Chapter 766 - Covenant Beneath the Abyss

Several days passed quietly within Aetherial Institute.

At least—

Quietly by Kel's standards.

For everyone else, the academy remained as lively as ever.

Students attended lectures.

Professors conducted research.

Guild members accepted commissions.

Rumors about the beautiful new Assistant Professor Evelyne continued spreading through every corner of the island.

Meanwhile, beneath the surface of those ordinary days, another matter was steadily progressing.

The Leviathan Potion.

The solution Kel had proposed.

The first step toward repaying an ancient debt.

...

Inside a secluded alchemy laboratory hidden beneath one of the academy's research towers.

Golden flames flickered beneath dozens of crystal cauldrons.

Ancient shelves stretched from floor to ceiling.

Thousands of books filled the room.

Rare herbs.

Monster cores.

Mana crystals.

Dragon blood.

Ancient seaweed.

Every ingredient possessed immense value.

The air itself carried the scent of alchemy.

At the center of the laboratory stood Evelyne.

Her dark assistant professor coat had been removed.

The sleeves of her white shirt were rolled above her elbows.

Long black hair was tied behind her head with a silver ribbon.

Her crimson eyes remained focused upon the bubbling potion before her.

Unlike her usual elegant appearance, she now resembled a scholar completely absorbed in her craft.

Across from her sat Kel.

He lazily flipped through an ancient alchemy book while occasionally offering suggestions.

The scene looked strangely peaceful.

"Increase the Frost Lotus concentration."

Kel spoke without looking up.

Evelyne frowned.

"It will destabilize the mixture."

"It would."

Kel turned a page.

"If this were a human potion."

Evelyne paused.

Then her eyes widened slightly.

Leviathans were not humans.

Their biological structure differed entirely.

After several moments of calculation, realization appeared.

"That..."

A smile formed on her face.

"...actually works."

Kel nodded.

"I know."

Evelyne narrowed her eyes.

"You say that far too often."

Kel smiled.

"Because I'm usually right."

"I dislike how true that statement is."

Hours turned into days.

Days turned into nearly a week.

Together they modified formulas.

Conducted experiments.

Discarded failures.

Created new versions.

Eventually—

Success.

A crystalline blue liquid rested inside several enchanted bottles.

The liquid glowed softly like moonlight reflected upon a calm ocean.

Powerful vitality flowed within it.

Evelyne stared at the finished product.

For a moment, neither spoke.

Then she exhaled slowly.

"We actually did it."

Kel closed his book.

"Mostly you did."

The former monster shook her head.

"No."

Her gaze landed on him.

"I would've never thought of this solution alone."

For several seconds she silently observed the glowing potion.

A strange emotion appeared in her eyes.

This potion wasn't a weapon.

Nor a curse.

Nor something created to bring suffering.

For perhaps the first time in centuries...

She had created something solely to protect life.

The realization left her strangely emotional.

Kel stood.

"Then let's finish this."

Evelyne nodded.

This time—

There would be no running from the past.

...

Later that afternoon.

The harbor district of Aetherial Island bustled with activity.

Ships moved across crystal-blue waters.

Merchants shouted.

Adventurers prepared supplies.

Seagulls flew overhead.

At the center of the harbor rested a magnificent vessel.

The flagship of Azura Horizon Guild.

Its hull had been constructed from enchanted sea oak.

Silver runes glowed along its sides.

Blue sails fluttered proudly in the ocean breeze.

The guild emblem was displayed upon the main mast.

A rising horizon above endless waves.

Several guild members stood on deck.

Some organized supplies.

Others prepared navigation equipment.

At the center stood two familiar figures.

Seraphine.

And Elena.

Seraphine's long azure hair danced in the sea breeze.

Her ocean-blue eyes sparkled beneath the sunlight.

As Guild Master, she carried herself with increasing confidence each day.

Beside her stood Elena.

The brown-haired vice guild master reviewed documents while directing guild members.

The pair had become surprisingly effective leaders.

As Kel stepped onto the vessel alongside Evelyne, both women immediately approached.

"Founder."

Seraphine smiled brightly.

"You're finally here."

Elena nodded.

"The preparations are complete."

Kel glanced around.

The guild had grown considerably.

Far beyond what he originally expected.

A faint sense of satisfaction appeared.

"Good work."

The simple praise immediately brightened Seraphine's expression.

Then her eyes moved toward the potion case carried by Evelyne.

"So that's it?"

Evelyne nodded.

"The compensation."

A brief silence followed.

Seraphine understood better than anyone what that meant.

After all...

She had witnessed the conflict between humanity and Leviathans firsthand.

Today might finally end it completely.

Soon the ship departed.

The coastline gradually disappeared behind them.

Hours passed.

The ocean deepened.

The atmosphere changed.

The waters became darker.

Older.

More mysterious.

This was no longer ordinary sea territory.

This was Leviathan territory.

Even experienced sailors avoided this region.

The guild members became increasingly nervous.

Then—

Kel suddenly stood.

Without warning.

He removed his academy coat.

Then his shirt.

Then his boots.

The entire deck froze.

"..."

"..."

"..."

One guild member blinked.

Another blinked.

A third looked utterly confused.

"What is Founder doing?"

"I have no idea."

"Is this some kind of ritual?"

"Maybe."

Kel ignored everyone.

A moment later—

Splash!

He dove directly into the ocean.

The guild members stared.

Completely speechless.

Then Evelyne calmly walked toward the railing.

Without explanation—

She jumped after him.

Splash!

The confusion doubled.

"No seriously..."

One guild member pointed.

"What is happening?"

"I don't know!"

Before anyone could process the situation—

Seraphine stepped forward.

