Majesty, the Great Bright King."
The reverence and worship they displayed was even greater than before.
It immediately put Zhou Yi in a much better mood.
Just as he was about to speak, however, a voice behind him interrupted.
"So these are your followers in the mortal world, my king?"
"I must say... apart from their respect, they don't seem particularly impressive."
Those words instantly made Amelia uncomfortable.
She was just about to retort.
But the moment she looked up...
...she froze.
Walking out of the spatial rift was a woman of breathtaking beauty unlike anything Amelia had ever imagined.
Long black hair, dark as the night itself, framed a flawless face as radiant as the full moon.
One glance was enough to etch her appearance forever into anyone's memory.
Her tall, perfect figure was wrapped in an elegant black gown that made her appear both mysterious and irresistibly enchanting.
Most captivating of all was the aura surrounding her.
Nobility.
Authority.
Seduction.
All existed together in perfect harmony, giving her a charm capable of captivating the entire world.
With just that single glance, Amelia felt ashamed of her own appearance.
At the same time, overwhelming admiration and jealousy welled up inside her.
How could such a beautiful woman possibly exist?
Not only Amelia—even Zhou Yi himself was momentarily distracted upon seeing Lilith's human form.
She was simply too beautiful.
She truly deserved her legendary title as the seductive Queen of Witches.
Fortunately, beauty alone was not enough to conquer Zhou Yi.
He quickly recovered his composure and addressed her.
"When dealing with mortals, there's no need to conquer them through force."
"You only need to wield power wisely."
"Use the influence we already possess."
"With that, you can create whatever you desire."
"Amelia is one of my trusted confidants."
"There are many matters you can handle through her."
"So..."
Lilith glanced at Amelia before smiling.
"This woman is the servant you've chosen?"
"The future ruler of our mortal religion?"
"Your representative in the human world?"
"I can accept that."
"At the very least, I like the look in her eyes."
Amelia was still stunned from hearing Zhou Yi address the woman as Lilith.
Now she heard something even more unbelievable.
Suppressing the overwhelming joy inside her, she immediately knelt before both Zhou Yi and Lilith.
"We will not disappoint you, Your Majesties."
"No matter what you require..."
"I will do everything within my power to fulfill your wishes."
Her words immediately made Lilith laugh aloud.
Looking at Amelia, she found something she hadn't felt for thousands of years—
The intoxicating pleasure of holding absolute power over life and death within her ancient temple.
"My king."
"Leave the rest to me."
"With the influence my followers have built over the past six hundred years, combined with Your Majesty's divine glory..."
"I believe our goal will soon become reality."
Hearing those words, Zhou Yi nodded.
He believed Lilith possessed that ability.
Just as he was about to say something...
...the phone in his pocket suddenly rang.
The caller ID displayed a name he absolutely could not ignore.
Zhou Lan.
His mother.
"Dear Mom, what can I do for you?"
He quietly suppressed the sound so that only Lilith and Selene could hear him address her that way.
The moment those words left his mouth...
Not only Selene—
Even Lilith's expression became rather strange.
The Bright King's mother?
What kind of existence would she be?
The two women couldn't help but let their imaginations run wild.
