The captain barely registered what was going on when he saw a crimson light flash from the corner of his eyes.
'What is that?!' he exclaimed in his mind.

A sharp scream escaped from one of the guard's throats. He held his neck, and his steps froze. Instantly, all the guards had their muscles tensed up, and fear gripped their hearts like a vice.

With wide eyes, they saw their friend fall to the ground with a wet, sickening thud, blood splattering to the ground.
"What happened?" one of them screamed, unsheathing his sword with shaking hands.

He barely took a fighting stance when a sharp whistling sound echoed in his ear.

That was his last thought before he fell to the ground, darkness swallowing him whole. Seeing this, the remaining guards trembled, their breathing ragged.
Fear gnawed at their hearts.
Their eyes shifted back and forth, searching for the attacker hiding in the empty street.