She glanced toward Elena.

"Vice Guild Master."

Elena sighed.

"I know."

"Monitor the surface."

"Be careful."

Seraphine smiled.

Then jumped.

Splash!

The moment her body entered the ocean—

A breathtaking transformation occurred.

Azure light erupted beneath the waves.

Human legs vanished.

Beautiful sapphire scales appeared.

A magnificent mermaid tail emerged.

Her long blue hair floated through the water like living silk.

The guild members stared in awe.

Even after witnessing it before...

The sight remained magical.

Then Seraphine disappeared beneath the waves.

...

Deep below.

The ocean became silent.

Kel moved through the water effortlessly.

Beside him swam Seraphine in her mermaid form.

Behind them followed Evelyne.

A translucent domain surrounded Kel and Evelyne.

The spherical barrier pushed water away, allowing both humans to breathe normally.

Ancient runes flowed across its surface.

The deeper they traveled—

The darker the surroundings became.

Massive shadows moved through the abyss.

Predators.

Sea monsters.

Creatures older than kingdoms.

Then—

A group of Leviathans appeared.

Gigantic.

Monstrous.

Each one possessed enough power to destroy cities.

The moment they noticed the intruders—

They charged.

The ocean trembled.

Predatory instincts exploded.

Their jaws opened.

Then—

They saw Kel.

Everything changed.

Instantly.

The charging Leviathans froze.

Their enormous eyes widened.

Recognition appeared.

Then terror.

Pure terror.

The monsters abruptly turned around.

And fled.

As fast as possible.

One nearly crashed into another.

A second accidentally struck a coral mountain.

A third simply abandoned all dignity and ran.

Evelyne blinked.

Seraphine stared.

Kel sighed.

"They're still doing that?"

The answer was obvious.

Every Leviathan present had witnessed their king being defeated.

To them—

Kel was basically a walking natural disaster.

A catastrophe wearing human skin.

Eventually they reached the heart of Leviathan territory.

An enormous underwater valley stretched before them.

At its center rested the Leviathan King.

His colossal body resembled a living mountain.

Ancient.

Majestic.

Terrifying.

The king slowly opened his eyes.

His gaze immediately landed on Kel.

Then recognition appeared.

"Human."

The surrounding ocean trembled from his voice.

Kel stepped forward.

"I kept my promise."

The Leviathan King's eyes narrowed.

"The thief of younglings?"

"Dead."

Silence followed.

The king observed him carefully.

"Evidence."

Kel nodded.

Then pulled back part of his clothing.

A scar remained visible across his side.

The wound created during his battle against Evelyne's corrupted form.

He had deliberately left it unhealed.

The king examined it.

Ancient instincts immediately sensed the truth.

That scar had been created by a powerful battle.

A deadly battle.

Kel calmly spoke.

"I killed."

A brief pause followed.

"Or perhaps more accurately..."

His gaze shifted toward Evelyne.

"I caused that monster to cease existing."

Evelyne lowered her eyes.

The king silently understood.

After several moments—

He nodded.

The ocean currents relaxed.

The matter was settled.

Then Kel produced the potion case.

"I also brought compensation."

The king looked confused.

Kel handed the bottles forward.

"It cannot repay the lives your people lost."

"Nothing can."

"But it may help your future generations."

The Leviathan King examined the bottles.

Powerful vitality radiated from them.

His ancient eyes widened slightly.

Kel continued.

"It will help your young be born healthier."

"Stronger."

"With higher survival rates."

For the first time—

Genuine surprise appeared on the king's face.

The surrounding Leviathans became excited.

Hope spread through the abyss.

The king looked toward Evelyne.

Then toward Kel.

Finally—

He lowered his massive head.

A gesture of respect.

"The debt is acknowledged."

Silence filled the ocean.

Then Kel smiled.

"Good."

"But I have another proposal."

The king waited.

Kel pointed upward.

"Azura Horizon Guild."

"They protect the sea."

"They understand the ocean."

"I want cooperation."

The king remained silent.

Then suddenly laughed.

The sound echoed across the abyss.

"You defeated me."

The ancient monarch's eyes shone.

"You could simply command."

Kel shook his head.

"That's not cooperation."

The king seemed pleased by that answer.

After a long moment—

He spoke.

"I accept."

The surrounding ocean erupted with excitement.

The king continued.

"From this day forward..."

"I remain your mount, master."

Seraphine blinked.

Evelyne blinked.

Even Kel looked mildly surprised.

The king lowered his head further.

"And every Leviathan beneath my command shall honor your orders."

The alliance was formed.

An alliance that would reshape the seas.

Soon after, bonds were established.

Guild members would receive Leviathan companions.

Transport.

Partners.

Friends.

Protectors of the sea.

A future nobody had imagined.

And thus—

The covenant beneath the abyss was born.

...

When everything was finally settled, the trio returned toward the surface.

Sunlight pierced the ocean above.

The guild vessel awaited.

As they emerged—

Splash!

Splash!

Splash!

Guild members rushed forward.

Seraphine climbed aboard.

Azure light surrounded her.

Her mermaid tail transformed back into elegant human legs.

Moments later she stood upon the deck once more.

Water droplets slid from her hair like scattered sapphires.

Nearby, guild members stared in amazement.

Behind her, enormous Leviathans surfaced peacefully around the ship.

No hostility.

No aggression.

Only curiosity.

The guild members were speechless.

Evelyne smiled faintly.

Kel simply looked toward the horizon.

The sea breeze carried the scent of salt and freedom.

Another conflict had ended.

Another future had begun.

And somewhere beyond the endless waves...

Destiny quietly continued moving forward.
