Two weeks ago, the police had officially suspended all investigations into Simo Isota.
Every piece of evidence presented against him had been dismissed as either "unclear in connection" or "deliberately planted." The allegations had evaporated overnight, and Simo had walked away a free man.
Since then, however, two journalists employed by Kosonen Media had been found beaten to death in separate alleys across the city. Another had vanished without a trace.
The police had made little progress, but Charles did not need an official report to connect the dots.
'Petty revenge.'
That was exactly the sort of thing Simo would do.
The murders weren't meant to accomplish anything substantial. They were a warning. A message directed at every reporter, editor, and journalist working under the Kosonen banner.
'Look what happens when you come after me.'
