Chapter 552: Fearless Sinestro
The Special Nature of Parallax
The universe holds seven emotional spectrums: Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo, and Violet, corresponding to seven emotional powers: Rage, Greed, Fear, Willpower, Compassion, Hope, and Love.
These seven powers are on the same level, with no obvious superior or inferior strength. However, due to the unique nature of the power of Fear, its Lantern Entity, Parallax, is an extremely special being.
Parallax possesses a strong independent will, full of desire for destruction and corruption. Its greatest pleasure is spreading fear, devouring fear, drawing energy from it, and constantly strengthening itself.
In a sense, it has no upper limit. Provided with enough sentient life forms, it can grow strong enough to destroy the entire universe.
Oa has been enveloped by a yellow light circle, and all creatures have entered a state of fear. Sinestro draws power from this, growing stronger with every absorbed dose.
Parallax also manifested its true form, heavily gulping down the yellow particles in the air.
The power of both grew stronger and the fear they spread became more terrifying. Fear fuels power, and power amplifies fear—this is the most troubling aspect of Parallax.
It acts like a source of contagion; once one person is infected, the entire race can be doomed. Parallax consumed thousands of civilized star systems in the past using this very ability.
The Guardians Intervene
Over a dozen Green Lantern warriors gathered near the prison.
"Is that really Corps Leader Sinestro?"
"He was locked up in the prison. How could he get mixed up with Parallax?"
"Was it voluntary? Or was he possessed?"
The group was hesitant. Sinestro held extremely high prestige within the Green Lantern Corps, and many warriors had been taught by him and viewed him as an idol.
A Green Lantern warrior from a soft-bodied race said solemnly,
"The Guardians' command is to capture Thaal. We cannot let him leave Oa."
Another warrior spoke with equal gravity. "We all know Parallax's capabilities. If we don't stop the Corps Leader, all the inhabitants of Oa will be drained into husks."
"We have no choice."
With this realization, everyone put aside their reluctance and launched an attack.
Over a dozen Green Lantern warriors conjured various weapons—some for long-range, some for close combat. Simultaneously, seven uniquely shaped green rings flew from space and hovered above the prison.
The rings, hundreds of meters across, connected front-to-back and stacked together. Large green markings appeared on their surfaces, making them look like a colossal energy cannon.
A point of light suddenly emerged in the center of the rings, instantly growing into a gigantic ball of energy, shining brighter than the sun.
The Green Lantern warriors all stopped, watching the sky in shock. That energy mass was at least three stories tall. If it blasted down, everyone would be wiped out.
"What is that?"
"The Guardians! They've engaged!"
The Green Lanterns who recognized the power of the rings shouted, "Quick! Get out of here! Everyone, evacuate immediately!"
Hal Jordan had never seen the rings' power, but seeing all his comrades running, he didn't hesitate and quickly followed them.
The appearance of the rings startled both Sinestro and Parallax.
"The Guardians! Squeak! Squeak!!!!"
"Kill them! Mangle them! Rip them to shreds! I want to eat them!"
Parallax shrieked madly, murderous malice flowing from its eyes. It had been sliced in half by the Guardians: one half imprisoned in the Central Power Battery and the other sealed on an unknown planet at the edge of the universe for billions of years.
Compared to the furious Parallax, Sinestro remained calm. This was Oa, the Green Lantern Corps' home base, possessing the most powerful technology in the universe. Even a fully-powered Parallax couldn't turn the tables here, much less now.
The most important thing was to escape. Only by leaving Oa was there a future.
Sinestro abandoned the rapidly gathering yellow particles, turned, and flew toward the sky.
The rings instantly adjusted their aim and attacked.
Boom!!!!!!!
The sky shuddered.
A deafening low-frequency sound wave exploded in the atmosphere. The entire planet trembled. Visible energy ripples spread through the air. A white pillar of light tore through space, carrying light and heat that seemed to destroy everything. Time seemed to freeze for a moment, and the next second...
BOOM!
Blinding light covered the heavens and the earth, accompanied by a piercing high-pitched sound. The senses of all creatures were stripped from their bodies. A sun-like tidal wave of energy appeared in the sky. The air hissed, and the overflow of energy transformed into countless blades of light, fiercely destroying everything around. The prison was reduced to rubble. The shockwave radiated outward, raising massive hurricanes that swept everyone away.
Hal gritted his teeth and manifested over a dozen barriers in front of him. Even so, he couldn't stop himself from flying backward, crashing through countless buildings, only stopping after traveling thousands of meters.
His internal organs were in agonizing pain, and his body felt like it was about to fall apart.
"Damn it!"
He cursed in frustration and forcefully pushed aside the debris.
The ground had vanished, replaced by an endless, deep crater. Everything inside the pit had been vaporized into molecular form.
"So... so powerful."
Hal swallowed. If that shot had hit Earth, it likely would have been penetrated.
A star-destroying weapon—it was too powerful!
He wondered how Thaal was—was he dead?
Thinking this, he immediately used his ring's scanning ability to search for his target, finally finding a barely perceptible yellow light at the edge of the blast zone.
Escape from Oa
Thaal Sinestro, both arms severed, knelt on the ground. His naked body was covered in large and small wounds, some areas already carbonized. The blast had nearly killed him.
Two Green Lantern warriors landed in front of him, their expressions complex.
"Stop, Thaal. You know Oa's defense mechanisms well. No one can break through."
Sinestro merely twitched his mouth, glanced at the sky, and flew toward the Central Power Battery in the distance without looking back. As he approached, the battery violently shook. Massive yellow energy surged from within, injecting into Sinestro's body like a tide.
This energy was what Parallax had painstakingly accumulated, its final trump card. Now, it became Sinestro's power.
The massive influx of energy gave him a rebirth. He not only regrew his arms and healed all his wounds, but his armor also evolved.
Aaaahhhh!!!!
Sinestro roared up at the sky. His body transformed into a yellow streak of light and flew into the distance. His speed was incredibly fast, far surpassing the Green Lantern warriors. When he reached one of the nodes that transmitted energy to the sky, he plunged into it without hesitation.
The green light energy surging out from inside Oa washed over his body. Every cell screamed in pain, little by little leaving his body, little by little vaporizing. This pain was beyond what any sentient being could endure, but Sinestro grit his teeth and bore it.
His body traveled with the light beam, ascending to the atmosphere and merging into the eggshell defense shield.
No defense system in the world is flawless. Oa's eggshell could defend against star-destroying attacks, making it virtually impossible to breach from the outside. But attacking from the inside was a different story.
The eggshell required constant energy, which was supplied by nodes scattered across the surface. As the former Corps Leader, Sinestro knew the secret of these nodes: if he could endure the intense pain and merge with the energy surging from a node into the eggshell, he could escape Oa.
This was the fastest and only way.
Fortunately, he succeeded. Under the astonished gaze of the Guardians, he burst through the eggshell and vanished into the depths of the universe.
