Karl Hanski had first stepped onto the KE campus at eighteen carrying two things: a dream and a voice unlike anything anyone had ever heard before.
Throughout his teenage years, he had trained obsessively, pushing his vocal range day and night until he could command notes that seemed impossible for a single person to reach. Combined with his towering height, athletic build, and angelic baby face that somehow looked flawless from every camera angle, he appeared destined for stardom from the moment people laid eyes on him.
There was only one problem.
Karl could sing other people's songs brilliantly.
He couldn't write his own.
Every song he brought to his songwriting instructors came back covered in criticism. His lyrics were too strange. His word choices were too abrasive. His rhymes were too unconventional. Again and again, they advised him to leave songwriting to professional producers and focus on singing instead.
