Haruto closed his eyes and focused on the final bits of memories that Unohana's reward had for him.
The memories were about her studying the effects of various newly discovered herbs and medicines on soul reapers. It took Haruto only about two hours to go through them all and once he was done he raised his head with his eyes gleaming sharply and his eyelids opened wide.
"What happened, Haruto?" Megumin asked with clear worry, even forgoing her usual questions about if the memories were related to explosions in any way.
Haruto stayed silent for a little while before his hand raised and settled over his chest with the slightest of touches as if he were afraid pushing too hard would harm whatever was inside.
"I can feel it…" Haruto whispered so low that only Unohana, who was expecting the reaction, caught his words.
It took Haruto a little more time to calm down until he finally spoke up for everyone to hear, "I think I can separate my soul from my body now… it might be a little dangerous but I trust Unohana's knowledge to experiment with this… I don't know if my connection to you guys will remain during this time, so if you can't see or hear through my senses anymore, just hold on, I'll be back."
Megumin's tiny fist clenched around her staff as she looked at Haruto with a slightly unsure gaze. "Are you sure you should be experimenting with your soul like this Haruto?"
Haruto looked at her and smiled but before he could respond Unohana spoke up, "Trust my experience Megumin-chan… separating the soul from the body is not a hard thing to do for a soul reaper with my level of skill and knowledge, all it requires is for the soul core to slip out of its container, that's all, it won't damage the body or the soul in anyway."
Megumin gulped softly at this but Grindelwald then interrupted and told her something truly scary, "It isn't like Haruto's going to split his soul to make himself immortal by committing an unspeakable act of violence…"
"Split his soul!!!???"
"Calm down Megumin, Grindelwald's only making you afraid… in fact I'm pretty sure he didn't perform such a ritual in his lifetime, he only knows of it." Haruto easily soothed the afraid chuni girl and quickly departed from the Template Inventory Space.
Once Haruto returned to his bed his eyes opened for a second before closing shut as he focused entirely on his soul core.
A fluffy ball sat in his chest, hovering without support but firmly fixed in place. Haruto's aim was to dislodge this ball from his chest so that he could become a disembodied being.
'Unohana could interact with her soul core using her reiryoku or spiritual energy. Is it spiritual energy for me too in the Naruto world?'
Haruto carefully dragged a bit of spiritual energy from inside his mind and brought it down to his chest, making it touch the firmly placed ball inside his chest.
'It works!'
Haruto could feel the spiritual energy inside his body that he'd just dragged towards his soul core, dislodging it bit by bit by flowing into the spaces it occupied like air filling an empty container.
'Heave ho!'
'Heave ho!'
'...'
With a few heaves of spiritual energy Haruto's soul core was firmly dislodged from its position, yet Haruto hadn't become a disembodied being just yet.
A firmer feeling of chains gripped Haruto's soul core and kept it firmly tied inside the boundaries of his body.
'I'm stuck?'
'What's holding me back?'
Haruto traced back the chains one by one and came to a conclusion almost immediately.
'It's the chakra in my body…'
'Should I get rid of all the charka in my body to free myself?'
'...but why does freeing the soul require removing the chakra from my body?'
'In Unohana's memories she never had to collect her reiryoku from her artificial body when she was separating her soul core from it… the reiryoku was automatically pumped into her soul core and separated from her artificial body.'
'...hmm… is it because of the physical energy mixed in with the spiritual energy that forms chakra?'
'Is that physical energy holding me back from converting it all into energy that I can take into my soul core and separate from my body?'
'Can I not just store all the chakra into my soul core?'
Haruto tried it for a second, gathering all the chakra in his body and forcing it into his soul core but he was met with a barrier that made it futile to try and cross it. It was as if his soul core was intelligent and was able to distinguish that he was trying to take physical energy from the body with it.
'...alright… I'll get rid of the chakra in my body for now…'
Haruto quickly expunged all the chakra from his chakra circulation system and finally dislodged his soul core from its position once again.
And this time-
'It worked!'
Haruto felt himself free from his body!
He quickly opened his eyes and looked over at himself and found that he was floating in mid air! There was a saintly white glow about what he expected to be his soul but otherwise his soul was exactly like his body, right down to his clothes.
Haruto flailed around for a few seconds before he righted himself in the air and looked around with glee.
His own body was still lying on the bed and looked peacefully at rest while he floated about with freedom and joy.
'Hello! Can you guys hear me!?' Haruto asked his mostly ever present partners inside his Template Inventory Space.
'Yes! Yes we can still hear and see just fine Haruto!!' Megumin quickly responded with excitement.
'Neat!!! Now I only need to test if other people can see me in this form…' Haruto thought with glee before taking charge of his floating state and moving directly towards the wall of his house.
Haruto's face poked outside and he looked around with suspicion for a few seconds.
He didn't speak or draw attention to himself but none of the passers by noticed him at all!
Of course, Haruto wasn't doing this by taking a whole lot of risk of being discovered in such a state! He had a precedent for it! And that was Dan Kato's spiritualization state! Even Madara with his rinnegan could not discover Dan Kato until he began speaking directly to someone!
Haruto looked on at the passing crowd of people underneath on the street in front of his house before floating over to the middle of the street and standing above everyone.
It was dark so his glowing soul produced some light that lit up the place well, yet no one reacted in any way shape or form.
'This is sick!!!'
'This is the ultimate espionage tool!!!'
'And without Unohana's Mission Reward I would've never been able to learn this jutsu!'
'Does this count as creating a new jutsu Unohana-san?' Haruto asked Unohana if this jutsu could be counted towards her mission so that he could earn the Bakudo number four reward right away.
Unfortunately for him-
'No… the mission says that you have to create an offence or defence jutsu Haruto-kun… this, while powerful in its own right, is more of a recon jutsu no?' Unohana said softly.
Haruto frowned but nodded in the end.
'Fine, I get it…'
'But what do I do now?'
'Do I just spy on people? Can I spy on Danzo to see what he's planning?'
'Hmm… I guess I'll start with Danzo then…'
'But will the Hokage tower have seals to deal with the Spiritualization Technique?'
'Hopefully not… I'll run away if it triggers anything… not like they can see me even if I trigger some seal…'
'Alright then!! Onwards to new discoveries!!'
