The piercing, high-pitched scream of the alarm system continued to tear through the subterranean stone corridors, a physical vibration that rattled deep inside my chest, but within the small confines of the cell itself, the silence was absolute. It was a suffocating kind of quiet, the heavy, stagnant stillness that always follows a flawlessly executed disaster.
