Chapter 25 - SKILL TEST(1)

Ethan: "Two skills, of course. Talk about special treatment. Now, let's head back to the hotel and so we can figure the rest out before we get jumped again."

Elin: "We should head to the police station."

Ethan: "What, Why? We just got jumped."

Elin: "That's exactly the reason. Goblins usually move in small groups. This means the others are spread out."

Ethan: "You sure about that?"

A confident nod followed.

Ethan: (Elin might be right, but..) His eyes wandered into the dark streets. The darkness looked thick enough to hide an entire army. (Knowing my luck we will probably get jumped by the rest of the goblins.)

He casually pointed behind them.

Dylan: "How about we rest for now."

A two storey house stood nearby.

Nothing fancy, just an ordinary suburban home. The sort of place people would pass by without a second thought.

Ethan: (Huh?)

Dylan: "The night is still early. Rather than risking another fight. We should rest in one of the houses, till Ethan feels better."

Ethan: "Ya. That's honestly better."

Elin: "Sounds good."

Dylan placed his bat onto Ethan and croucheded down, tightening his muscles.

Then–

Within a single breath his body shot forward swiftly.

Utilising the momentum, he swiftly scaled the gate and dropped onto the other side.

*Click*

The gate swung open.

Standing behind was Dylan. One hand extended and a slight bow.

Dylan: (Welcome.)

The front door came next.

He twisted the handle. Nothing.

Again. Nothing.

Ethan: (Figured.)

He stepped up and offered the bat.

Ethan: "Break it open."

Dylan accepted his weapon firmly, with a small grin.

Dylan: "Strike."

The wood splintered into fragments resulting in a fairly medium sized hole, enough for a hand.

Carefully reaching through the hole, Dylan unlocked the door from inside.

The three stepped inside, removing their shoes by the entrance. Some habits refused to die.

The lights sparked on with a flick of a switch.

Dylan: "You should relax. I am gonna check upstairs."

Ethan: "K."

Each step drew a faint creek from the old staircase.

Soon only Ethan and Elin remained downstairs.

Ethan: (Jeezzz. It's not like I'm in any danger.)

Ethan: "Come on. I'll teach you how the system works."

Elin: "Ok."

The two moved into the living room.

A couch sat right in front of the T.V. Many shelves and cabinets, with pictures of the family filled the room.

He dropped onto the couch. The soft cushions engulfing him nearly convinced him to sleep.

Ethan: "You are familiar with the video game system, right?"

Elin: "Ya. At this point, who isn't?"

Ethan: "You can tap the skill like a touch screen to view information. If you want it gone just say close, and open for vice versa."

Elin: "Ok.... Anything else?"

Ethan: "Nope, that's it."

Elin: "Really?"

Ethan: "You're free to test it yourself."

Elin looked over to her system.

[ Name: Elin

Elin: "Close."

The screen disappeard.

Elin: "Open."

The screen reappeared.

Elin: (That works.)

Her finger clicked on the 'Offering' skill.

[ Offering:

The user will be graced with boons based on their sacrifice. ]

Elin: "It says the offering skill will give me rewards based on my sacrifice?"

Ethan: "That, sounds like something a cult would have."

Elin: "What do you think the skill does?"

Ethan: "It seems like some sort of a buffing skill to me. The buff depending on the item sacrificed."

His gaze traveled across the room and landed on a vase.

Ethan: "Try it on that."

Elin wrapped her hand around the vase

Elin: "Offering."

Nothing happened. This is starting to become a common pattern.

Ethan: (Does it only work on otherworldly items or is there some specific conditions to this skill? These systems discriptions are more of a puzzle than actual discription.)

Ethan scoured the room and ended up with a bunch of miscellaneous items. He arranged them neatly on the table.

Ethan: "Here, try your skill on all of these."

For the next 30 minutes everything from furniture to kitchen utensils were tested.

Elin plummeted onto the couch with a rock in her hand.

Elin: "Offering."

To the suprise absolutely no one, nothing happened.

Elin: "Nothing worked."

Elin: (This is now my least favourite word.)

Ethan: "Maybe you don't have enough divinity. I thought this would require an actual object to be sacrificed."

Elin: "Me too."

Ethan: "What about your other skill?"

Her finger landed on heal.

[ Heal:

The user can utilise divinity to restore a being. ]

Elin: "Nope, heal is not connected to offering."

Both of them let out a defeated sigh.

Dylan entered into the living room with a sleak dark blue Tshirt.

Dylan: "What, are you both doing?"

Ethan: "Trying to figure out what her skill does."

Dylan: "What's so difficult?"

Ethan: "It's complicated."

Dylan: "Let's figure that out after our little trip. Here."

He tossed the jacket right onto Ethan's face.

Ethan: "Do you think you can take on the goblins solo?"

Dylan: "Trust me."

Ethan quickly got up tucked himself into the jacket.

Ethan: "How much divinity do you have now?"

Elin: "It's still at 3."

Ethan let out a sigh in surender.

Ethan: (I guess divinity takes longer time to regenerate than mana.)
