Chapter 141 - Chapter 141 - Blood and Magic on the Battlefield

"Attack!!!"

"The last one there is gonna suck the rookie's dick!!!"

"HAHAHAHA!!!"

The four armies collided once again that day; blood, flesh, and pieces of bodies flew through the sky in a tragic and bloody scene. The men's eyes were red, full of madness. They say a soldier is not a human but an animal, and that phrase held some truth.

Not far away, Rhaegar looked at Cadmus beside him and asked in a confused tone, "It doesn't seem like the mages are entering the battlefield."

"It seems Tywin and Jon don't want the mages entering the battlefield," Cadmus said with a pensive look. Honestly, the only reason he had been solemn before was because two grandmasters plus an apostle was a formation that even he had to be extremely cautious about.

He might be strong, but he only had two hands. Not to mention Melisandre—anyone who can become a Grandmaster in magic is a powerful genius. If the three of them joined forces to fight him, things would truly get complicated.

Cadmus did not fear losing; he feared not being able to protect Rhaegar if chaos truly broke out.

"At least they know that men should fight men," Rhaegar said with a relieved smile. If possible, he also didn't want to put Cadmus in the war. Although the soldiers were enemies, they were still his people, and knowing the future and the Long Night, he didn't want to kill so many people.

"Are you calling me a monster?" Cadmus asked, rolling his eyes.

"No, but I also can't say you're human; humans are weak," Rhaegar replied with a smile.

Cadmus wanted to say something to counter the king's words, but thinking from Rhaegar's point of view, aside from his appearance, he truly didn't resemble humans in terms of power. It was no secret that the surrounding nobles feared Cadmus as if they were looking at a living god.

"It seems they've arrived," Cadmus said, observing the oval portal opening not far from him. Melisandre emerged from the portal, and behind her, an old man and a beautiful woman accompanied the Red Witch.

"Melisandre, so you managed to get two little puppies," Cadmus said, looking at Gerhart and Tissaia with a touch of curiosity.

Tissaia frowned at being called a puppy, but Gerhart remained indifferent, as if Cadmus weren't talking about him.

"They will help in the Long Night," Melisandre said with an enigmatic smile on her face and a deep gaze. Her ruby-red eyes stared at Cadmus and then at Rhaegar with a bright look.

"Your Grace," Melisandre greeted Rhaegar, bowing slightly forward.

Looking at the source of his anger, Rhaegar couldn't help but let out a grunt, but as a polite king, he nodded and greeted the woman with an indifferent look. "Lady Melisandre."

Perhaps noticing the king's anger, Melisandre maintained a calm look and said nothing. She looked at Cadmus and spoke. "My subordinates will not enter the battlefield; we do not want many casualties in the war."

Cadmus nodded and then looked at Gerhart and Tissaia. "I'll be direct: Ciri is now my student. Any hostile movement toward her must be immediately ceased, or I won't mind visiting Aretuza or Ban Ard on a very unfriendly visit. Furthermore, Yennefer and Triss are now under my protection and will no longer be attacked."

"And this is not a request; it is an order," Cadmus said in a calm tone, but anyone could notice the coldness in his gaze.

Arrogant.

That was the first thought Gerhart and Tissaia had about Cadmus. However, considering Cadmus's power, it was quite normal in their eyes for the Court Mage to be so arrogant. They had to be thankful he was not bloodthirsty or power-hungry.

"Ciri is a danger, Excellency," Gerhart said in a solemn tone. "The girl is too unstable. If something similar to what happened to Old Valyria happens in Westeros, it will mean the death of millions of people."

Cadmus rolled his eyes and didn't believe a word of it. Worried about the life of an entire continent? He preferred to believe that Gerhart wanted to kill Ciri to prevent her from growing up and seeking revenge in the future.

To believe that a mage is good is to ask to test human nature. And believe me, never test human nature. You'd be surprised because demons consider themselves kind compared to the human race.

"Please, we know that's not what you want to do," Cadmus said with a touch of sarcasm. "Besides, I am not you, and I know how to control my student."

Cadmus was not worried that Ciri would one day explode. Not to mention that it would take a truly massive trauma to do something capable of destroying an entire peninsula, as was done in the Valyrian Peninsula.

Gerhart looked at Cadmus and knew he could never hunt Ciri again, or he would truly have to face an apostle at the height of his youth and strength.

"Your Excellency is not going to speak about Stregobor?" Gerhart asked in a calm tone. He still wanted to know the fate of the Grandmaster of Ban Ard.

"After a long torture, I managed to extract the location of Ban Ard. Furthermore, he is already dead," Cadmus said, his voice indifferent and cold. The memory that Stregobor actually dared to try and plot against Daenerys still made him angry.

Gerhart's heart rate spiked upon hearing those words. He narrowed his eyes, and his body tensed. "Your Excellency was not satisfied with killing a Grandmaster and thirty more mages from Ban Ard?"

"Don't pretend to be naive, Gerhart," Cadmus said in a cold tone. "You and I know that Ban Ard has to seek revenge to recover its reputation, or you won't have much prestige to recruit new apprentices to enrich the magic academy."

Gerhart was left speechless by Cadmus's logic. He shook his head and spoke in a calm tone. "Your Grace may have misunderstood something. I only need to fight you and then lose; no one will blame me for losing to an apostle. There is no need to fight to the death. In the end, the continuity of the academy is superior to any of its members."

"Furthermore, Stregobor's actions were entirely his own decision, and Ban Ard was not involved in it. As for the thirty mages, they were hired by Stregobor and knew the danger of such a mission. Ban Ard is just an academy, not a kingdom," Gerhart added in a helpless tone.

He wanted the cohesion that Cadmus thought Ban Ard had, but a magic academy was still an academy. In the end, the mages trained there will go to all corners of the continent and often don't even return to the academy.

Cadmus looked at Gerhart and frowned, trying to find any lie in the words of the Rector of Ban Ard, but there was no hint of a lie in his words or actions. Honestly, he liked those words, as he detested trouble, but since Ban Ard would no longer try to attack Daenerys, he felt he could set aside his resentment.

After thinking for a moment, Cadmus spoke in a calm tone. "Let's make an Unbreakable Vow, an agreement that cannot be broken, and the witness will be magic itself."

Although he had never heard of such a spell, as a mage, Gerhart immediately understood the effect of the Unbreakable Vow. He looked at Cadmus with a touch of growing curiosity in his gaze. Could it be that this apostle possessed the legacy of another magical world?

Seeing the two making peace and even concluding an agreement, Melisandre showed a satisfied expression. She didn't want Gerhart to die at Cadmus's hands; the Rector of Ban Ard was an excellent ally for the Long Night.

Tissaia was surprised; she thought things would be more tense, but Cadmus was surprisingly calmer and more pragmatic than expected. However, this eased her concerns a bit. Looking at the handsome mage before her, she had to admit: a powerful and calm man was extremely charming.

Seeing Tissaia's gaze, Cadmus whispered to Rhaegar, "The fate of a handsome man is to be admired wherever he is. What a sad fate."

Rhaegar rolled his eyes and wanted to punch that smug face.
